  1. I got mine on eBay for under $15 and it's genuine and works great. I couldn't believe it when I saw it in the shops for 90 up to $130.
  2. Thank you for your kind reply wuffles. Nice to meet someone nice and understanding on here ;p I use the front attach harness too and it helps. If i walk them both on my own on a short leash, they are at my side but heavy haha
  3. If you're feeling emotions like that this is probably why you're having problems. Seperation anxiety is also usually caused by the owner due to mis-interpreted pack dynamics. I would probably reccomend you start learning and implenting Leadership before you start your training. He doesn't mind when I leave him. He minds when the older dog leaves him. He also doesn't care if I ignore him. But he barks at the older one when she ignores him. Don't worry, i am implementing leadership.
  4. I will do that. it will be a challenge as when I leave behind my older dog, she really makes me feel guilty. And when I leave behind the young one, he really carries on, screaming after the older dog. So, just another thing I have to work on!
  5. I'm training my two dogs not to pull on the lead. I train them separately in the street in short sessions each and they usually go well. My question is - while they are still learning this, can I take them for a walk where I actually want to get both dogs to where we are going such as the beach?? They pull all the way and then are only rewarded by getting where they want to go. So i try my training on them like I do at home but its with both dogs which is entirely different and more difficult. Plus by stiopping or turning the other direction each time they pull we will never get to the beach and i want to get there too! What's your advice? Do i just not take them for walks together until they have learnt lose leash walking properly? Do I take them in the car to the beach (would prefer not to) so that they aren't rewarded for pulling me all the way there?? Also, am I correct in only training them one at a time with this? Should I concentrate on the young one until he has got it (he does better than the older dog) and then work on the older dog until she gets it, then try it together? At my wits end with this one. Please be nice.
  6. I know you definately need public liability insurance. Then possibly Professional Indemnity insurance too. Which protects you when you offer advice so someone can't sue you when they use you're advice and aren't happy with the results. At least, that's how I understand it. No idea yet how much insurance will cost. Anyone?
  7. I also need info on this. I thought this would have gotten more replies. I am struggling to think of a business name. By the time I think of one, I'll be years down the track and ready to start haha
  8. Hi There! I live in Bundaberg and just went through a great puppy preschool. Good to see you want the best start fo ryour pup - she is gorgeous! I will PM you.
  9. Looking for someone who will be studying at the same time as me, the cert III in dog training & behaviour through NDTF. I am in Queensland and going to the QLD blocks so someone also doing that would be a bonus!
  10. I have never got into crate training. In your opinion, how would it be applied to this situation? I have always heard of crate training only being applied to toilet training.
  11. I kinda get the idea that my post sounds more serious than it actually is because I wasn't too concerned about it until I read all these replies. Now I wonder if it's worse than I thought?
  12. I train them separately and then together. We walk them together except when I am practicing heeling with them when I do it one at a time and then together. They are fine with all that. They are fine in the yard all day together and they play. It's only when she is "guarding" one of us or her toy (when she is playing with the toy with us) or when one of us gives treats. They eat their main meal next to each other with no problems, puppy sometimes even steals lola's food without a fight. She is really just possessive of us or anything she is doing around us. She's always had a thing like that with larger dogs but not so much with smaller dogs. There are no professional trainers in my area that do the kind of work you're talking about. I was hoping to become one myself one day. I've applied to do the NDTF course in October and it looks like I will have to work through this with them myself once I have learnt about their behaviour. *sighs* a little disheartened now.
  13. ahh rescue sites always make me want to adopt another dog or two or four... sophies-choice.com.au is the worst for me, or the adoptapet site for the rspca. They can arrange transport if you speak to them about it. She is gorgeous. Where I live we are only allowed 2 dogs so no more for me, so I shouldnt look anymore.....but i still do and I always find one to fall in love with and torture myself over!
  14. We have a two year old female cocker spaniel cross mini foxy named Lola. We recently got a male boder collie puppy and named him Chester. He is now four months old, we've had him for 2 months. They get on well most of the time, they play and wrestle and play tug o war. But Lola has some issues she just can't seem to get over. Its jealousy and she gets the sulks really bad. I try to give them each an even amount of attention and have never favoured the new pup. I try to give each of them their "special time" but every time Chester gets attention Lola gets the sulks for hours after. She gets so territorial, possessive and obsessive. For example, I'll be giving them both treats and she will leap at him snapping because she is jealous of him getting food. Or, I will be petting Lola and Chester will come up for some attention and she lunges at him to stay away from me. Then theres the spare room, where Lola will go in and sit under the chair where my husband or I usually sit, and she won't let chester step over the line at the doorway entrance. She will growl to ward him off and attack him if he comes too close. Similiar issues happen over their bed areas, poor pup ends up sleeping on the hard cold concrete because Lola won't let him anywhere near the bedding, even though their bed is huge. Its to the point that Chester is wary of her in every situation and I don't want him getting a complex over this. If he ever sticks up for himself they get into a pretty vicious looking fight, but no broken skin yet. Will Lola settle down with more time? Is there anything I can do to help the process? I feel bad for her being jealous but she needs to accept Chester so that I can love them both as much as I want to.
  15. No but it is on my -to-do list - didn't know they were gong to do it - I am definitely wanting to I have applied for the october course as august is already full. The qld blocks are at caloundra.
  16. New information: having trouble with their admin already. They seem to have communication problems internally. I have been told two completely different stories on the Qld blocks being available and now the latest is that it is booked out already for August so I will have to wait until October. And even though its booked out already for August, they still say they haven't finalised the details yet to be able to give me the info. I'm disappointed, I was so eager to start.
  17. Thanks for the that. I'm leaning towards not taking my dog. So would you say the course is fairly basic information then?
  18. I loved the course but the administration are completely ridiculous. They seem to finally (FINALLY) be getting their act together. I still haven't received my official certification because of constant miscommunication with the staff administrators. There has been about 5 administrators since I did my course, and some assessments I sent where not received. So whatever you mail, be sure to scan in, follow up on it Constantly or you're going to end up in my boat. Which is very frustrating. What did you love about the course?
  19. Did you already know it because you had a lot of experience and learning with dogs already? I have experience with my own dogs I've had over the years and I do a lot of reading but I still hope to gain a lot from this course, I am paying for it myself which is a lot of money so I don't want to be disappointed. Most of what I have heard about it on DOL is positive.
  20. Whoops! You sound like me. Hopefully we both aren't bothering the same person there because I think she is sick of the questions just from me alone. I can't help it though, I am excited. Had to sign up to DOL today so I had another outlet for it.
  21. This is the kind of thing that really annoys me to hear of, but all too common. People can't own puppies only and then get rid of them as soon as they grow up. I really hope you can talk her out of it.
  22. Hi again The August one is booked out in Melbourne and Sydney and will soon open for enrolment for QLD once they have the details finalised (hopefully tomorrow). The next course available after that is October.
