  1. OMG Tank just launched off the couch and jarred one of his legs up. He was limping around for a bit. He didn't whimper or cry and he didn't yelp. He seems to be over it now but OMG I panicked! Called the breeder and she said he sounds like he's fine just watch him and check again in morning. Called a vet and they said same thing. Was so worried he'd hurt his leg/spine. Crazy dog.
  2. Honestly, I'd put the pee pad further away so as not to confuse the "living area" and "toileting area", especially when you're home to take him to his toilet place. Really? So maybe for when we're home have the pad in the bathroom? And we just take him there the whole time for toilet? Can I still leave one in the pen for if we're not home? Will he make the connection between what he's peed/pood on in the bathroom with the one in the pen?
  3. I live in an apartment so I don't have a space for him outside. I've got his pen set up with his pad in one corner, his food away from it in another corner and in another corner is where his crate goes during the day. I guess I'll just keep trying... :)
  4. Ok so last night we fed him around 7pm. He didn't go toilet at all (a little wee in the wrong spot as usual - he is NOT learning the puppy pad thing...). We went to bed at around 10pm and I put him in his crate and he woke me up (just moving around and stuff) at around 1:30am so I got up and took him to his pee pad and he did nothing. Went back to crate all fine and then he just slept in there until about 6:30am when I let him out. He didn't toilet until around 7am. A big wee and a little poo and then when I closed the gate to his pen while I showered he got a bit stressed and did a big poo not on his pad (of course!). Seems like he holds the whole night which I think is weird for a puppy especially has he eats and drinks before bed. He's a pretty good boy I think. Just is not picking up that I like him to go toilet in one spot. Not sure what else I can do.
  5. My friend has a fully vaccinated 2yo Frenchie. Do you guys think it would be okay for Tank to meet him this weekend? Tank will be 10 weeks on Sunday.
  6. I'm a really light sleeper so maybe I don't need the alarm but the flipside of that is I wake up whenever he wakes up so even if he's just having a break from sleeping and not needing to be let out, I still wake up
  7. My suggestion would be to make the crate smaller if you have to by dividing off a section big enough for Tank to sleep but not to pee or poo. If he is near your bed he should start making a fuss when he needs to go to the toilet then you can take him. I didnt set any alarms to wake up at any specific times, i just let him wake me up (i am a light sleeper). If you fed him a late dinner this will probably push back the time that he would go to the toilet. If you want him to go earlier then feed him a little bit earlier. Okay cool - I have the barrier in his crate - it's the smallest one you can get from Pet Barn I think and I have the barrier set up which sections off between 1/3 and 1/4 of the crate. He can fit in stretched out so I'm pretty confident he thinks of the whole space as his bed and not somewhere he wants to be pooping! I'll try a 2am alarm tonight and see how it goes.
  8. Question... I'm nervous that Tank will pee or poo in his crate so every time I wake up and see him awake I quickly run him to his pee pad. He didn't go at all last night when I wanted him to. Instead he peed on the floor (only a tiny amount) on the walk back to the bedroom  Also, he had dinner last night around 8pm and he ATE. But he didn't poo and I watched him and waited for the sniffing for like an hour. That's why I was a bit nervous last night I think - he still hasn't gone poo at 6:45am as I write this. Des this sometimes happen? And should i start waking up at say only 2am and risk him having an accident? I'm sure he will wake me with a whimper or lots of movement though if he needs to go before/after 2am.
  9. I might make a trip to bunnings. Otherwise the legs and shelves of this desk will be chewed until it falls on him
  10. Thanks! I figured we will need confinement. *sigh* more Frenchie death wails. He lives in my study which has my desk in it. I'm thinking or wrapping the legs of the desk in blankets - he likes climbing onto the little shelves so I don't want to block the desk off completely because it kind of keeps amused when I put him away. I have a puppy Kong - how do I block the hole - it seems like it would be way too easy for his little kibble to get out.
