  1. Not just letting the others know that its her property? I know with cats, when they rub their faces on things its to mark a scent..... but I'm not sure dogs have scenting pores on their sides! LOL
  2. I have a 13 year old Dalmatian, Its been the last 12 months or so that he has really slowed down. Now he pretty much sleeps all the time, and is a bit cranky with the new puppy I have just bought home. The old boy has a couch in the man-cave... and all his food and water there as well. So he pretty much sleeps the day away while he waits for my Husband to come home from work and I keep the puppy away so not to stress him too much.
  3. I have our side yard fenced off as a secure puppy area for our new Dalmatian. It has Artificial Grass ( we have a business installing & selling it) all installed there, and cement paths. It is edged one side by the house, the other side is an 8ft colourbond fence. The front fence has a 5" thick concrete path running past it... and the back fence is set into rock hard dirt, both gates that access the area are padlocked to stop accidentally letting the pup out. So far its very secure, and plenty of room for him to play and chase. Our big back yard is secure as well, but I wanted him safe in that area when I can't be home. 98% of the time he is at my feet, following me everywhere I go though.
  4. I am feeding raw as per my breeders recommendations. She gave me a "menu" if you like of what should be in this concoction, its working well for us right now... But I know what yo mean about a meat filled swimming pool.... Dalmatians are very good at acting as if they are starved!
  5. LOL is it bad that I am far more impressed by the lack of toileting inside the house than the sleep? He has pretty much just followed me around since he came home... so If I am inside, he is in with me etc. But yes ... far more impressed not having to clean up wee inside ;) PS Luvsdogs, I adore your little bundle of fluff, just gorgeous. I can't tell you anymore how cute all the puppies are, or you will all know I have been quietly stalking you all in here for months
  6. I Guess I had better drop in and say Hello! I picked up my Dalmatian Pup on Saturday He is so lovely, and well behaved.... so far LOL We haven't had any toileting accidents inside as yet, all toileting is done outside in the area I want him to use and he is getting the hang of weeing on command. The first night we had him home he cried a little at 1am, but last night he slept through from 9.30 til 6.30 this morning! Here is a little photo of him with my Son Malakai, they are becoming great mates! Looking forward to chatting with you all!
  7. Well.... I picked up my baby today! He is absolutely gorgeous. We haven't had any accidents inside, but 3 wees & 4 poos outside exactly where I want him to toilet! He also just curls up and sleeps as soon as I put him in his crate, and haven't needed to zip up the door yet, because he just lays and sleeps.... as soon as he wakes up I take him outside for a wee. Right now he has been sleeping peacefully in his crate for about 2 hours, Just too well behaved I guess the puppy behaviour will start soon! His name is Sir. Benjamin Braveheart, but we have been calling him Benji and he is already coming to his new name... Although I suspect right now its the excited voice and cuddles that are getting him to come, but its a start! Here he is with my Son Malakai. Benji is my dog on principle, but I don't mind sharing with the family my son has Autism, and is especially close to our old Dally Buddy. Buddy is now 13 and very arthritic and slow, so we thought we would Get another Dalmatian so that Malakai isn't left without a dog.
  8. my baby comes home in 12 days! I have been today to visit and choose which pup I wanted, he is So Cute! now for the hardest part of all... counting the days!
  9. I just heard from my breeder and my puppy was born on Saturday morning!!!!! Yippee I am so so so excited!
  10. There can't be that many Visla breeders in Australia can there? Are you able to send out an email alerting the breeders to her name and NOT to sell to her? You might not convince her not to get one.... but it will be hard if no breeders will sell to her
  11. I made it to the show this morning, and saw a couple of Dalmations... one was a gorgeous Boy and smiling away :D Very cute! Also saw gorgeous Westies, Whippets, Greyhounds and German Shepherds. Oh and the most beautiful Bernese Mountain dog.. LOL it was a busy morning!
  12. I don't think we have ever been refused a pat of a dog which we have asked if the kids can pat. I think in general, most owners and dogs are pretty easy to get on with if you use your manners and approach carefully and ask politely if the child can pat the dog. In turn, it teaches the child not only basic manners, but also to allow the dog time to have a sniff of an outstretched hand before a gentle stroke on their heads. I am sure I will come across alot of charging children soon when my new Dalmatian comes  I will put on my "Don't f*** with me face" that works to keep most people away! LOL LOL
  13. oh thats too early for me, I have to get kids off to school and stuff. I will try to get there a bit later in the day... there might be some still hanging around if I am very lucky!
