  1. I have to add to this thread. I own a male GSD, and have always had big dogs, just not 'bull breeads'. I was never worried about them until I had a terrifying experience when I was walking a 6 mths old pup (ACD). I got 2 houses from my own and a APBT/mastiff looking dog came rushing across the road, no sounds. My pup did the puppy roll over and the dog grabbed him by the throat and started to shke him and drag him across the busy road. I was kicking this animal in the groin, I smashed a brick over its head, 3 men pulled their cars over, managed to prise the dog of mine, and I ran to my house with my bleeding, screaming puppy, but as I got to my home it got loose. It ran over again and got my puppy and the scene repeated itself. Eventually the men got him off, I got to my house, as I got inside my screen (thick security thank god) it threw itself against my door 3 times before retreating back across the road. I had wrapped a towel around my puppys neck to try to stop the bleeding, started to come out the front to go to the vets & it came back, slammed itself up against the door a couple more times. Eventually the dog was picked up by the rangers, who said as it was not a human attack only on another dog it wasnt going to be put down unless there were other reports. The ppl who owned it were complete idiots who should have been shot.I grew up on a farm and until this happened had no bias at all against these types of dogs but that experience I hate to say it, has changed my view even though I try to rationalise it. It was like a scene from a horror movie and I cant forget it. I know that this was an extreme situation and the likelyhood of it ever happening again is pretty minimal, I wish I didnt feel this way, it breaks my heart because I know that there are lovely bully dogs around, so apologies to anyone with one for my story. Now I am very, very wary of anything that looks remotely like a pit bull type, especially when the owners clearly have no control. I did see a teenager with one at the park the other day, I dont care how good your dog is, if it has the ability to potentially kill someone then dont let a kid walk it. Its dangerous. I dont let my kids walk my dog simply because if anything were to happen then my son doesnt have the strength or knowledge of how to deal with it.
  2. My 4 month old is the same too! She ignored a lamb shank in favour of barking/crying/screaming, but the second I'm inthe room she will happily tuck into whatever treat I've left for her. 4 month old's are weird creatures! I think mine is fairly ok when I'm out, but it's when she knows I'm home she goes nuts. I leave my webcam on some days when I go to work and she goes through phases of barking for a half hour or so, then plays/sleeps for a few hours. I leave long lasting treats for her (frozen things she needs to lick at to get, peanut butter smeared on plastic water bottles so when she pounces on it, it goes sliding across the tiled floor which means she has to really chase it (keeps her amused for hours!) OMG I was just going to get on here tonight and ask what is up with my 4 myh old puppy!! All of a sudden he has started barking his head off & freaking out whenever I take my other dog out for a walk. This anxiety attack he has started having is brand new & happens even when my husband & kids are home with him while I walk my older dog. He has also started barking at the back door to come in as well if he wants attention. This isnt an anxious type bark though, its a bratty 'let me in' bark. I shut the blinds and he stops straight away with that one. Im not too sure how to handle the seperation anxiety he has just started with my other dog. I have made sure I have given them both time away from each other since we have had the pup and its been fine til last week, I give him a kong with yummy treats, or a pigs ear to chew while Im gone but nothing weems to help. My husband has said that he is inconsolable, he has been just trying to ignore the barking and go about his usual things, that hasnt worked. He has also tryed playing with him but pup doesnt want to know about it.Dont know what to try next?

    Toys

thats funny, mine love the cardboard toilet roll too!! Coke bottles because they make a lot of noise flying across the tiles in the middle of the night. And also empty ice cream containers, my GSD puts his foot in them and skates them across the tiles, he loves it for some reason. The toy my GSD loves the most of all though is a huge teddy bear I bought for my kids one xmas, it is nearly as big as him (pretty big) and he holds it and sucks its ears, there is not one mark on it. I have had to put it up at the moment because we have a puppy who is too rough with it and Neo gets really upset. He loves his bear and I dont want the puppy destroying it, or the puppy getting hurt because of it.
