  1. i agree with the chain lead! with a clip to attach to collar not a choke chain. We have a 12 week old ridgie and we started using this lead from when we got him at 8 weeks. Have now moved onto a regular nylon lead and he doesnt bite it at all. Even though he is crazy and bites everything he can lol
  2. This is awful!! we were going to take our pup their on Sunday. glad we opted for the park. Poor owners of the dog that was murdered!! hope they find the horrible man who just left, can tell by his actions he doesn't care about dogs if he could let his do that and walk away! I'd be distraught if my dog did that to another!!!, I had a mastiff X come running over a good distance to my pup who was on lead, i was definately freaked out. he turned out to be the biggest softy but my heart skipped a beat! We put so much trust in other people controlling their offlead dogs and them being friendly, this is so sad.
  3. aww he's so lovely! love this pic he looks so majestic and proud, keeping an eye on everything! having a blast with his friends! and him and the cat!! LOL so cute i hope Kobie gets to that stage with bunnys. so looking forward to meeting you guys :)
  4. Thanks for everyones help, will try the glycerine! Thanks for the link for taping I will definately be taping if it doesn't correct! as i know it doesn't hurt them, will discuss with breeder her reasons why she wouldn't tape.
  5. My boyfriend loves it too..... I HATE IT. it bothers me lol. Thats what the breeder says not to worry about it, i think it was a doberman forum i read about the taping method! i will def be taping it if it doesn't correct by next week. She also said to up his yoghurt to double and see if that helps, i massage it constantly which helps alot! and he loves his ear massages :p
  6. Yeah he's going to be a showdog, his first show is 2nd of march! ive been massaging it helps alot, if it hasn't improved by next week i'll discuss taping with breeder, she wasn't keen, but i'd rather do that than have an ear that's flying constantly! AHH yeah thats what i dont want though still gorgeous!! how old was she when it started happening?? i heard anything after 4 months is too old to correct the problem??
  7. Hello! So i need help from anyone who can give it to me, My ridgeback, Kobie has developed a wonky ear, i call it his staffy ear It started a couple of days ago, His left ear sticks up more than the right, i have searched the internet about this and found it to be called a nun ear?? It might not be that i'm not sure! It stays like this pretty much all the time, unless i massage it and it flops to frame his face again but this only lasts for a little while then it sticks back up I've spoke to his breeder and she says she's never had this happen to any previous litters or her ridgies, she asked me if he'd been stung by something. He definately hasn't and he let's me touch his ear without a whine or yelp, and inside his ear's are fine, i read that it occasionally happens to pups who are teething, and it's because the body needs more calcium? but he get's his blackhawk biccys which have 1.45%, Morning and afternoon with natural yoghurt, then his beef/roo mince with carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, split pea at night! also he gets chicken necks a few times a week! I thought it may be because hes chewing alot and its strenghtening the cartilidge in his ear too much! I seen videos on taping ridgebacks ears but i don't really want to do that unless the other one starts or this one gets worse! maybe something to weigh the ear down? Oh and i'm planning on showing him so this needs to be corrected if possible as its not suitable for the ring. here is pics!! TOP VIEW OF KOBIES LEFT 'WONKY' EAR!! THIS IS HIS EARS SITTING CORRECT AFTER A MASSAGE. LOL
  8. We've had him two weeks and he's grown so fast already!! love him to bits! he is so clever and doing well at his two puppy classes! Conformation classes start in a few weeks then hopefully he'll have his first experience of the show ring at the beginning of march
  9. My friend back home in Scotland has two standards!! they are gorgeous, Tia and Milo!!! Total menaces don't know how she handles two!
