  1. Just a quick note to say Hi and a huge congrats to Kelly Louise on her impending betrothal . Glad to hear everyone is OK too. I saw MalleeRR's pics on another thread and replied there but h;ad you had a great time. Now for my big scare....... I had Steve from K9Force here for a behaviour consult and put Duncan out the back for a while. After I said bye to Steve I heard some clanging coming from the back yard and just thought someone was mucking about with their Weber lid. Imagine my horror when I looked out the back to find Duncan on top of the hooded BBQ (the type with the big roasting hood) . He had jumped up there to try and reach the invading birdies :D . I swear the stupid dog thinks he is a cat sometimes . I was freaking out that he'd fall or jump down and hurt himself all over again ; luckily he took the safest way down so PHEW!!! Cheers, Corine
  2. Hi CTD, I agree with what Steve has said but would like to add that there may be an underlying health reason for the lack of food drive. My avatar boy was totally not interested in food as a pup and would respond far better to praise and toys. With all due respect to Steve I don't think even TOT would have made a difference at the time. After many repeated episodes of diarrheoa we insisted on an endoscopy being performed and he was found to have Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). By this time he was almost 2yo and weighed nothing. All Duncan's food was going straight through him and not doing it's job. Can you imagine being interested in food if you had Gastro at the time? I'm not saying this is the case with your boy but it might be worth considering a vet check if he seems unwell at all. Now we have the IBD under control Duncan is a pig, so much so I've cut back his rations. With food rewards in high distraction environments you need to find that "million dollar food", something that makes him drool at the scent of it. Many find that BBQ or roast chook or Cabanosi does the trick. Standard treats might work in the back yard but fail in the park where there's lots of other yummy scents, sounds, and activity to take his interest. Good luck though as I know where you are coming from. Cheers, Corine
  3. Mel looked at the water but I was worried she thought it was like our old pond and would try and drink it. What is it with dogs and gross water ? Strangely for a dog who "religiously" stalks birds in the garden she showed little interst in the ducks but then they weren't flying around "her" yard :D . It was a great day, so much to absorb. Thanks Steve for putting on another fantastic workshop , now to solve this - and I'll be right . Cheers, Corine
  4. Hi PJ, Your Dad probably meant well, my dogs will crawl in your lap if they want to go out, he may have just misread the signal. IT's amazing how many people don't understand about dogs and fireworks, some even take their dogs along to watch the show . Hope Jyra had a good bath after all that swimming, that water was pretty manky . Regards, Corine
  5. Sorry for the late reply as I have been ill since the workshop and haven't been on DOL in days OMG! It's OK Haven, we sorted that one out. I checked all the puppy shots certificates and she'd had the Bronchishield on the previous one which only has to be given once during the puppy shots according to my vet. You probably didn't see much of her as she spent most of her time in her crate trying to bury her pig's ear in her blanket it seems. She was miss calm and sedate at the workshop, totally different to at home, I only got 2 "air snaps" from her the whole day (this is where she clacks her jaws at you without barking, she will do it several times in succession ). Then again she had all my attention that day and wasn't competing with the other dog we have at home). The little red dog was Roxy with Roxy's mum, very striking little dog :D . Regards, Corine
  6. There's only 1 thing better than 1 Rough Collie and that's 2 Rough Collies . Of course I am biased . My mum had a Pomeranian X at one stage and she got on fine with my Collie, can't even recall them ever fighting and both were females. Collies are pretty sensitive and while they play rough and tumble games well together I think a big boisterous boofer might be a bit much JMHO. So much depends on the individual dog's personalities and drives though, don't think there can be any hard and fast rules applied here. Cheers, Corine Edited 4 spelling.
