  1. thanks Jean26, i cant say enough for the the people at both vets, they are great pomquest here is a picture of him in one of his belly bands laeral i found his smiling picture  he does it quite a bit but i have never had a camera handy since, he certainly needs something done about those crooked little teeth and just having his chewy bone
  2. Moreton Vet at Redbank Plains, i see Gerry King but the other vet, Jo i think her name is, is the one who came in at 2am and helped save Raidy, so they do 24hr call alot of the GSDCQ members use him as well as he does the hip/elbow xrays, i took a friends dog to be surgically A.I'ed and he let me watch, was very successful, from memory i think she had 11 pups They give 20% off the total of the account no matter, even the entire after hours bill i got 20% off where as some normally only give it off consult and dont include medications etc where as with them what ever the total is you get 20% off He ended up having to go to the after hours emergancy at Underwood, they are also fantastic but no discount there i have a $2000 bill eww BigBen thats a bit gross Thanks Jed and persephone
  3. ;) thanks pomquest, its been a hard battle and the specialist even said today its a miricle he survived so he is a fighter, he is a very special little man to me and yes i cant wait until he gets back home running around with his wizzer out and still weeing on everything even though he has a belly band on
  4. ;) sure, i dont think he is a secret as alot of dog breeders and show people use him and drive from the other side of town to see him I am just lucky he is in my nearest vet its an extra bonus he is a good one
  5. Thankyou again everyone for the well wishes Its working because i just spoke to specialist, he said Radar has improved dramatically today and is even eating, there have been no seizures at all So if he continues going this good, he will be coming home tomorrow ;) They just want to keep him in tonight for observation just to be sure I also called into my local vet on the way home to fix up an extra $60 i owed after Sunday morning and walked out with them owing me $160, they hadnt applied my CCC 20% discount on last few visits i think thats the first time in my life a vet owes me money and not the other way around, i am going to frame that receipt
  6. thanks again everyone It wasnt as bad as i thought and they made out it to be, he is up and moving but still a bit wobbly, they are still not 100% sure if he has brain damage or its just the huge amount of drugs he has had and he has not had a seizure since yesterday They are stopping all drugs and will monitor him today, they are also doing blood tests just to check his liver etc just to see what damage may have been done from poison or drugs. I got to see him, it was awful, its like he didn’t really know me, he didn’t want to sit with me kept barking and crying yet when nurse came and I gave him back he stopped but just kept watching me and wouldn’t let me out of his sight even as she was walking away with him, the specialist said it could be all the drugs he has had and he should improve dramatically by tonight. I think i must of cried all the way home though They are happy with him as he said early this morning he wasnt able to get up or anything yet already he is able to get up and wander around his little cage
  7. I don’t have any good news, I was so wishing this morning he would of made a big improvement overnight but doesn’t look like it I knew this morning best case scenario was they would send him home because he was better, or even that he would be well enough to be transferred to my vet for follow up treatment Worse case is he has to stay and they transfer him to be seen by there specialists as he has not improved, they didn’t tell me much when I rang but apparently he is in no condition to be transferred and has to stay and be seen by there specialists, I have an appointment at 8am to talk to them all they wouldn’t give me an update on the phone they just said the vets and specialist will speak to me when I come in I am really trying to stay strong and positive for him but its getting so hard So I will have more news after 8, hopefully I will be able to see him as well
  8. thankyou it means alot to have so much support and people to lean on especially when i dont have family and friends close by so thanks I just rang the vets, no real change, they said he is stable but he said he is still neurological, so he must still be paddling with his feet, they dont think his symptoms now are from the toad, but they are still trying to reduce his drugs, he is now not responding to the vets talking to him but it is night and he is a sleepy head
  9. thanks laeral, he is a special boy and certainly has a lot of people giving him well wishes from all around
  10. thanks everyone for your thoughts Its certainly heartbreaking when one of them get sick The vet just called, she said he is more responsive and opens his eyes when she talks to him She is stopping the antiseizure medication and will monitor how he goes, she said its hard to tell if he starts paddling again if is from coming of the drugs or if he is having a fit so unless it’s a bad fit she is going to let him come off them she said she is more optimistic tonight that he is going to pull through so i will call them at 6am for another update
  11. thanks i just spoke to the vets and no change at the moment
  12. thanks everyone, i am not sure how i would cope without him as he is mummys little boy hopefully when they reduce the drugs to wake him tonight he is ok and no more seizures
  13. My poor little man got a cane toad last night, i got to him straight away and washed his mouth out and washed the poison from his face but he still collapsed and had a seizure. I rushed him to my local vet where he had more seizures and they sedated him and gave him drugs to stop him having fits, then they sent me home with him, they had put an IV line in and gave me needles to give him if he had any more seizures but an hour later he was having problems breathing so i rushed him to the emergancy clinic where he is just hanging on as every time they reduce the seizure medication he starts fitting again, he is on oxygen for his breathing as well, they also have him on drugs to reduce any swelling he may have in his brain. They are going to try again tonight and slowly wake him to see what he does as they are afraid he may now have permanent brain damage from the seizures last night Little dogs are so precious, i remember when my Shepherds got a toad i would just wash there mouth out with a hose and they were fine, where as poor little Radar might not make it
  14. My Malamute gets it all the time, mainly in winter though Pink Nose
  15. One of my bitches has a small one and after 2 litters, it has cause no problem. My vets advised that it would be fine to leave and not cause a problem, they were right!! thanks, thats good to hear, will get the vet to look at it before i breed her
  16. Would there be any issues with the dog having pups if they have a hernia, just curious as my 7 month old Min Pin has one.
  17. A friends chihuahua was bitten. He ended up with symptoms like a stoke and couldnt walk very well and he couldnt move his neck so he looked like he had a stiff neck, so he had to be carried everywhere for awhile. It took along time but he made a full recovery
  18. i personally wouldnt as it has crushed bone and if you look through it you will see there are some bigger bits as well
  19. bloat is something that normally your large, deep chested breeds get but yes several of the things you are told to avoid to minimise chances of getting bloat are not feeding before or after excercise to leave it an hour or so, soak dry food before feeding, feeding twice a day not one big meal, dont let them drink heaps of water after excercise amongst other things. I had a dog get bloat, he had not been excercised and was not fed dry food at all, he was not stressed and he had not eaten that night but they had to pump out 2 litres of water from his stomach I think if they are going to get it they will, i also beleive it can be a genetic thing as well as i know a few in his lines had died of bloat. I personally dont think you are doing anything wrong as i said its normally your big dogs that get it, good luck with your friends dogs recovery and tell your friend that if they have had bloat once there is a chance they can get it again so another thing i was told was to give my fella a charcoal tablet with his meals, not sure if it works or not
  20. if he is that big already change him i would change to a good quality adult food, will slow the growing down
  21. i feed it to all 4 of my dogs with great results
  22. Thanks for that info. I had no idea that there were different strains. My 'non infected' dog needs to have a tumour removed and the vet doesn't want to operate until she gets KC like my other one!! We didn't bother seperating them as they had been together for days after the symptoms appeared so we didnt see the point. (They were kenneled) It's frustrating as I want the op done ASAP and nearly two weeks later she has NO symptoms of KC at all. she may not get it, out of my 4 dogs only 2 of them caught it so she might be lucky they were over it in about 4 days, i just gave them infant cough mixture as it was the 2 little dogs that caught it
  23. mine normally get fish oil, ester c, zinc and apple cider vineger
