  1. oh wow wouldnt that be great.. my dream to have something similar when i own a property ;) im not sure id open it to the general public though privately owned leaves you open for law suits yeah? and id hate to think what may happen if i let someone in and their dog was a rude little so and so who caused trouble..
  2. If someone can take him or even set up a kennel I'll send some money to help cover costs maybe $50? I can't afford alot but hopefully it will help?
  3. Ellie sounds gorgeous and definitely deserves a new life poor girl. I'd be happy to donate to anyone taking her to help cover costs just pm me with details. I'm sure my pup doesnt need too much more spoiling and sounds like Ellie would appreciate a little more love
  4. It looks like it's all wood? Do you own or rent? If you own perhaps look at using a staple gun/ hook nails and putting wire mesh between/around the rails to enclose it (hope that makes sense) perhaps gate the top of the stairs or run a ramp with texture on it down, you can take this up as the puppie grows/ and store for when they get old and don't like steps ;) Just a couple of ideas but I'll keep thinking on it puppies grow fast so shouldn't be an issue for long depending on breed
  5. I've said it in the Aussie thread but I'll say it here too huge congratulations on your precious new girl
  6. I'm glad they have actually reported him but a little frustrated that they wouldnt report for a month what if someone was missing him? Equally why not just officially claim him as yours instead of trying to avoid responsibility : ranger is doing the right thing IMO with holding them accountable. It's unfortunate that the dog has to be pts though. Glad puppy is coming through it ok fingers crossed for an uneventful puppyhood that he can enjoy from now on
  7. I've heard some breeds are notoriously fussy eaters (Aussies right up there) Like people some dogs even within specific breeds can vary on what is healthy and normal for them. My partner has a Siberian husky and she is a delicate eater who doesn't over eat but that's not typical of the breed ;)
  8. Lol try dealing with them in medicine... The doctors get the really raw deal ;).. Hospitality feeds them up, law enforcement cuffs them then as they complain theyre sick bring them in and doctors get a mess of alcohol induced stupidity related illness and injury... People really don't make much sense I'll stick to dogs and children (before they get to the difficult age ;) )
  9. Think it's fine to expect a dog to behave with manners but you HAVE to teach them those manners and set them up to succeed.. (and also be aware everyone dog and people have days where they just want to play around)
  10. Some puppies are just grazers my partner has a sibe that drove us insane with grazing too. If puppy is happy and healthy I wouldn't worry when hungry they do eat and they'll let you know ;)
  11. i definitely agree, when i am out with children i make sure i control interactions this teaches the children what is and isnt appropriate and exposes them to different situations, i am the same with dogs.. i teach any children i look after to respect dogs and ALWAYS ask before interacting with a dog as we dont know if it will be in the mood to play. its really not such a hard concept to grasp ive had 1.5 year olds grasp this with no issues how are adults unable to get this concept too??
  12. I would yes they are lovely people and will help if they can would you be willing to foster if they pull him? That may be the only obstacle as it's the time of year for dumping so everyone is desperate for carers
  13. maybe try AWDR they work with working dog breeds but may be full. some people are so frustrating!! why get the dog if you arent going to put the time in
  14. do you bother reporting it or doesnt it go that far? the owners really need to be more responsible especially if their dog isnt well socialized. i hope she isnt too traumatized as a result and is still happy to make friends what a horrible introduction to the big wide world poor girl
  15. Hi Fuzzycuddles, a great site for information on aussies is http://www.ashgi.org/toc.htm Thankyou
  16. I was wondering what the issues were with White Aussie shepherds? Someone I used to work for owned one (from a registered breeder) and it had alot of health problems. Is this normal?
  17. It sounds like he is bored and after company, is a second dog an option? I hope someone on here is more helpful.
  18. Have you considered getting a doggy play pen? Then he can be safely enclosed and they are designed for dogs.
  19. WOW talk about irresponsible! Shep is spoilt and generally happy at home but we did have another aussie visit who jumped the fence (we put another up over that section now) and led everyone out for a walk but with fences close to 6ft and only one place that shep had never shown interest in at all (he isn't a jumper) we were so surprised when we got back and nobody was home. Thankfully all back safe but it was an eye opener for us and I'm now a little more understanding when dogs do get out.
  20. I don't think any owner 'allows' their dog to escape, unfortunately it can happen despite ones best efforts if a dog is determined to get out it will, or someone may have let him out (we don't know the details merely that he escaped) I do agree that with ownership of any larger dog breed or even some of the medium breeds with a more widely known reputation you have to accept that someone may misinterpret your dogs signals or judge on breed/ size alone. It is not always enough to have a well socialized dog unfortunately and even the best can turn when put in a strange stressful situation with people they don't know in particular. I would like to see more education for rangers on how to read signals and general public definitely needs better dog awareness too. This is a tragic example of both the owner and the system failing and a dog paying with it's life as a result.. Have to agree it's VERY suspect that they won't release footage or comply with an investigation.
  21. We have had both Aussie and Lab puppies and I've always found the Aussies easier to manage so if you can face a lab for their considerable puppyhood I'd say you'll be ok with an Aussie. A person I used to work for had 5 dogs, Labrador, Aussie shepherds and a German shepherd as well as her two children. Seeing her walk everyone was incredible but she had a routine and it worked well, shed spend a day and a night a week doing obedience training with them and the Aussies all shared her room. I actually adopted my Australian shepherd boy through her an older boy who we renamed shep. If you feel you can manage 3 and are willing to commit go for it and Aussies are amazing can never have too many.
