Goodness, it sounds like Mandela is having a really hard time at the moment. Can you let us know how you go with the analysis/treatment stuff?
-
Erny, did you happen to find out anything further about the hair analysis?
-
I could have told you that just by looking at him ;)

Seperation Aniexty can manifest in a dog from a pound or a puppy from a breeder this is why it has been reccomended seeking the assistance from a Behaviourist. One of the most common reasons for seperation aniexty is confusion of pack structure which is definately work-able. -

Getting him used to the enclosure will not neccessarily assist with seperation aniexty as that is not the core of the problem. I would suggest having a Behaviourist come out and assist you with the problem. Re-homing him is just sending the problem elsewhere. -
Can Anyone Help Me Find These Books?
sas replied to Grey's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I found these links through Google: - Feisty Fido - help for the leash aggressive dog : Patricia McConnell http://www.bigwentertainment.com.au/produc...75_2809851.html - Click to calm : Karen Pryor http://www.thevetshed.com.au/product_info....roducts_id/1586 - 100 ways to train a perfect dog : Sarah Fisher http://www.wagschoolbooks.com.au/shop/book...rie-miller.html - Really reliable recall : Lelsie Nelson - Couldn't see anything. -
I presume from your post that the person you went through didn't help any? I've left a message for Mr. Barry Templeton to call me back. I just want to discuss at this stage and I'll make a point of asking what method/s he uses for analysis - thanks for alerting me, Sas. Not sure whether I'll go ahead with it yet. ETA: Have spoken with Mr. Templeton. I explained in brief (even brief was long ) health history and Mr. Templeton (with a serious laugh in his voice) suggests he is going to be a challenge. I've decided to give it a whirl. Can't hurt to at least see what the diagnosis is. Ah no. They said there were weakness in his brain......right....and? I'd be interested in how Mr. Templeton does his testing.

I think it's all well and good having plenty of different options when one is at their wits end but people need to be more honest about how they are doing stuff i.e. Scentific vs hovering ones hands over hair and getting 'feelings' on what is wrong with the dog. Hopefully this guy is more scientific.

Can you give more info on this?? What are they analysing? What allergens do they test for in this way? Sorry but I don't know alot about it. I do know that poisons, drugs etc can be detected in hair and that hair stores information for a fair while. If Erny talks to this guy she might be able to let you know more. It might not work for everyone but if nothing else is helping it's worth a try. http://www.justgreyhounds.com/hairanalysis.html

I had hair analysis done for my dog, spent around $200 for it HOWEVER I later found out the person who did it was diagnosising through vibrational engery not an actual scientific hair analysis. I'm all for alternative theraphies but what a load of crap!

RIP Jordy. Another Angel you know...

A $2 cake of Sunlight or bottle of Head & Shoulders is much cheaper me thinks!

Before you start on Cortisone (if you go down that track) get yourself to a Specialist because you can't do some of the testing whilst on Cortisone. A Holistic Vet is all well and good but i.m.o these are the folks you see when you can't find a solution with Specialists etc. You will have to shell out $ but it will be worth it! Food allergies aren't that common, not as common as what many people make out, so best to speak to someone whose trained for years in their given field rather than a know-it all on a dog list who could be reccomending things that are delaying treatment of your dog.

Head & Shoulders, it's a clarifying shampoo.

Dogs break stays all of the time in trials. Nobody in this thread has stated their dog was attacked during a stay. I have been on the trialling scene since 1995, and I have not witnessed an attack during a stay yet. There is very little to worry about,.....as I said, its a controlled enviroment. Nup, sorry, not convincing People kept saying the other dogs interfer with their dogs and stewards aren't quick enough. I'm stoked you've had such a great run though!

I reccomend Peter in Berkshire Park, he is a Muscle Manipulator: 0411 353 130 I saw Neil 3 times, I wasn't impressed. Everyone has their favourite though I guess.
-
He's not roaching to tic you off, he either has a conformation problem or he has a back problem that can be assisted by Bowen/Muscle Manipulation/Chiro. If he's not liking hand stacking it can either mean he's testing boundaries or it's actually uncomfortable for him.

That's not what people here are saying... there are numerous stories of things that have happened to dogs in stays.

Cortivance is Cortisone just in a Spray and can only be used short term i.e. 14 days. -

I have a highly allergic dog, do you guys not use Cortisone when absolutely neccessary? I understand some people are really against Cortisone use but if you can find a Vet who can educate you on the correct dossage level..... Long term use of using a high dose of Cortisone is where problems really start to occur...you can avoid that with research and a good Vet. We go for Cortisone for Quality of life, we use the tablets so we can change the dossage i.e. step it up or step it down. -
I presume there is no actual issue if you go to your dog to protect it from a dog who has broken its' Stay and is approaching other dogs, excuse yourself from the ring etc. I know you wont get the points but surely the safety of the dog is more important. Not a great deal of dogs would appreciate another dog standing over the top of it.

Beautiful! Congratulations! -
My dog is exactly the same, it is the one thing stopping me from trialing at this point. I need the reassurance that someone is going grab the offending dog and have them under control in a flash. I don't think it's fair to say that dogs like ours shouldn't compete. What if our dogs are the ones with the good stays who don't break them and then end up having another dog interfer with our dog..... Why don't stewarts get their butts there pronto?
