  1. Hey Lisa, where did you get your clam shell from? I liked that it had the flat base... I think Big W have the same one, but our local store doesn't have any yet... Hopefully now it's getting warmer they'll get one in soon!
  2. It's annoying when they don't seem to care! that's great your dad was able to fix the lock so easily though. Might be worth putting on a steering lock as a deterrent? Though with any luck a taste of Treble means they won't be back in a hurry. I was singing while I made dinner the other night and Nixon was trying to have a nap - he just looked at me and groaned :)
  3. It's strange how dogs just seem to sense evil intent... We had someone try to break through our side gate when I was younger, and I'd never ever heard our dog bark like she did then - it was immediately clear something was very wrong. It clearly scared the intruder too, who then spent the next half hour hiding in bushes in our front yard. Unfortunately they were gone before the police got there though. Did you report what happened Lhok?
  4. Oh no!!!! That is exactly why we kept up fortnightly worming until recently... Apparently there isn't a negative to extra worming apart from the extra expense (according to my vet), so go to town if you feel like it :) I'd worm again in a week I think!
  5. I think Nixon was actually prety happy in this picture, but I've always thought of it as his 'grumpy old man' face :)
  6. p.s. I agree re talking poo when you have a puppy! I could go on about it for ages, but people certainly look at you strangely and try to change the subject a lot :) Nixon had a few soft ones on the weekend for the first time since I started giving him yoghurt, so I'm mildly concerned - hopefully they firm up a bit asap. They were quite dark green coloured too, which is weird! We had our first white ones last week after giving him a really big bone too - I thought that was pretty crazy til I read somewhere on here about bones making it white - it's a relief to know why it's happening for sure!
  7. OMG Griffin is looking huge already! he's so cute! We'd just started getting game to shut Nixon out of our bedroom when he got rowdy, then about 3 weeks ago he started to discover he could steal stuff that was on table and other furniture... Now we can't relax unless he's shut outside, and then the pathetic whining means you can't relax because of the guilt! I agree, a sleep in would be heaven... Luckily I manage to get my glasses back before he damaged them much. None of the scratches are in a critical place. Generally when he takes stuff he does more exploratory chewing, so he hasn't really destroyed anything yet - unless he's stolen tissues, or paper towels or anything paper related - then it's destroyed asap!
  8. Lhok, what a relief that Treble is shaping up to be such a wonderful guard dog!! On saturday I took Nixon to our local school fete, and he was an absolute angel! I think it helped that it was a very hot day, so he was quite docile. He was very calm and relaxed with all the people and loud noises. When I wandered around looking at stalls he'd sit on request beautifully (no treats), and was happy to let people pat him. And in all fairness, everyone that did pat him asked first, so it was a great day all round! I was so impressed - he was such a good boy!! It pretty much makes up for him deliberately knocking my prescription sunglasses off the kitchen bench (over 1m high) and running outside to chew on them on saturday morning when we were trying to sleep in... Mornings are definitely our biggest problem at the moment. Sunday morning we got up and fed him, then shut him outside with the remains of his bone from the night before, and he proceeded to whine quietly for the next hour (ignoring the bone), until my husband caved and got up to watch some cricket, at which point he promptly sat outside and started chewing on his bone... sigh. He's fine as long as he can access us if he needs to... Not sure what to do. keep coming back to crating him overnight/early mornings again, but he's otherwise fine until about 6am when he decides we should all be up.
  9. Maybe something like this: https://www.worldfor...ea-Tick-Shampoo just came up in a google search. seems to be a few options. ETA I just read a bit more, and it seems it deters brown ticks, but not paralysis ticks. Surely would have to help though - I'd probably try it in conjunction with a tick collar.
  10. I know when I was a kid we'd get our dogs 'tick-bathed' at the mobile hydrobath, but I have no idea what chemical it was, or if you could buy it yourself. Wouldn't work too well if you dog likes getting wet though.