  10. Aw i see him in the pic! too cute so is your doggys, but oooh your ragdoll is just gorgeous!! what colouring is that? chocolate mitted bicolor? I had some improvement today, i let the bunnys hop about on the floor while Kobie was sleeping beside me on the sofa (can't resist his puppy dog eyes) after a wee while Kobie woke up and was lying down watching them binky and smell all his toys, and Cheech hopped onto sofa came straight over and then Kobie give him licks on his head! it was the cutest thing, (maybe tasting him?)Cheech obviously didn't like Kobies dog breath and hopped off! Don't know whether Kobies half asleep state helped this meeting as normally he's too hyper for them to want to come over! Guessing it just takes time like most things and gradually they will be mates! (hopefully) I don't think we'll have a problem with Kobie turning his back on them! he's all over them, far too excited when he sees them hopping. Obviously thats his instinct! This was my concern as obviously he's a hound, so will take more time, although most dogs learn to know the difference between wild and family, my old lab certainly did, she would chase wild rabbits, but at home would do nothing even if they started to run or binky! It's sad that this happens, i've seen some awful videos on youtube of people 'introducing' their new puppy or dog to a rabbit and its just plain cruelty, letting the puppys chase them and paw them and bite their ears, no wonder pet rabbits get killed by pet dogs of the same household!
  11. Thanks for everyone's advice!! I will take everything on board, have been practising today a few times! If he sits i normally just move the treat forward and then he stands and i reward him and say 'stand'' he's quite good at holding it also! only if theirs still a treat to be had!! I think for now i'll not encourage sit and not practise it with him, and concentrate on stand and when he fully understands stand i'll move on to sit :p He def will not be a robot in the ring! he has far too much personality (or NAUGHTYNESS), even if it means embaressing me! I'm glad about the puppy classes!
  12. Hello, so we picked up our RR last friday, and after going to a dog show with his breeder and discussing it with her we have decided to give showing a go!! His conformation classes start on the 7th of feb, but silly me has taught him to sit and lie down.. just off phone to breeder and she's like your meant to teach him to stand!! anyway hav been practising and hes getting there, any more tips on the stack? I have been rewarding him when he stands and then again when he holds the stand, its difficult though as he always wants to sit silly me!! ALSO. Puppy schools starts next week and they'll want him to sit!? so can i ask them if we can practise stand instead? or can i carry on with the sit and face him sitting in his conformation classes <
  13. Thanks that link is really useful info!! think ill continue to let them sniff through bars and him on leash! till hes trained a bit better! that's brill and what im aiming for, my lab used to be the same so gentle she used to let them hop on her and even dig her side, just looking at them as if to say 'your crazyyy'
  14. Hello, So we have two gorgeous mini lop house bunnys, litter trained and so in love with eachother Cheech(Sable colour) - the boy and our first addition to our little family - he is very sooky, loves to lie on the sofa beside us and generally get fussed over!! Suki(Japenese Harlequin) - the girl, (also desexed) we bought her about two months after Cheech once he'd been desexed, She is gorgeous!! but has taken longer to come out of her shell, probably due to the fact that she has Cheech so she didn't need to bother with us wheras Cheech was the only pet to start with so we were his only buddys. She now comes over for pats, and jumps on the sofa when theirs food about! ANYWAY... then we have our new puppy Kobie, we have introduced them behind their cage and whilst they have been free-roaming but he is on his lead! he gets a bit excited and wants to play (of course) but Cheech is not phased by this and continues to sit with us on the sofa even going to the edge to sniff Kobie's nose. However Suki being more scared runs away and Kobie being a ridgeback or any dog wants to chase her! He is never offlead when their out and they will never be unsupervised even IF he ignores them like my old dog back home used to do with our old pet bunnys, but she was a lab and very laid back, letting them hop all over. So has anyone been through this that has any other tips for me? or am i doing okay
  15. Ah if it wasn't on weekends durings day it would have been perfect, as sometimes i have to work weekends! Yes pawprints does look good, thanks for the link i've facebooked them and hopefully they get back to me :D