  11. Hi guys Tank has decided to chew anything and everything. I think this is maybe a little my fault because has a lot of toys and he chews them. But, when he hasn't got a toy in his mouth, he wants to chew the bed, the desk, the couch, the pillows... How do I 'punish' him and stop him from chewing things that shouldn't be chewed. I get him by his face (gently) and look in his eyes and say no, but I worry that he thinks I'm playing with him. I also try to go and grab something I want him to chew - eg he loves the toilet rolls and I put some kibble in a Kong bone thing. Any ideas? Or is this just a phase I have to deal with? Thanks Ash :)
  12. He's 9 weeks yesterday. I just endured 11 minutes of Frenchie squealing. Holy God that sound is something else. He's settled down to sleep. Pen training makes crate training seem like a walk in the park.
  13. Good to hear that you feel a bit more comfortable - I'm sure he'll perk up for you! Re Tank's worming - it is a tablet. I think I need to buy some low value treats / start using his normal food more. I've gone a bit wild with those expensive treats I ordered BUT... He sits for his treats now Hence how I managed the get this photo... I will feed him his tablet tomorrow. I'll try it as a treat on its own followed with a usual treat. :)
  14. I think my vet is a nice guy. He gave me Tank's worming tablet for free. He is due to have it tomorrow so I went and saw the vet today (whilst out Tank was at home alone). Now the trick will be getting him to eat it. Should I coat the tablet in peanut butter / Vegemite / yogurt?
  15. The toy thing is pretty important I think. When Tank gets a bit frustrated in his crate, he plays with a cardboard toilet roll and there is also one of his favorite soft toys in there. Plus he has the SnugglePuppie which he just lounges all over. He's currently chilling out in his crate watching me do a university assignment.
  16. My friend (dog specialist in NZ) said we were doing the right thing putting him in his pen and ignoring his cries. I don't think it makes them hate it unless your using it as punishment. I think Tank is pretty good at settling himself down. I'm about to leave the house to go and get some working tablets from the vet (I don't want to take him around sick dogs just yet especially as he's been out and about every day since Saturday). So hopefully he stays asleep but I will leave tv on. Don't feel bad when they cry - if you sit and watch them or give them attention I think this would give them the wrong idea.
  17. I think it's just patience. Tank is not peeing where I want him to at all. Pretty much everywhere but on his puppy toilet pads! I'm just being patient, not telling him off when he pees in the wrong spot and when he does go toilet on his pad once every five pees, give him a rub and a treat. I'm sure your pup will settle in! Just be patient and don't show him any stress if you are stressing! I think my boy relaxes because I'm relaxed with him. ---- I just got home from being out with him and popped him in his room/pen. He went to his crate and watched me close the gate. He got up and came to the gate and I was sure we were about to have a Frenchie death squeal moment but he just looked at me for s bit and trotted back to his crate. He is asleep on his snugglepuppie now. Hopefully this is a success!!!!!!
  18. I crated my boy the first night all closed up. But he's one of those freak pups that loves his crate I think/hope. I did praise him when he was exploring earlier in the day and treat him etc
  19. We were sitting having coffee and he was snuggled against me. He wasn't cold. Because he's a Frenchie, I'd prefer for him to deal with it and especially learn how to regulate his own temperature.
  20. A lady on the street told me I should buy a jacket for Tank. Are they really necessary? Or is this just a human issue?
  21. Omg Tank had a tantrum and a half when I put him in his pen for timeout this morning. He's asleep now quivering a little. I know I did the right thing just ignoring him and going about my business but damn that Frenchie squeal is horrific! I think I'll leave the tv and radio on when he's alone from now on. Just any noise to relax him :)
  22. Tank doesn't drink much either but he's a little wee fountain everywhere except his pads normally. This bloody cushion/bed/pillow thing I bought is being washed AGAIN
  23. That's great re the crate! :) I've ind of turned the other puppy thread in to a running account of my experiences lol
  24. Not a peep out of Tank tonight. Got in his crate at 9:30 and has been snoozing away since. He woke up around 1:30am so I got him up but no pee. I think I'm more restless than he is! He is completely unbothered! hopefully I can start relaxing and sleeping properly too in the next couple of nights.
