  1. I always find it interesting when people turn to food first, food allergies and food intolerances aren't as common as people think or make them out to be. People are so ready to jump on the don't feed your dog this grain or kibble or don't feed your dog that but every dog is different and what works for one dog doesn't neccessarily work for the next. The dogs of yester-year were fed junk food for dogs with all the things with frown upon these days and didn't have the problems dogs these days do to the degree they do. I'm not saying the food isn't the issue but I certainly don't think it's productive to be the first thing to jump on. I'd follow the Vets advice first and use the Malaseb on those areas of concern, could just be a staph infection, anti-biotics could help to clear this up. If you get a flare up then that's a different story. My advice is work with your Vet then work with Derm if you get a re-occurance.
  2. Was it like the one off ebay or are there others around? I got mine from a dog show. Kicking myself because at the xmas show last year they had all size pens for $110...realllly kicking myself The look a like ones are the same sizes generally so you can get the crate/pen covers, my pen is the exact same size as the largest CCrate. LOL why pay $300 for the same thing but different name for $100-$200 cheaper? This is what I keep thinking, its really is a big price difference! Considering I have a Dane and I have the pen without the floor, I can vouch for the quality, look exactly like the CCrates, wouldn't suprise me if they're made the same way or by the same people lol

  5. I have a CCrate look-a-like for my Dane and have no problems with it's quality of strength.
  6. There are a few practioners in Australia, not a great deal as the software to read the Canine Iris has only recently been developed and is pretty expensive and try getting a photo with the lighting correct of a dog eye! It's done on Horses quite a bit here.
  7. Can you take a photo? I wonder if it's that problem many of us recently discovered our dogs had that was call keratosis or something.
  8. And where would that be, exactly? Ditto, I would be most interested in seeing a dog that was cropped here in Australia!
  9. What's with the pussy footing around? Name and shame the bastards.
  10. I got my Dane some a few years ago due to prickles in the park BUT they rubbed on her, I believe you can get special socks that go in them now. It takes a little whilt for them to realise how to walk....if anything it's pretty entertaining.
  11. Bite? Testicles? Coat texture? Etc. I much prefer when a judge asks me to show my dogs bite.......too many times I have had experiences and have heard complaints about rough judges or apprehensive judges make dogs uncertain of this. Testicles are a given.....although to be honest, in some cases its pretty obvious that the dog has 2 testicles of similair size. Coat texture a brief touch if required for the breed............ Grand total the judge if required has touched your dog for less than 20 seconds........and then only if required!!!! Not in my breed... the pelt needs to be lifted off the dog's body, the texture must be felt and undercoat checked, bite needs to be examined, head needs to be measured (poor or clever grooming can alter the appearance), pads must be felt for thickness. Ribs need to be spanned (requires lifting the dog's forequarter off the table), tail should be measured. The smooth is similar- head should be measured (markings can alter perception), tail should be measured, undercoat should be checked etc. There will always be exceptions for some breeds..................... And you learn something about another breed every day...... I am of course, speaking in regards to "in general"....... and I have to ask ........how often is all that checked/measured in your general all breeds show??? Back pedel, Back Pedel
  12. Green Lipped Muscles from NZ - you can get the supplement. Also get onto a Glucoasine/Chondroiten/MSM conbined mix. Chondroiten is rubbish on its' own. The mixed formula will take about a month to kick in. Ester C is helpful in HD/ED cases so may assist you. Your Specialist would be the best best to speak to though.
  13. I think it's ok, I personaly prefer Valerian for dogs.
  14. For Pimples make sure you are feeding out of metal bowls, ditch all the plastic ones they will continue to habour the bacteria. Head to the Supermarket and grab some of the Yellow Original Formula Listerine and wipe your puppies pimples 2 or 3 times a day.
  15. Erny, glad to hear you have had more improvements!
  16. It's interesting you say that, so many cross breed rescues are brilliant temperments (i'm sure there are horrible ones out there too just like the Pedigrees), makes me wonder if Jo Blow breeds his bitch because he thinks she's such a nice dog....so effectively he's breeding for temperament rather than conformation. Not saying all BYB's obviously but just an observation.
  17. I have them, yes they are super tough but I don't like them that much, they're noisy because of the type of fabric and the Dane size ones - the covers don't fit on most washing machines, I find they flatten quickly and you have to give them a frequent good kick around. You'll need a cover on them to quiet them down and prevent hair from sticking to them as they do. Your dog will destroy the Cuddler.
  18. 1) I get the same Vet everytime who knows my dogs history. 2) I get a Vet I trust and is clearly all about the dog not all about the $. 3) I get a Vet that is compassionate about Rescue and offers free/discounted services/products. 4) I get a Clinic whose Vet Nurses are lovely and not grumpy bossy over opinionated prats you get in a lot of clinics.
  19. Some people aren't good on e-mail, so just phone them, not that hard...best not to make judgements about them based on the fact they aren't good on e-mail.
  20. Hiya, This video may help you understand the benefits of tugging and how to tug correctly:

    Great Dane

Yeah we're the same, I'm a believer in the power of a walk too, dogs don't self exercise so it doesn't matter if you live on large piece of land. To me walking everyday assists the bonding process, helps with training and allows the dog to be a dog....migrate and get in the scents of the neighbourhood. Dogs need structure, that is the power of the walk, off lead parks are great but they allow freedom not structure....so walking 3kms to the park is a great idea! We've walked from day one even if it was just up the road and back, by 18 months he was doing 3 kms a day. I take my dogs out regardless of weather, that's how important the walk is to me. The only exception is if it's too hot we'll go out later at night but yes we do walk in the rain!
  22. You're in la la land. It doesn't matter if Jesus himself is breeding DD's....it's wrong and unethical full stop.
