Off to the vets for a check up..........best to be safe than sorry.

Hi All This would have already been discussed but have to put in once again. I live on the NSW Central Coast and we are in plague proportion with paralasis(sp?) ticks. I have a mobile grooming business, with-in the last two weeks I have sent three clients to the vets with their dog having at least one tick I had found while washing. But it's breaking my heart I've just received another phonecall from another client who Husky just passed from tick poisoning. Another client last week also lost their dog from ticks, but this dog was found to have 14 ticks. Neither from a lack of care. The second had taken himself for a walk being a farm dog, and was missing for no longer than 1 1/2 days, and when he returned it was all just too late for poor Jack. I've received phonecalls asking what can people do about them in their yards. One person rang because they had so many they couldn't leave the dogs there (only just bought the house) as the dogs and themselves would be covered within minutes from brown ticks. They contacted the council, wires anyone who might be able to help rid them, but they said they knew nothing and wouldn't assist because it's natural. HAVE YOU ANY SUGGESTIONS HOW TO TREAT THE YARD/PROPERTY? Thx in advance Sharon

Oatmeal Shampoo....................................
pesh replied to pesh's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thx for the replies. Don't want to say what I'm using as it is a good product but not to the standard I want. Don't like to poo hoo on a business, unless they go out of their way to make life misserable. -
Lots of genetics and how you bring them up. Could be your more relaxed in life, and that is reflected in the way your bringing up your dog. Your calm and he follows. Great to hear you've found a dog to return the love.

We had a bitch we brought in, lovely bitch to watch moving, but slow her down in the ring, she'd start to pace. Tried doing tight figure 8 with her, swimming, and tried retraining the movement. Nothing worked. Sometimes it's in the lines.

So what are the decissions made? Need some guidelines to follow. Who and where to send them? What is the closure date? Is there a theme? etc etc etc..............................

Here's a suggestion for non sewers. Use cotton square available at spotlight or any craft store. Wash it. Then use fabric paint and place you design on. Many types of fabric paint, the type you can use a paint brush with, or sqeeze bottles that have a raised finish to it. If there is a few dolers who live near each other or willing to post to each other, worth sharing in the cost of the paint unless you really get into it and make LOTS on you own.

Thx ever so much guys. Knew I'd get the advice needed in here. Once again, your help will be greatly apreciated. Sharon

Cut it off, be done with it. But not skin short, leave an inche or so, don't want the sun getting at her. Plus if she's elderly she won't beable to stand for the period of time you'd need to get through it all. Good luck..........have fun..lol

Hi All Just had a client on the phone, in tears. One of her dogs has Cushing Disease, heart murmer, and a racing heart. The blood test will be back tomorrow. She's been told if the bitch starts to cough she's to go straight to the vets as it's likely to be going into heart failure. Has anyone else had a dog with this, and what is it? What was the out come? Any tips? Thx Sharon

When I'm washing the yellows I find them smellier and slightly harder to get a good finish on, but hey I'm comparing a yellow dog that maybe washed one a month to a black dog that is washed every fortnight. But the chocolate I do is even smellier, but again she's a once a monther and swims in the chlorinated pool. Yes the black boy I'm talking about is a pure bred, and very very sweet, he just loves his tubs & me. Will try and take a photo. Thought there would have been an easy answer for this, obviously not.

Hi All I wash a black lab, and his coat goes steal blue at times. They don't feed him anything odd, the only thing he has that might make a difference is fish, and plenty of it, the owner is a fisherman. So Boof gets the rough bits and pieces. It's not the product I use, as I have a few black labs and plenty of black coats on the books and they all go well with this wash. I'm just worried it's a health issue with this boy. He is vet checked, and well taken care of, just the colour is odd. Maybe he's a new colour lab................ Any suggestions? Thx in advance.... Sharon ps.....yes the owner does know I'm asking this question, as he also is wondering.

Crate training......make the crate a place where the dog wants to be. Feed him in there. His water bucket in there. Place treats in there. A warm hot water bottle under his blankets. Do this during the day, extending his period of time in there. Start with a 1 minute or two, then give great praise when you getting him out because he hasn't been whining and carry on. Don't push it too much, as you want it to be a "Good" thing. I like crates training, as they are where you know they should be and not under your feet. It's a hard process for some dogs especially pups as they're use to being in a group situation. But keep it up, you'll be pleased when you succeed. Good luck.......... Sharon

Once again your full of great info, thx muchly.

Thx for the replies so far......... Ellz, do you soak them in milk prior to the dehydrator?
-
Hi All Never really thought of this before, but what dehydrated liver should be given to dogs? Is there any real reason they can't have a mixture of lean dehydrated animal liver? Yes, I'm talking about it as a training device, not a meal.... Thx for the help................... Sharon

Like what has been said, train and trim. You're going to have this dog for a long time and wouldn't like the dog anesthetised each summer. -
Dog Ate Stocking... Some Advice Needed...
pesh replied to 5tumpy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Parrifin oil or milk, many dogs are lactose intollerant and will create the runs. One of my gals stole a whole mango seed of my plate in one quick gulp it was gone. The vet said no use x-raying as it wouldn't show. Every morning and every afternoon we did the poo check, it eventually came out. Hope all goes well.............. -
6 months here. The testicles can take till 6 months to drop. But I would have him seen by a vet who knows what he's looking for. Can end up with big complications if not dealt with. Not sure about small breed, but the larger breed I like them to be done way before the 10 month mark. Hormones start to take hold and you will get the stronger urine, habits kick in. Just easier for all done early.

No offence taken at all. I agree. If I have someone ring who wants the dog TOTALLY dried I recommend a salon. Mobiles don't have the time to place multiple driers on a dog, and I don't find it fair for a dog to stay/stand in one place for so long. I also recommend the older dogs, large-extra large breed be taken to salons to be clipped. Why? Because these jobs can take a couple of hours, a dog needs a break now and then, a mobile can't do that. Your working on one dog, where as a salon you can give a dog a break and work on another in between breaks. We have one salon up here who you wait your turn for the clip and your not to leave the dog. He charges $25, and aparently is very busy.

Notice BIG price difference in shops and mobile. But I'd say this gets down to time given to each job.

Thx Nekhbet. Interesting topic.