  4. I have a mental picture now of a bunch of ppl with really obedient dogs but incredibly smelly pants bahahahaha
  5. Ditto re chicken necks, but I use semi raw steak. The bloody pockets tell the story, slimey on inside and out. Lmao thats so making me want to go back to pockets NOT
  6. I am going to make it my mission to find these Doggone Good treat bags. It makes me want it even more now they dont ship to Oz.It could get expensive looking through training supplies sites, I love shopping :)
  7. This looks like a really good bag! Now to find where I can get one in Oz, they dont ship to ouside US.
  8. Ive tried putting mt treats in my pockets but I find that either a) I struggle to get them out b) they all fall out or c) I forget about them when I get home and end up with smelly jeans from leaving dog treats in them.
  9. Hiya, Ive been bumbling along with my now falling apart bum bag to hold my treats when Im out training my dogs, its ready to be retired so I was wondering what everyone uses? I did buy a kramar one a couple of years ago with a drawstring to close it and it clipped on to my belt but it was useless. It felt so cumbersome that I went straight back to my bum bag. Ive been looking on the net and the ones I like the look of are the black dog, premier and guardian brands. Anyone using any of these?
  10. Yay, Im sooo excited my crate arrived yesterday!!!!!! Now to start crate training Obi so he doesnt freak out when he is in it for our show!
  11. Thx Rally Valley I will give the sweepstakes class a miss :)
  12. Probably by now you have had 100 tips re stacking your dog, but the best one I got was to practice by standing her across 2 chairs placed in front of each other, so I put her back legs on one chair and front legs on other and left little gap between the 2 padded seats, dangled a bit of juicy morsel in front of nose hey presto standing beautifully and with repeated short practices she "got it" quickly then we transitioned to table top which for some dogs is very intimidating, I don't think your breed has to do table top I think is a ground stack for judge to examine. but in our case with small breed we had to practice table and also ground, we are now to stage where I can get her to stack nicely after completing a circle, we practiced using a rolled up couple towels with tape to hold them in a roll and I had her stand over these once she got idea I removed the "padding" and it had imprinted on her so when I click my fingers and say stand she does Oh and she is only 16weeks old :) Good luck Thats a great tip, although I am a tiny bit scared my puppy will fall of the chairs he is such a wriggler, everthing is so exciting for him at the moment.
  13. This question has probably been answered a hundred times already but I havent come across the answer in my travels here so I will ask again. What is the sweepstakes class? The show I am looking at has a baby puppy sweepstakes class. My puppy will be 5 mths old so he is in the baby class, is the baby sweepstakes on after all of the baby classes are done? Im not sure if I enter it or not? Or is it for the winners of the babys in each breed or group? Also when Im filling in my entry forms: On the form itself it states Entered in Breed Class No.. do I write baby or a number 1 here? He goes up to Minor Puppy when he is 6 mths old counted by calendar mths is this right? So if his birthday is 19th Dec 2011, he will be in minor puppy after 19th June 2012? Do I need to write what group or does the show sec put them in their groups? I think they would do that but Im not sure if I need to write the number anywhere, it doesnt have a spot to write it.
  14. Ithink I am just over stressing about everything to do with showing at the moment! He has managed to snag it with his sharp puppy teeth once or twice. I smeared a tiny bit of vicks on it the other day and he hasnt touched it since then touch wood. It will be great to meet you on the 5th, it will be nice to see another familiar face when Rally Valley isnt around too. Its so silly how nervous I am about this, Im a grown woman for goodness sake!
  15. Ive not even given this any thought until I read this thread! Im going to put some kind of plan in place for my fur babys if anything were to happen to both me & hubby.
  16. I am in love with your baby Leo, he is gorgeous!
  17. Hi, I am brand new to the show ring. I have a 15 wk old Brittany pup, our first show is on the 5th May! Im going to a show handling training session this Thursday night which will help me to learn how to try standing my puppy hopefully. My question is I have bought a basic nylon show lead to learn with but I cant get my pup to stop trying to chew it, and being a super soft nylon it has already frayed and it looking a bit sad. Ive only put it on him a few times, is it normal to go through a lot of these? I am going to need to buy another one before our show I think, should I use one for training and another for the shows?
