My dad has started on the human version BC Crazy after months of having a container of the capsules in the cupboard and feeding Ness her powder every day while she was living with him - he said he is doing much better with it.

I wouldn't think you would need anything more then a light waterproof coat for a BC out in the elements. I was looking at the Hurtta waterproof ones without the lining.
-
Hence why I opted for the mesh ones BC Crazy. Same therapeutic benefits without the risk of them overheating.
-
Worth checking out these ones BC Crazy - https://www.backontr.../195/dog-rugs/. Mine sleep in the mesh version when its cold. They keep them warm without being to warm.

Are you on the Agility Australia yahoo group TSD?? Apparently there is something in the files there regarding the workshops. -
I was told the Wound Wear A Trac was the brace to get by a top canine rehab person in the states if we were going to go down the conservative management path but ended up opting for surgery instead.

The human version is the same as the canine version just ground a little finer. Apparently you can also use the equine version which might prove more cost effective but it does contain 2% molasses.

Good news BC Crazy :).

Alternative Options For Ageing, Arthritic Dog
ness replied to Little Gifts's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Not very product works for every dog Maddy just as not every product works for every human. Hopefully you have since found something which helps your dog. Having tried everything else for my girl I was certainly in the skeptic category for it actually making any difference and even with my very broken dog it certainly helped. Here is another favorable review: http://leemakennels.com/blog/dog-biology/dog-health/product-review-rose-hip-vital-canine/ -
Alternative Options For Ageing, Arthritic Dog

Yes it was the scientific literature and testing that was carried out on the product to receive its certification was what made me consider it along with having tried just about everything else on the market but still having a young dog with significant issues. My oldie (was 12 years at the time she started) had some front end arthritis issues with her wrists and was starting to slow down considerably. Within a few months of starting on the RHVC she was back out competing in tracking and finished off her TD title. No sign of limping or any lameness. People struggle to believe she is now nearly 14 and a little over 7 months post cruciate surgery and still happy to have 3 reasonable walks a day. She is not yet in need of any more heavy duty anti-inflams or other pain meds. i have shared this video elsewhere on this forum but here it is - I should also say at the time of her cruciate surgery she had x-rays taken and the specialist was most impressed with the lack of arthritic changes in a dog of her age who had been as heavily involved with dog sport (agility and obedience mostly) for many years. Ness had at the time of surgery been on the RHVC about 7 months. -
Nice work Ptolomy and the gorgeous Brookie .

I have the mesh version of the back on track coats for mine. https://www.backontr...f/195/dog-rugs/ My oldie (nearly 14 year old BC) isn't really a coat dog but when she wakes up having worn her jacket overnight she is much more spritely. She is still very much active even having had a cruciate repair surgery at the end of last year. I have also had good luck with adding fish oil capsules and using the rose-hip vital canine supplement. http://rosehipvitalcanine.com.au/ Both my two had tried just about every other joint supplement and when I switched them both to the rose-hip vital canine I saw significant improvements. Acupuncture is also worth considering if you have access to somewhere. -
Training A Dog That Is Too Treat Focused ?

NRM = no reward marker BC Crazy. -
So sorry to read Dave . Hopefully somebody can give you some answers and fix whatever is going on.
-
I would prevent/limit access if the dog is likely to undertake destructive behaviors. Tether in a room where you are or ideally crate. Redirect the dog if it starts to behave inappropriately.

Badbee - hopefully Steve can help you but like others have already mentioned in the meantime try and manage and avoid any chances Abby has to demonstrate or rehearse any of that reactivity. If that means having her on "house arrest" and avoiding all unnecessary outings so be it. I certainly would be mindful of attempting anything in the way of desensitizing if you don't know what your doing. All the best and wish you every success in overcoming the problem.

Borderhoover - I will send you Ness BC Crazy. At nearly 14 she is still a well tuned Borderhoover . Sorry nothing constructive to add but its an awesome problem to have. Certainly made training so much a piece of cake. -
SA in 2016.

Kenz went up on the stage with him as the only BC in the building yesterday. Couldn't get her there on Saturday was to busy. He asked how old she was and what sort of activities we participated in then she had to demo leg weaving.

Audacity is what I use for editing. -
FalconRange - I normally take my girls to Dr Matthew Condon (http://www.chiropet....au/contact.html) when they are lame in the first instance. When Ness did her cruciate last year I was pretty sure she had ruptured it but he confirmed it for me. He will give you a referral to a specialist if needed. I don't normally take either of mine to a standard vet for lameness issues. Dr Scott Rose at SA Vet (http://www.savet.com.au/www/home/) did Ness's repair although we only went for a traditional repair based on her age and she has come through with flying colours so I would highly recommend him and the practice. Although Ness is 13 and a half now she is sound and able to do everything she was doing before at 6 months post surgery (although obviously she isn't back to performance sports). The most common repair for an active dog is a TPLO and lots of active breeds do end up back doing agility and obedience. Any other questions happy to answer here or via PM.

Has anybody got any links to good novice heelwork to music routines - heaven forbid I thought I might actually plan a routine for a change . I find HTM a little bit more of a challenge to plan then I do a freestyle routine and would love some ideas. -
Good luck with Sonny BC Crazy - fingers crossed the RHVC helps and Sonny can live a happy and pain free life .

I don't think an MRI is value for money if you are going to have to go ahead and do something anyway. Scoping the joint is a possibility as at least they can diagnose and treat the condition at the same time. Have you been offered the option of a cortisone injection? They can apparently do that once to see if it helps resolve things but you then need to rest the dog for a significant length of time.