  11. Our boy loved his for the first few hours, but now he doesn't really seem to pay it any attention. I think it was just the novelty at first... Ours doesn't smell either.
  12. You need to look at the link - the picture is super cute :) http://www.news.com.au/world-news/sri-lankan-police-criticised-for-holding-mass-wedding-of-police-dogs-using-buddhist-wedding-symbols/story-fndir2ev-1226705354459
  13. Yeah, it was a very tough first few weeks, but he's great now :) That does seem a bit odd that as soon as the antibiotics stop, it's back... I know with coccidia it generally doesn't cause a problem until they're stressed, which is why it usually affects pups when they first go to their new home, if they have it. If there's nothing new that might have stressed your pup out, I'd be inclined to think that maybe something else is the problem. Also the fact you've already dosed with baycox would suggest the coccidia should be gone now. I also think it's a bit weird that the vet said they found one cell that looked like coccidia? When they looked at Nixon's sample, there was no hesitation in finding plenty of coccidia oocysts. Time to look for another cause I think. I still think it sounds a bit weird they're treating with antibiotics too - unless they think there's another likely cause that they just haven't told you about?!
  14. That's sad hopefully he can manage the antlers ok.
  15. Great advice above. Our pup's coccidia was treated with 3 doses of baycox, then same again 2 weeks later (just in case). He improved a lot, then about 3 weeks later he got sick, and it was Giardia, and a bacterial infection, which were treated with drontal (for giardia it's a higher dose than for worming), and antibiotics. After that the diarrhoea improved, but his poo was really soft for a long time. I think episodes like this are really hard on a young pup. As I've said elsewhere, youghurt and probiotics have got him back on the right track, and I swear by them. It's highly possible there's something else going on - we got some fairly comprehensive tests done on his stools (I think they sent it away to a lab), which ended up showing the giardia and bacterial infection as well as a few hookworm eggs apparently... I believe the test was quite expensive, but was covered by our insurance. I hope you get it sorted soon, I still remember all too clearly how awful it is to be cleaning up runny poos all the time Let us know how you go.
  16. I agree with Nekhbet that a bit extra won't hurt - there's nothing harmful in a probiotic! Just go half a capsule if you're worried - it will be fine. Was the metrogyl just for the coccidia, or is there something else going on too? Our pup was just treated with the baycox and it worked fine - faecal test done several weeks later was clear.
  17. From the Blackmores website under dosage: Capsule may be opened and contents sprinkled on food or mixed with yoghurt. http://www.blackmores.com.au/products/acidophilus-bifidus
  18. I was about to suggest ebay - they seem like a good price. Do you give Cooper yoghurt? My boy continued to have runny ones for months after various tummy upsets, but after giving him daily yoghurt they're now so firm I can pick them up easily. Has made an amazing difference for him.
  19. OMG that would have been scary! How fantastic that Harry made it after so long x
  20. Hi chewak, my pup had coccidia too, followed by some other tummy upsets and his poo just wouldn't firm up. I started feeding him yoghurt and it made a huge difference! I used the jalna Greek yoghurt because it's low lactose, and he's never had any trouble with it. Every now and again I'll give him half a capsule of a human probiotic from the chemist as well, for an extra boost. He absolutely loves his yoghurt though. His poo is super firm now - much easier to clean up! Hope your pup feels better soon. And don't stress, she'll be fine before you know it :)
  21. we used the collar on our pup when we first got him, but it's hard to know if it was very effective. I'd probably say not very...
  22. So cute Jack!! Unfortunately I have dog allergies, so Nixon won't ever be on our bed - ever (if I can help it!) Or any of our furniture for that matter...
  23. That's awful... Did your dogs recover ok? I lost a dog to a tick when I was a kid - never want to see that again! We have the scalibor tick collar on our pup and haven't seen any ticks yet... Will see what happens.
  24. I'm waiting for Nixon to realise he can get all the way up. For now it's just front paws up at 6am most morning... could be worse I suppose! He's definitely capable of jumping up, so maybe he is actually showing some restraint :)
