It sounds to me like a description of cabriole legs. The shoulder/elbow part doesn't make sense but perhaps the OP means the legs bow out at the elbows and come back in at the wrist.

Aha! thank you. This had me really puzzled.

Looking For A Vet In Melbourne For My Chihuahua
cavNrott replied to Kezpipa's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would never withold water from a dog who is either vomiting or has diarrhoea. The dog can dehydrate very quickly. Did you tell the vet that you had witheld water from the dog? I don't feed canned food so can't help you out there, I feed BARF and an occasional meal of Eagle Pack dry. I'm surprised the vets didn't recommend a good quality food for your dog, though I must say in my experience vets know very little about nutrition. The vet who advised you to feed chicken and rice was right on the money though. A good quality dry food can be softened with a broth and your dog will probably like it. If you mention the general area you live in someone will recommend a vet in that area. -
Lab There's a food called Lab????

I wouldn't be using methylated spirits unless a vet has looked in the ears to make sure there are no raw areas. I suspect methylated spirits would sting a lot. If you cause the dogs ears to sting you'll have a lifetime problem trying to attend to his ears. I would go the way of Colloidal Silver. Maybe phone and ask the vet.

When you say she hasn't toileted, do you mean she hasn't peed or pooped? If this is still the case I would be taking her to the vet ASAP. It's always wise to take a new puppy for a vet check within the first couple of days.

What do the xrays show as being wrong with the knee. Patella? Ligament? My large breed has had both knees done with the TWLO surgery at $5000 each. She was confined strictly to a crate for 6 weeks with only onlead toilet breaks. After the 6 weeks she was allowed a 5 minute leash walk per day. This increased by 5 minutes per walk per week. Her crate confinement was for 12 weeks all up. She was an excellent patient, much to my surprise because she is a hyperactive dog. With you working it will be difficult unless you can have someone come in during the day a couple of times to take the dog out to toilet.

Which Halters/collars Are Best?
cavNrott replied to dee lee's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I bought two of them, a small and a medium and they both have the sherpa sleeve around the loops that go under the legs. By the time the Sporn harnesses arrived I had already trained the dog to walk nicely without pulling so I've never used either of the harnesses. Still sitting in the boxes. I also bought a 'Sensible' walking harness. Had it sent over from the USA and I have never used that either. I did put it on the dog to see if it works ...it does amazingly! However again the dog was trained to walk properly by the time the harness arrived here so I never used it apart from the dress rehearsal. I will put them in buy, sell and swap if I ever get my act together and rescue can have the proceeds. Had I known these products were going to take so long to arrive I wouldn't have ordered them...darn dog was trained by then. -

The Sporn harness has Sherpa covering around the parts that go under the legs so it can't chafe. -

The Sporn harness you can use without being trained in its use. With the Halti you need a trainer to show you how to use it properly. A Halti is for close walking on a loose lead. -

If your animals have fleas then they probably also have tapeworm. Revolution doesn't do intestinal worms only fleas and heartworm. You will need to use an all wormer as well for all the dogs. -

If people keep buying dogs from BYB's then they will keep breeding them. Why do you buy from them? A couple of you have been on this forum long before you bought your dogs so you do know to buy only from a registered breeder yet you still go to byb's. I don't get it. There is no point in complaining about a puppy being too young, not wormed, not vaccinated after you have bought it knowing full well you are buying from a byb.

It sounds like this new vet of yours needs to do a few sessions in the euthansia room at one of the pounds. Lets see what he thinks of 'natural' then. I would be finding another vet.
-
Thanks Rappie. Before Sentinel became 'Spectrum' I used to give Drontal every few months and the dogs always vomited. They've never vomited since they've been on Sentinel Spectrum though.
-
I use Sentinel Spectrum without a problem. I think she said she was using Interceptor. Would that have the same effect?

Thinking of you Peibe and I hope Jewel recovers quickly.

I'm so sorry Choppa. Godspeed Dolce

It looks like a hard sell to me. I notice this is your first post on this forum??? Are you connected to the company that sells this stuff?

I had my boy desexed right on 24 weeks and his coat is still sleek. He has got a very full, thick coat but definitely not woolly, just a darn lot of hair. I use thinning scissors when grooming him. His coat looks very shiny and healthy. He had a fairly big coat before he was desexed. My girl was 16 weeks old when I got her. The breeder was going to show her but she hurt her back (the breeder, not the dog) so that put her out of the show ring. She had my girl desexed at 15 weeks when she decided to sell her. The girl has more of a puppy coat than my boy. She's 2yo now and I don't think she'll ever have a big coat. She's fine and silky.

When the cav grows its adult coat it's best to brush and comb every second day. This way you prevent matts from forming. With puppies I brush them with a soft baby brush every day to get them used to being groomed. It's wise to pay particular attention to behind the ears. This is usually the first place they will get matts. If I left my girl for a week without brushing and combing she would be very matted, she has very fine silky hair. My boy has a coarser coat and doesn't matt as easily as the girl but he still gets brushed every second day. His fine hair behind the ears and between the back legs where his testicles used to be will matt. I also check the 'armpits' because that can be another problem area. I have never clipped or shaved my Cavs. They are not a breed that is normally clipped. I scissor them to keep them tidy. If you clip them the coat tends to grow woolly and it really changes the texture of their lovely coats IMO. Show Cavaliers are never clipped. I have a slicker brush but I find the Furminator does a better job and they quite like the feeling of it. They're not too fond of the slicker even though I'm gentle with it and it is a soft one. I use the furminator only after they have been dried after their bath.
-
I think your husband has hit the nail on the head. They moult a lot. What you need to get is a Furminator to take out all the dead hair and undercoat. It cuts down on the furballs rolling around the house.

I used to have Synflex sent over here but it has such a strong synthetic smell. It was back when I was using Cosequin and it became unavailable. I like the Joint Guard better than Synflex.
-
Yep, I agree with your vet. That's why I use Joint Guard. The glucosamine in JG is hydrochloride. However glucosamine isn't of much use really unless it's combined with Chondroitin. Glucosamine builds cartilage and the Chondroitin inhibits the enzymes that break down cartilage. Not much point IMO in building cartilage unless you can prevent it breaking down. Also gluc. hydrochloride is more bioavailable to dogs due to the molecular structure.
