  1. Hi guys, It's been awhile. Hope everyone is doing well. Caesar embarrasses me every time we go to the dog park. He likes to pee on EVERYTHING. When he sees another dog marking a spot, he rushes over and pees on it. He sees a water bowl, he pees inches away from it. Heck, he sometimes even pees on other dogs for good measure. It's probably because I don't allow him to mark at home so he just lets himself loose at the dog park, but still, super embarrassing.
  2. Thanks Leah82. I tried to make an appointment with them but they're booked out and will only be available next week. I kinda have to do it within the next couple of days as I'm selling my car this weekend.
  3. Hi guys, It's been awhile. Time flies when you're having fun and by the end of January, I'll be back in Singapore with Caesar! So I was wondering if anyone here can recommend a groomer who knows how to groom a cocker spaniel. For example, giving Caesar a "cocker cut". TIA Andrew
  4. $3.89 here So roughly how many necks come in a KG?
  5. I'm living in Malvern East, about 15 mins south east of Melbourne.
  6. I tried my local Coles but they only have chicken necks and only once in a blue moon. I don't usually go to Woolies, as I prefer to get petrol from Shell and Coles provide petrol discounts. LOL. I might go take a look at my nearest Woolies and hopefully they do carry it.
  7. Hi guys, I used to feed Caesar chicken necks but after seeing how he just swallows them whole, I've decided to stop. I've been snooping around the forum, casually reading and I realised many people feed their dogs turkey necks instead. I managed to get 1 for free from a butcher in QV market but he told me it's not easy to find turkey necks there. Caesar enjoys his turkey neck very much so I was wondering if anyone living around Melbourne knows where to get them? I live just SE of Melbourne but I don't mind driving 30-45 mins one way to get them. Thanks in advance. Andrew
  8. I'm driving up to the pinnacle tomorrow and I'm wondering if dogs are allowed up there. I hate laeving Caesar home alone all day.
  9. You can try ourpetworld.net Cheapest I've seen so far. It's based in Singapore so it'll take about 2 weeks to arrive. It's free shipping, but you can ask for registered mail if you want peace of mind. Got something from them once, went through customs no problem.
  10. +1 Toilet training should start now. When I got Caesar from his breeder, he is already paper trained. It makes it so much easier for me when I brought him home. Fake grass with newspapers lined underneath it, away from their sleeping and playing areas would be helpful.
  11. I was taking my usual route to school when I noticed a border collie wandering on the walkway. I ignored it and kept walking. It leaned in to sniff at me and grabbed my knee! Thank god I was wearing jeans and it couldn't get a grip on me. I shouted at it and backed away while eyeing it. It started scratching at a door and someone opened the door to allow it in. I went to school to check out the damage and realise it was worse than I thought. There were puncture wounds and bleeding . I called the council and they said a Ranger will go take a look. What will the Ranger do to the dog? I feel kinda bad now going straight to the council without speaking to the owner first.
  12. Caesar gets his nails cut every time I bathe him. He hates bathing and having his nails cut, so I reckon I'll just squeeze all his hated activities into one day. He can therefore be happy for 2-3 weeks, have the worst day of his life, and back to be happy for another 2-3 weeks.
  13. Hey guys, Have anyone tried the boarding mentioned above? I'll be flying off to Hobart for a week at the end of the year and I think I might be boarding Caesar during that time. Their pricing seems very reasonable, too good in fact. So I was just wondering if anyone has any dirt on them. I also welcome any recommendations around Malvern area + 1 hour drive radius. Thanks guys.
  14. Where abouts in VIC are you? I just joined the Dog Obedience Club in Knox and they seem very good, they're all about the quick reward system and finding out what works best for your dog. I'm located in Malvern East, Knox seem a little bit far but I really don't mind looking into it if they're really good.
  15. Thanks for all the replies. It does seem like Caesar is sick of being bullied and decides to fight back. I take the blame for not removing him from those situations as he seem to "enjoy" it. He always seem to go back for more when being knocked over by another dog. It's also very hard for me to tell off other dog owners as we have become really close friends when our puppies are playing together. I brought Caesar to the park today when I know there will be no dogs and he enjoyed himself with a game of fetch and stick chewing. Even when a couple of older dogs came in later, he played well with them. Maybe he now prefers the company of older dogs. I will be walking him more and start looking for obedience clubs we can join. Caesar is still a really good dog but it sucks to know that I ruined a part of him due to my negligence.
