I like the idea of using the top so many wins, but do you think that 40 may still be to many ? I personally would like to see the top 20 wins for the dog for the year Ian

Champion Class- Should We Have A Seperate Class?
ahmadi replied to Stolzseinrotts's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have always been in favour of having a Champions class. I understand the thought that why should a dog not need to beat the champions to become a champion but there are many shows when dogs can become a champion without ever beating another dog anyway. I think if the Champions were in a seperate class the entry of non champions would increase which in the long run may make it harder for dogs to become champions without beating other dogs. In many breeds there may be a dog that wins consistantly and other exhibitors start to drop off in the breed. Look at any breed and as soon as a dog appears that wins all the time, no matter what breed it is others show a lot less. Ian -

Beenleigh And Districts Show 28th/29th
ahmadi replied to pixie_meg's topic in General Dog Discussion
My numbers arrived back in the mail today I always do this too..... we drive an hour to Durack each way so I want to know that they have my entries. I haven't received mine back yet, but always find shows that send the numbers back in the SAE dont normally arrive until the week before the show. -
Is it possible for people to use their real names so that everybody knows who everybody else is Ian

This club has tried to do their best to run a great weekend of shows and has invested a lot financially, and due to a natural disaster the show may not be able to go on. I think it is pretty sad that you are expecting a refund under the circumstances. if they have to refund entries it will probably break they club, so i hope you enjoy not having anymore shows at Wondai. I definately will not want my entries refunded as I know what is involved in running shows Ian

All my dogs get fed Pro Plan Performance with nothing added to it. occassionally they might get a chicken wing for their teeth , but that is it. I have been feeding Super Premium dry foods only since they first came to Australia and my dogs all look great and live to old ages. Ian

Australian Made Purina Pro Plan Performance
ahmadi replied to Julana's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use the Australian Made PP Performance both on my show dogs at home as well as it being fed to all the dogs at the Boarding Kennel I work at. I find the same great results as the imported one that we use to feed Ian -
Why would anybody want to know how to breed better Mongrels ?? They should be trying to educate people to breed better healthier purebred dogs Ian

Pet Meat Supplier On The Gold Coast

The owners name is Garry not Craig. Maybe the guy that does the deliveries is called Craig. Ian -
I am pleased to hear that the hot spot is healing well. I have found over the years that some dogs are more prone to them than others. If your dog does get another hot spot, please try my Listerine idea and if you act as soon as it starts to appear you will find that it will be gone within a day or so Ian www.saluki.com.au

I can vouch for the quality of the meats from Canine Country. We use it in the Boarding Kennel I manage, as well as for our own show dogs. Have been using it for ages, and have never had a problem with it Ian www.saluki.com.au Thanks for that, ill check them out! -
She is only a baby and I wouldnt be doing much walking with her at all. I am a believer that under 12 months of sge dogs should not have any forced exercise or you will have problems down the track. Just let her grow and play and have fun, and leave the road work until she is at least 12 months old Ian www.saluki.com.au

I feed my Saluki's Pro Plan and nothing else. But in saying that, I have a couple of fussy eaters and they get a small amount of chicken mince added. Ian www.saluki.com.au

One of the best things for Hot Spots is Listerine. Just buy the brown one ( it must be the brown one) from the supermarket and apply it to the hot spot twice a day and it will be gone in no time Ian

Well I think I will just stick to the Pro Plan that I have been feeding for years. My dogs live to ripe old ages and are very successful in the show ring. They have very few vet visits over the years either. People love to read things on websites that bag certain foods , but my attitude is that if it isnt broken, why try and fix it Ian www.saluki.com.au

If you are after a groomer on the Northside of Brisbane, I have referred a lot of people to Animal House near Stafford. The owners are not only great groomers, but very good with the dogs as well Ian

I am also feeding one of my younger Saluki's on Pro Plan Selects to try it out. He doesnt normally finish off all his food, but he is now on Pro Plan Selects Ian www.saluki.com.au

I would very much doubt that you could go from 6 cups a day to 2 - 3 cups a day. I tried Orijien on one of my dogs that has issues ( thought it could have been dietry) and it made no difference at all. In actual fact after eating it with gusto for a day or so, she then turned her nose up at it. So much with dog food these days is advertising hype and people all go for it. I am not saying that Orijien is not a good food, but quite frankly, it is way out of the price range of people that have multiple dogs. I feed Pro Plan and have done for many many years, my dogs all look amazing, and live to great old ages. I think the important thing is to feed what works for your dog, and not just change because something is new, and short term others rave over it Not that many months ago, EP seemed to be the flavour of the month, now that orijien is here, it seems to be the new food to feed As I say about lots of things, it it isnt broken , why try and fix it. Some people believe that BARF diets are the way to go, some thing commercial foods are best, and some a combination of both. Dont just feed what your dog enjoys the most, because that doesnt mean it is the best thing to feed. I love McDonalds, but it isnt the best for me. I wonder how long it will be before some other Wonder Food arrives on the market and somebody will come on here saying how great it is and others will all start changing to it. Long term results are the important thing, and by long term , I means years and years. I will stick with Pro Plan as I have had dogs fed on it all their life from weaning age ( I feed Pro Plan only and no other additives what so ever) and my dogs live to very old age compared to friends that swap and change diets as different fads emerge. First of all, I dont know how to delete parts of quotes, so will apologise now leaving everything I have in this email. When we breed our dogs, we often think that we are doing the right thing. There are many hereditory things in breeds that can not be tested for as such, and also remember, that although your bitch and the dog you use, may not be showing any signs of it, but sometimes their littermates will. You might breed generation after generation without ever having anything serious show up, then all of a sudden something might. So do you start all over again by getting rid of all those years of hard work, or do you try and breed it out of your line. Please remember, do not throw the baby out with the bathwater just because something might show up in your lines. Many years ago there was a breed that got totally hung up on hip scores and would breed from anything that didnt have a low hip score, by doing this they forgot about breed type. They may have helped the hip scores in the breed, but the quality of the breed suffered totally and then it took a long time to breed the quality back up again. In the long run, i wonder if the hip scores of today are any better than they were previously Ian I find this a strange comment - I don't know of any that would stoop that low and if they did they they certainly are not ethical. However if you were concerned you could always sight the original certificate. Yep I'm human but I definitely do not have any breeding skeletons in my closet. That is not to say that I would tell the whole world IF I had an issue but I would most definitely tell anyone considering purchasing a puppy or using a stud. I'm with you there Sheri yes we are only human I have only had the one litter no skeletons there and don't intend to have any either. I love this breed too much and will always try to improve on my dogs, and be open and honest about my dogs

Tear Staining can be caused by so many different factors that it cant be diagnosed without being looked at by a vet. Ian

If what I was feeding ( I feed Pro Plan btw) was causing internal damage, why do my dogs live to ripe old ages. Last year I lost 3 Saluki's that were 12,14 and 16 and they rarely had visits to the vet for health issues. Ian www.saluki.com.au
