on top of what PF has said, crate training sets a dog up for a lot of things. car trips, vet trips, even staying at a kennel I have been told my dogs are one of the best at the vets. the only time they cry or bark is when they need to goto the toilet, in the car they are no problems, and when they are at a kennel, they are a breeze. (i work in a kennel, my dogs just get told "goto bed" and they run to their kennels for the night ) my crates are set up in the spare room, right now one of the dogs is alseep next to me, the other has put herself to bed in her crate. I have 3 cats and 2 dogs, the dogs are outside during the day when i am at work, and inside when i am home. 2 of the cats get along with both dogs, the other is a kitten and one of my dogs is taking his time to get used to him, so they are apart if i cant watch them 100% i would never have my dogs outside at night, and both of them love their crates ETA i even tried to crate train the kitten - shit head could fit between the bars and kept getting out :D

i THINK the owner got the dog chipped at the RSPCA as a Staffy X or a Mastiff X (sorry, when he got the dog, the "breeder" told him it was one of those breeds, but the rspca then told him no, and chipped it as the other. I started a thread in here looking for someone to do a Breed ID - This is the same dog. I was just cleaning up and found this guys number, so if anyone has anything that can help, i can pass it on for you to ring.

Im amazed the ranger can dress himself, let alone be qualified to tell what breed is what. A ranger pulled me up with At one day, questioned me over his breeding and if i knew what i had on the end of the lead. Then made a comment about how bullys are like pittys, i smiled and told him yep, he is so right! both are great dogs and i would never be without a bully... He didnt know what to say to me

http://www.centralwesterndaily.com.au/news...on/1412243.aspx I was talking to the owner of this dog a few weeks ago. I also know the guy who wrote this, i should contact him and ask him to do something to promote these wonderful dogs *sigh*

Didnt even think of steve, i actually know him  Ok, just got off the phone to the guy. He has not been issued with a NOI yet, so i told him to sit back and wait and see, i have found out that they need to contact Dogs NSW for a breed ID, then go from there. He also said he knows both the dogs parents, and they are not pittys, I actually believe him, he kept saying how his dog isnt one of those horrible dogs, i explained to him what a pitty was, and he had no idea, he thought they were all bad dogs (its ok, his mind is changed now!) Told him to give me a ring if he needs anymore help. thanks!

Hi all, I need to find someone to assess a dog in NSW. As close to Orange as possible. Just wondering if anyone can give me some names and numbers? The owner of this dog rung me today and said they need to get their dog assessed (now, im not sure if it is ID, or Temp tested??), the rangers came around today or yesterday and told them they have to get rid of the dog. If you know anyone who can help can you please post in here, or PM me. It is pretty urgent. Also - the RSPCA are the ones the chipped this dog - they never said anything about it being a restricted breed, could this help the owners?? thanks Cin.

if it was frozen, and didnt smell funny, i would give it to my dogs.

no way i would waste that on dogs!! God i love silverside, we never have any left over
-
what about crating her, or putting her in the laundry or somewhere with the door shut, so she CANT get out and play till she has finished?
-
I have one like that, the other is now getting the same, cause if he doesnt finish, she tries to steal it! Atlas would graze all day before Kaos came into the house! As for food, i dont have a set amount, for my dogs or the dogs i care for (unless the owners say they want the dog fed EXACTLY this amount) I go by what the dog looks like, Atlas tends to put weight on, where Kaos loses it. SO if At is looking a bit tubby, i feed him 1/2 a cup not 1 cup, if kaos is looking skinny, i feed her more then normal.
-
That is my girl She gets UTIs all the time, When she is kenneled at work the girls know she has to get out first before anyone else, and put away last at night, she will NOT pee in her run and usually ends up with a bit of a uti. She got the worse one when i drove back from WA with her the way there was ok, i had places to stay on all nights that had a place for her to run, she wont pee on a lead. On the way home the only place i found that could have her off lead, was at Ezas, i noticed there she was peeing a lot, but she had also spent a long time playing with the hose (and spewing on me, thanks ian! ) When we got home she was up every 30 mins to pee, and she screamed in pain, and only a dribble would come out :D and yep. what IR said I have kaos on cranberry tablets before she goes into the kennel, idont do it when she is at home as she can go out as she pleases, but always have her on it if she goes elsewhere! I think someone also told me to try ural (is that what it is called??) and it can help as well Good luck!!

when a claw is removed? yes, and bandaged for some time as well. I dont think i have a before photo of Atlas, but i can post an after one later on tonight His dad ripped his claw out yesterday  his is almost all out, so fingers crossed it just falls off and causes no problems like Ats did

How To Get A Staffy Pup To Rest A Torn Muscle
Teebs replied to Timrigg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
In which case TB, you'd probably have to consider mild sedation. If a dog needs to rest to heal, then you do what you must. But, yes, a metal mesh crate would be the way to go here. I was actually going to say that, but i didnt want people to think i drug my dogs I did do that for Atlas when he did his dew claw from time to time, when he got restless, i couldnt even give him a bone as he had a bucket and couldnt use his front feet worst 3 weeks he has ever been through! -

Crate, as said above saying that... there is no way i could rest my almost 4 year old staffy bitch, she would go mad being crated for a long period of time! -