  7. I found this on the Vic Animal Aid website:- So C5 only covers the bacterial component while C4 covers the viral, I can't work out why they wouldn't have both together . Now I don't know what to do! Cheers, Corine
  8. Is Roxy crate trained? I would not recommend crating a dog who hasn't been trained to stay in one happilly. Cheers, Corine
  9. Bump as I'm panicking now, don't want to drive all the way there and find out I have to take her home again . Haven if you happen to read this can you answer the query on my last post please? Cheers, Corine
  10. I was told by Steve there are areas to secure the dogs but to bring a crate anyway. Cheers, Corine ETA: Oh shite, I just noticed the vacc cert for the dog I am bringing is only for the C4 not C5. I've never had to board her so the issue hasn't arisen before. Haven are you there?
  11. Thanks Bella and Haven for posting the info, I was stressing too Cheers, Corine
  12. It's OK ISH, another DOLer has emailed it to me (names witheld to protect the innocent ). Cheers, Corine
  13. Is anyone going to this also getting a private consult? I can't seem to locate my consult questionairre and need another copy. I've tried emailing the k9Force team but seems the office is closed for stocktake. PM me if you prefer to. Cheers, Corine
  14. I'm going too, not sure which of the monkeys I will bring this time. Cheers, Corine
  15. I just want to point out it's not just -mectin based drugs which some dogs are sensitive too, Milbemycin Oxime is also on the list. Milbemax contains this drug and is a common worming treatment. I sent my OH off to the vet to get some worming tablets and that's what he came home with :D . The vet knows I have Collies so I'm a bit peeved, in all fairness though perhaps the vet nurse/receptionist who sold him the tablets didn't know. Needless to say they will be returned unopened. With Collies and related breeds only an MDR1 sensitivity test performed by DNA swab can confirm the dog's status. I have had both mine tested and I have 1 "Carrier" and 1 "Clear". I will not risk my Carrier dog on the suspect drugs even though Carriers are not classed as Affected. It just means I have to find a drug safe for both so there is no danger of dosing the Carrier with the wrong drug. As a puppy and before I knew his status he did receive some of the monthly Heartworm tabs, both Heartguard and ProHeart, without apparent ill effects. That's a lot different to a 6mth or 12mth injection though as the dose rate would be much higher. Just yesterday I got a letter in the post from the Vet practise we attend promoting the injections. I've had a long discussion with one of the vets there about this but he has since left, guess I'll just have to do the educating all over again . Cheers, Corine
  16. R.I.P. little ones, fly high with your new wings . Regards, Corine
  17. R.I.P. Simba I lost 2 from my only litter, hearbreaking stuff I know . Regards, Corine
  18. Hi ya DD , I'm still weighing up my options, now that Mel's a big show star I might have to concentrate on show training. She's easy to groom as she doesn't have a real heavy coat yet; now Duncan is another matter entirely . Cheers, Corine
  19. I wandered over for a look after breed & group judging was finished, I didn't have my dogs with me though. I got confused by the number of GSDs till I realised it was the GSDCV training school next door LOL. The Westernport classes seem fairly small (which is good IMHO). Do they train for competitive obediance there? I've done puppy and basic with my 2 but need to find a club which goes further with their classes. Cheers, Corine
  20. What part of KCC do Westernport train in? I'll be there tomorrow but for the all breeds show. Cheers, Corine
  21. Hi Cassie, Start introducing a little of the Nutro when your other bag is getting low, it's a good idea to ease any diet changes in gradually. making a wholesale change can cause tummy upsets, blending in a little more of the new food over a number of days is the way to go. I'm getting some Nutro samples to try as well (thanks Sagittarian) Cheers, Corine Edited for spelling error.
  22. There is a condition in growing dogs called Pastionitis (not sure of spelling), basically "growing pains". My friends GSD had it but at a later age, it was painful for the dog to move and it would cry out in pain. It might be worth asking the vet about this too. Hope pup is soon on the mend ;) . Regards, Corine
  23. Well Duncan thinks all this girly attention is just wonderful and has run off to phone his agent. Time for another centrefold he thinks, perhaps Playdog might be interested ;) . Cheers, Corine
  24. Gee Bilby you have had some dramas it seems, hope your back on the air soon. Hope your FIL is OK! Cheers, Corine
  25. I'm here Antoinette . Nothing much to report, Duncan hasn't tried to eat any other boy dogs yet this week . Cheers, Corine