  14. So, if I wanted to come on Wednesday to see the Dalmatians.... What time would I need to be there?
  15. I'm reading all thi thinking just WTF?? I have 5 kids and every single one of them has been taught from the very beginning that they are to ask permission from the owner BEFORE they attempt to pat a dog we don't know.. Never mind the fact that its basic good manners.... It also saves the kids getting bitten and the dog being stressed. However there are a lot of things in the world today that make me stand back and say WTF in general, the more I see of people the more I like my pets!
  16. It would never even cross my mind to quibble over the price of a pure bred Pup. I am a strong believer in "You Get what you pay for" If you put in your research, and find a breeder who will raise your pup to the very best of their ability then that healthy pup is worth the price the breeder asks. I have a pair of Ragdoll cats here, they were the first pedigreed animal I had from babyhood ( our Dalmatian was a rescue from the RSPCA when he was 4, so I don't know who his breeder is) and I have an ongoing relationship with the breeder of my cats, the cats are absolutely breed typical, and I am looking forward to taking care of our new Dally pup in a few months and having the same ongoing relationship with his breeder.
  17. Thanks! I just requested to be added to the FB page, it will be so nice to see lots of lovely Dallys pop up on my home page. I really don't have any desire to breed.... at all. Any animals who come to live in my home are desexed as soon as possible, I would prefer to let others make me beautiful animals  so I think you are very brave! Although the lure of having kittens and puppies underfoot a few times a year is kind of cool in the abstract.... I might just book a flight and come cuddle yours! LOL Do you have Black & white spotted or Liver? I only liked the black spots, but am finding myself sort of drawn to the liver spots now as well, who knows? in a year or two I might find myself with one of each ;)
  18. *Groan* don't tell me Dallies are like Potato chips..... I have Ragdoll cats too, apparantley they are like potato chips too! Hence now I have a pair! LMAO It will be fun being Dally cousins, The mother belongs to the breeder and she imported semen from NZ so I am thinking there is a fair chance of our babies being related. I was looking through Gumtree here in Adelaide the other night and there are 2 pure bred dallies in there looking for homes one is only 10 months old! I mentioned it to my husband and his reply? " Why don't you go get it then?" That was not a helpful response!! LOL We still have our old boy and while absolutely no bother at all, I think one old man and one baby man might be enough for the time being! Although... I'm not promising that I won't go for a second when the old boy goes to the rainbow bridge ;) Just tried to add a photo of Buddy, but it was HUGE! LOL thought better of it ;)
  19. I am hoping, fingers crossed and all ;) for Jazzanda here in SA. The breeder is only about 20 minutes drive from where I live, and having had a few email chats & phone chats she is lovely. She said in the last email that the bitch ( I feel so mean calling her that! LOL) will be scanned at 4-5 weeks after mating to see if it took, we are heading into week 5 so hopefully there is a little black spotted boy in there for me! I have a little boy with Autism who is very, very close to our present Dalmatian, who we rescued from the RSPCA when he was about 4 years old. His original owners didn't realise a Dally would grow too big for their courtyard home?!?!?!?! So we picked him up, with beautiful manners and a gorgeous temprament to boot. He is such a Gentleman, NEVER has snapped or growled... and is my little boys shadow. He is now nearing 12-13 years old and slowing right down, the hips are starting to get stiff and shoulders are getting a bit wobbly. So we made the decision to get another Dalmatian, Sticking with what we know as such :D I am really hoping that once all the cute puppy silliness gets out the way we end up with another beautiful dog for our family. Sorry for the essay ;) LOL
  20. Ok.... I won't get one there either! It was just a thought! ;-)
  21. I think its time for me to say hello! I am waiting on confirmation of a Dalmatian who was mated about 4 weeks ago, the breeder will take her for an US to check it worked sometime over the next week or so. I am so excited! We already have a Dalmatian who is around 12 years old now, perfect gentleman and never been an ounce of bother. So we thought we would stick with what we know  I have plans of taking my new baby to the puppy preschool at the vet about 5 minutes walk from home, then to some obedience classes as well. I also have 2 indoor Ragdoll cats and 5 kids..... oh and a beautiful husband! I have been reading along here for a month or so, and thought perhaps it was time to make myself known. I have a name picked out for my new baby, and a disc with his name and my phone number.... and a beautiful red leather collar for him, but thats as far as I have gotten with puppy purchases!
  22. If you would like something really special and handmade take a look at www.etsy.com there are some magnificent artisans on there..... I am sure you would find what you are looking for!
  23. My Husband & I have a business selling and installing Artificial Grass! I would suggest that in a yard that size it might not be appropriate for an area where the dog has no choice but to wee and poo on it, as it does get smelly. You are able to scoop the solids and hose, but there isn't really a choice for the dog to go anywhere else. We have had issues ( with another company) selling artificial grass to a person with dogs, and my husband had to rip it up and replace it.... he said the smell was horrific!
