  1. Where do you buy the anti guzzling bowls from? I've never heard of them but if they do work I seriously need one.
  2. OK it's official I'm an overprotective mum who's making it worse by making Stan a sooky la la *sigh*.LOL only jokin'.Thanks heaps everyone for your feedback and advice, much appreciated. It's time to ignore(well not fuss over)the choked prawn!Luckily my little greyhound Maddie is not fazed by a storm(would go out for a wee in a tsunami)and does have a calming effect on him.If the thunder is cracking and I'm in the shower I'll come out and he'll be sitting on Maddie's head on the lounge.Big bad Stanley always has his little(adopted) sister to watch over him.Or under him which is usually the case.
  3. Corvus he does runaround but only in the room I'm in.For eg if I'm sitting on the lounge he leaps around the loungeroom. If it gets bad he'll go and get in my bed and I don't follow him I just leave him until he comes out.
  4. I have a couple of dogs here who hate storms.. I just make sure they are somewhere safe , where they can see us ..and leave them to it- not patting/soothing. They get rescue remedy if they are really upset- but that's it. I'm mean :p Your not mean. This is exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for.Sorry about the choked prawn,my dear departed mum used to say this about her dog and it's so true. Thanks
  5. I have two rescue greyhounds and my big boy Stan hates the thunder. He jumps off the lounge or bed and runs around with his eyes bulging out like a choked prawn! Not unusual for dogs I know but I had a difference of opinion with a friend on how to deal with it.I sit beside him and pat him and talk to him in a soothing voice which seems to calm him where as she says I shouldn't sooky him I'm making it worse. She says ignore him and he'll get over it.I've only had greyhounds since Aug last year but I find them vey emotional dogs.My ridgy X I had for 16 years would run down the backyard leaping in the air trying to bite the thunder and I would yell out get inside you lunatic and he would but this boy is different.I would like to know what others do in the thunder situation(not just greyhounds all breeds of dogs). My dogs are never locked out they always have access to inside the house.BTW my little grey girl just lays there when the thunder rumbles and doesn't bat an eye!
  6. A friend of mine was telling me they saw a doberman in one of the pounds that the owners had surrended because they were moving back o/s.Beautiful dog only problem was it could only understand chinese!
  7. Ok true never thought of it that way, point taken.
  8. Thanx Roguedog,it just worries me that I'll be on the other side of the country!!!!!!Mind you I have the most wonderful friends here in Terrigal that will be the first there if it all goes to crap
  9. That's really interesting BoxerGirl they don't mention anything on the website about solo boarding so thanks for the heads up.
  10. I love the ones that ask for money.OK I try to understand peoples cucumstances change(I do try)moving overseas, death in the family but to advertise an animal in the paper and then say $200 ono makes me sick.Your ditching Fido but wouldn't mind a couple of bucks! My beautiful mum died 6 years ago this week and her Tenterfield Terrier was her life.Miss Tessa May still lives with my brother today because we would never have let her go with anyone but us.What's wrong with people!
  11. Sorry said that wrong.JUST MY OPINION.See I'm cranky
  12. I love the ads that say""Free to good home 10 year old dog owner relocating real estate won't allow pets".JMPO but this one makes my blood boil. How can you have a pet for so long then give it up for rental reasons.I am a renter always have been always will be and have done so with dogs for 20 years.I don't hide them I just find a place that lets me have them.I've been lucky to stay in this area but if I couldn't I would relocate to where I can!I would never give up my four legged kids for love nor money.
  13. Cafepress.com is fantastic.I have bought heaps of greyhound stuff from them.Just on greyhound t-shirt section alone there is about 4000 shirts to choose from! They have everything you could imagine.Just don't be in a hurry to recieve your order my last shirt took almost 5 weeks to arrive.
  14. Thank you everyone for your help.I am also concerned about the dogs being together unsupervised. As we know a bite to a greyhound isn't just a scrape it can be a gash and stitches but I love the idea of the heated floors.I'm going the first week in Sept so it's still winter and as my two sleep in my bed with me and I hate to think they would be freezing their bald buts off.(they do wear coats but still).I have been to Playhouse at Wyee and it's lovely but not in winter.I will check out the Abermain one. Thanks again.
  15. I know this is totally OT but OMG your dog is gorgeous!
  16. This is hard for all that have been thru and all that will go thru.I lost my ridgy X on 29th Nov 2009.He had just turned 16 years old just weeks before. He had a stroke(there is another name for it) at 13 then pancreatitis at 14.At 15 his arthritis was so bad his back legs were starting to drag.I always said to my vet"I will never keep him alive for me".At 16 he was diagnosed with a cancer on the liver. That day he never came home.I had him since he was 6 weeks old and we had been thru thick and thin for half my adult life but I never bought him home that day because I promised my best friend I would not keep him alive for ME.The cancer was well advanced and he could not walk and my beautiful vet told me it was time.It makes no difference if it's 16 days or 16 years you will know.
  17. They should also interview people who are neighbours to people who've adopted ex-racing greyhounds...like us. Greys not only make wonderful pets but they are the loveliest dogs to have living next door. Affectionate, not rabble rousers, cruisy & calm (they only go all out, when they have a sprint)....with the most beautiful eyes!!!! I'd like to see greys used more for pet therapy in nursing homes (their height & calm make them perfect). Also, if someone will look to the daily walks & bathing, mature aged greys are wonderful pets for the elderly. Thank you Mita.I have two rescue greys and all my neighbours love them especially my 90 year old neighbours who tell me daily what they get up to.For instance today they picked the the chokoes off their vine and ran around the backyard throwing them at each other!
  18. I was wondering if anyone has boarded at Pet Resort Terrigal NSW.I'm going to WA for a week in Sept and need to find somewhere for my two greyhounds.I thought I had a housesitter lined up but has fallen thru.I'm beside myself leaving them as it is
  19. Thanks for that, thought it was supposed to be on Bondi Vet last night wondered what happened
  20. No it's not.I remember watching a greyhound race(as a barmaid you see lots of races at work)and the lure broke down before it got to the boxes but the dogs still jumped.About a hundred metres up the track the leading dog realised it was chasing nothing and then it dawned on them all so they just started jumping on each other playing,it was hysterical
  21. Happy Birthday georgous Feather.I know what you mean about the excitement.I used to take Stan to the straight track at Gosford dog trackwith other people and their rescue greys. As soon as we drove in there he knew where he was going and would go mental when he got out of the car.The look on Feathers face is priceless certainly enjoying that part of her pressie. The last dog in the photos is beautiful, love the eyes.Great shots.
  22. Those photos are fantastic! They look so excited.
  23. I don't know if this helps but I live on the Central Coast and if anyone in this area can help this baby I will pick her up from Newy anytime after midday tomorrow(work in the morning) and bring her back.
  24. I don't know how those laughing icons ended up up top, sorry new to this.