  16. Any suggestions what I should do?
  17. I am actually doing the NILIF program. For example, I always do a 10-20 second stay, make eye contact before touching his food process every meal. He doesn't mind me doing anything to him at home, he is a very good dog at home. The growling only happens outside. I don't usually bring a toy to the park but Caesar goes around stealing other dogs' ball and got snapped at quite a few times because of that. I decided to bring a ball to the park so he can play with his own ball instead but now other dogs try to steal him ball, a never ending cycle. I took his ball away and he finds himself a stick to chew on. Some other dogs will be interested in his stick and he guards it again. Here's a picture of Caesar holding his stick. I kept him entire till now because only one of his testicles has descended. I spoke to his breeder and a couple of vets and others, and most recommend waiting till he is about 1 year old to wait and see. Caesar's dad is also a "late bloomer". The reason why I didn't go for training classes is because I think he is doing really well so far. If the resource guarding escalates, I WILL definitely seek out professionals, but right now I just wanna know if what he is going through is normal.
  18. Hi guys, It's me again. Caesar is now 7 months old and I realise he is going through some "stuff" mentally recently. He is starting to "mark" when out on walks and growling when some other dogs get near whatever he is playing with in the park. He is usually a very gentle dog that rolls over for ANY other dogs in the park but today is different. It happened today when I brought him to an off leash park and started playing fetch with him. Another puppy (also 7 months old), who used to "bully" Caesar came over and tried to take his ball away from him. Caesar curled his lips and growled at him. First time this has happened. The other puppy continues to get in his face and Caesar did an air bite and a bark. The other puppy's owner cheered Caesar on and said it was about time he grew a pair. The other puppy backed off a little but came right back again. Not liking what I saw, I tried to take the ball away when the other puppy was also closing in, Caesar nearly got me. I was shocked. Caesar has never done that ever. He doesn't have any problem when I put my hand in his food bowl when he eats or when I take his half eaten bone away or toys away at home. Another lady who's really fond of Caesar was also shocked to see Caesar behave like that as Caesar has always been that really really gentle dog that loves everyone. What should I do? I'm definitely gonna observe him for a couple more days. Cheers P.S. Caesar is not desexed
  19. Like many others have suggested, try recording your dogs when you are away for a couple of days. It may not be your dogs barking after all.
  20. Thanks for all the replies. I bring Caesar out (weather permitting) twice a day. 2 hours after breakfast and 2 hours after lunch. He'll spend approximately an hour in the off leash park each time socialising and playing fetch. Today I recorded him again (for 2 hours) but left him a big juicy bone instead of a kong. He did not even notice I was gone until I return home. I hope he is doing alright because he does show signs of being paranoid when I'm preparing to leave and lays my socks and t-shirts and pants around the house when I'm not home sometimes. It just hurts me to see him staring out the window the whole time while I'm out. I might have to hide food around the house for him to sniff out.
  21. He doesn't really do that when I'm at home. I just thought he might use the alone time to sleep as I brought him out for a free run before I went out.
  22. Hi guys, Caesar is about 7 months old now and turning into an absolutely gorgeous dog. Anyway, I have always wondered what Caesar does when alone at home so I set up a camera to record for the whole duration while I'm away. I left him his Kong Wobbler with his lunch, some of his favourite toys, his bed and free roam to the apartment. When I returned and went through the video, it was very heartbreaking to see that he spends almost all his time looking out the window waiting for me to come home after he finish his lunch. He'll only leave the window to take a toilet break and go back to the window again. I asked my neighbours to see if he's been barking while I was away but they all said he did not make any noise. So I was wondering if he has separation anxiety and what I should do to keep him busy while I am away. Cheers
  23. I don't think siblings recognize each other. I got Caesar when he's 9 weeks old and brought him back to his breeder for a tidy up at about 4.5 months old. He met up with his sister and totally did not click or connect. His sister, being at home ground, keeps pushing and jumping on Caesar and Caesar's like, "screw this, I'm outta here". Caesar does enjoy the company of other dogs in the dog park though.