  16. Wow!! what a skill you have, such amazing pictures!
  17. I emailed pawprints about puppy enrollment at wanneroo vet hospital starting next wed! but haven't heard back! where do you work? do they have puppy classes on just now? most places i phoned were fully booked for night classes which is what im after stupid vet cancelling on me!! i find it hard to believe that the class didn't have enough enrollees for the whole course as most places are fully booked!! and the list i put my name on had about 15 names on it. grrr
  18. Ahh its called secret life of the dog, by the BBC, its on youtube, or here http://topdocumentar...ecret-life-dog/, they also discover that dogs have learned to interact with people and even when looking at pictures of people dogs always look at the left?(or right lol) side of our face to read our emotions but when shown a picture or other dog they don't read dogs the same way anyway its very interesting to watch :)
  19. I also feel sorry for the foxes don't really see the need for the experiment, but it was an interesting watch, still disgusting seeing them in their tiny cages with wire bottoms
  20. Hey, just wondered if anyone else has seen the documentary about dogs that contains the fox breeding? They bred from foxes and picked out the most non aggressive to re-breed from and then also bred from the most aggresive, over afifty year period they continued to breed like this from the cubs, until eventually they showed you the difference, the non aggressive turned into more dog-like foxes basically even their markings changed they got white streaks down their snout, tails shortened, ears went floppy, they wagged tails, loved human company wheras the aggressive stayed like wild foxes couldnt be touched etc hated the sight of humans! I cant remember the name of it but its a recent docu, thought it was very interesting and wondered if anyone had seen it? :) FOUND A LINK HERE
  21. The convo went a bit like this a couple of months ago as i hadn't researched about vaccs and titres before my breeder mentioned it, i was just phoning for prices etc. so i called the vet i took my rabbits to and they said a 12 week and 16 week, (they knew he had his first shot at breeders) i then phoned another vets close by and they said they didn't do a 16 week vacc as titre testing in adults has proved most puppies get all they need from the second vacc that they give. I think thats what i should have wrote it like but i was in a hurry writing post lol don't know if that makes that certain vet any more informed or not, I'd say not after them wanting to give my pup a 9 week vacc and then a 12 wk after hes had a 7 week vacc already.
  22. yeah i thought that, silly vets! so glad ive found a vet that does this vacc and she agreed that the vets asst i phoned earlier didn't sound very well informed. Oh thats good! def think we'll be going down the titer route also after reading so much about it :) Ah okay we've been taking him to friends house's, hes yet to meet my bestys golden retriever! so that'll be happening soon, hopefully he doesnt chew her ears off! we have an open front garden and weve been taking him out there to piddle and occasionally a car goes past he was scared at first but now he doesnt even acknowledge them though one car is a bit different to being beside a busy road!! small steps :) i dont think Kobie would fit in a backpack but might get my boyfriend to carry him lol my arms would be dead after 5 minutes! Thanks everyone for the brill advice
  23. OOPS. i havent worked out how to quote so 6 weeks - protech c3 This schedule is following the nobivac reccomendation for a fully vac'd puppy by 12 weeks. If you like you can add an intra-nasal kennel couugh which is a one off vaccine. We then vaccinate 12 months from the date of the nobivac with the nobivac 3 year vaccine ahh this is the one that this vet was speaking about!! i like the idea of this!! wooo walkies at 12 wks sorry getting carried away!!
  24. Okay have just phoned another local vet and they say they give a 10/12 week vacc and that will be his final one and they do a through the nose kennel cough?? they also use the same brand vacc the breeder has given
  25. oh yeah i know this, i mean after the booster at a year the breeder says we can titer test or continue the yearly vaccs. i meant the women to start with said he'd only need a 12 week not this 9 week one because they dont believe puppies need it after titer studies. So a 7 week and a 12 week! but then maybe a 16 week because the posts above have got me thinking? my breeder is very into herbal medicines and all other natural stuff which i agree with to an extent but obviously want to make sure he gets the right vaccs at right time, she says he only needs another at 12 weeks then a booster at a year
