What a beautiful story. R.I.P. Another Angel you know...
-
I once saw an episoide of Dr Harry where a JRT was getting the squirts after being at the beach and he put it down to the fact that as the dog bounced through the water it was forcing water up into its rectum effectivly giving itself an enemma. He didn't see it as a big problem, but then I guess he's not the dog or the owner who has to clean up. :D What? The rectum doesn't just sit there open letting water up it.....same as us!
-
Indeed. mmm I don't know....you should have seen the scene I came home to yesterday when the dog finially figured out the bin.....cabbage everywhere!

We say "Feet" and entice them to put their front feet on the object with a lure treat. You can have a hotdog or something that you can keep in that hand and they can nuzzle at. Is he a nippy dog in general i.e. when he gets over excited or frustrated? He may have a sore leg or he have learned a negative association, perhaps have a vet look him over.
-
Sounds like he was majorily stressed by the whole thing and when you got home with him he was stil stressed hense the nip. My boy shows aniexty to different things, I introduce him very slowly i.e. turn the clippers on and treat from a distance for calm behaviour and then over the course of a few days or more throw treats near the table the clipper in on. Once that stage is done then pop the dog on the table whilst the clipper is on etc. Just baby steps and reward for good behaviour. There was a technique that we used in puppy school and that was teaching a pup to "Feet" the action of putting their 2 front feet on an item like a stable box etc, then with one hand you treat the dog, with the 2nd hand you brush the dog to create a positive assocation.

Keeping Working Breeds Or Big Dogs In Small Spaces
sas replied to dee lee's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs only use the yard when they toilet. Great Danes are known as apartment dogs in the states, although I think they need something a bit bigger than a court yard just to have a wee bit of space, but I don't believe any dogs need a large backyard as dogs don't self exercise. -
Ummm you're being very broad, not all hot dog products are like that, as we have to research anything that is fed to our allergic dog. Maybe some research is in order rather than just parroting an article you read somewhere
-
My dog is allergic to Chicken and Chicken is in everything as most people know , we buy a hotdog product without chicken. It's a processed food, just the same as any other processed food and they're not all full of preservatives and colours, just need to read the label to make sure you're buying a product that you're comfortable with

Try a Great Dane! We respect those who are scared of our dogs no matter what culture, it's hard for those of us who grew up with dogs to understand what all the fuss is about but some people never had the opportunity to have family dogs. If people want to brave and come say hello we make sure we give them a great experience with Leila, Dante is too much in your face. The best thing you can do to help people overcome their fear is to have well behaved and well trained dogs, in time they may be brave enough to come and say hello My Asian neighbours, I'm not sure where they are from originally have 2 malteses, although they live out side they interact with them a fair bit and are not scared of our dogs.

Yep, they're our training treat of choice.

Thomas, Do you feed only meat, no veg at all?

What he said My 5 Vizslas are about to sit down to half a raw possum each, all organs intact and some green tripe. Yesterday it was a whole chicken each. Tomorrow, who knows, will see what I can get. Maybe a bowl of ox heart as they have had some bone the last 2 days and I hardly ever go 3 days with bony meals. My point is,it is'nt hard . I work on 80% meat,10 % bone,10% organs of which 5 % is liver. I took in a litter brother to one of my boys at 14 months,he had terrible skin allerigies and was allergic to everything, his brother I raised did'nt,he had been raised on dry and canned food,of various kinds. All dermatology tests his original owners did said he was allergic to all meats and dust and blah blah, they were going to put him down. Nup,we will have him I said. Well within about 6 weeks this dog looked normal and has never had a skin issue since,he is nearly 9 and asleep next to me after running 1 1/2 hours at the beach. IMO feeding a dog a vegetarian diet is abuse! Tell the lady at work that! I wish that were the same for us, we did raw for over a year to try and combat allergies.
-
(Sorry, couldn't resist the silly typo joke) I forgot about the Royal Canine version, if I had to go vego for the dogs I'd go with one like that from an established premium dog food company.
-
I fed Dante on a Vegetarian diet for a little while but notbecause I'm a Vegan....I'm a Meataterian LOL Dante was fed this diet due to trialing different things for his allergies. We used the Royal Canin kibble, I did a fair bit of reasearch on it and deemed it scientifically suitable for him for a short term trial. What is dissapointing here are a bunch of people who know very little on this given subject and turn their opinion into fact...tutt tutt...you only make yourself look silly. Thanks Steve for the educational point of view.

Hormonal Issues In A Female Husky.

I'd say in cases like this there's no place for assumptions, get a Vet to check her out and then if nothing shows up there get in a Behaviourist to assess the dog and make a decision from there. -
Goodness, what a drama! Is this gentleman interesting in getting an import cert for oxy drops as well? LOL
-
My dog has been on Cortisone for 2 years + He drinks more and is more hungry. Allow her to get used to the drugs, speak to your Vet daily if you think that is what is neccessary.

I-click Clickers - Any Stores In Sydney Sell Them?
sas replied to pipsqueak's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
i-clickers are Blackdog and only come in Black and Yellow though or are you talking about another clicker? -
My Leila years ago dropped just under 10kgs with the following: Day 1: Mashed Brocilli, Peas, Beans, Potato with a large amount of Pumpkin. No Carrot. Day 2: Same as above Day 3: BARF Day 4: Mashed as per Day 1 & 2 Day 5: Same as above Day 6: BARF Repeat. You can give as much Mash as you want. The dog may turn their nose up at it to start with but when they realise they have no choice they'll eat it. Off leash exercise as well was beneficial.
