  1. Well I finally got my hands on a clam shell for Nixon, and he loves it! Just in time for our mid 30s heat wave today... He had a lovely time splashing around and digging in the water. He was also doing brilliant zoomies that included pig leaps in and out of the pool - was hilarious! Just have to be extra vigilant to make sure he doesn't sneak inside when he's wet...
  2. I found the best price for a lot of things, including kongs, is at jumbopets.com I got my first order from them a few weeks ago and the service was excellent. The shipping is flat rate too, so the more you buy, the better! :)
  3. Oh no Cassie At least it WILL heal, and you know what's going on now. I hope he's a good patient for you, and heals quickly.
  4. LOVE Odie mouse - too cute!
  5. Congrats Yvonne! taking himself out sounds ideal! no wonder you're happy :)
  6. I've been using a jug because my yoghurt maker has lots of little jars, so they'd be messy to pour into from a bowl. I add the culture at room temp then chuck it all into the yoghurt maker and voila! (or 12hrs later rather). Yeah, I've heard the culture can get a bit worn out - I saw in woolies the other day they have the jalna greek in small pots, so will just get one of those to kick start again if/when that happens. I'll be interested to see how long I can keep it going for though, from my original batch.
  7. I think like most things, people tend to be more forward in posting negative reviews than positive ones! I took the advice on there and usually leave it out of the bag for a day before putting it on. At one stage I thought he may have been a little itchy, but it wasn't to the point of actual skin irritation, and it could have been anything. He doesn't seem itchy anymore anyway.
  8. Sorry to revive an old thread again, but thought I'd update my yoghurt making experiences for anyone who was interested. My 2nd batch I used full cream liddell's lactose free uht, and it was definitely better, but not as thick as I'd hoped. So, for my 3rd batch, I used the same milk, but also added half a cup of full cream powdered milk (thanks sheena) and it worked out so well! It's super thick and creamy, and tastes and feels like greek yoghurt without any straining. It is really delicious!! I'm still just using some of each previous batch as my culture, and because I'm using uht milk I haven't had to mess around with heating and cooling the milk. It's super easy and takes me about 5 mins to get a batch sorted. Would be faster if I had a larger jug to mix everything together in - as it is I need to do it in 2 parts. Very happy! A batch seem to last me about 2 weeks.
  9. I thought the scalibor was different to the other collars - in that it worked in a similar way to advantix , and that's why it was still effective after swimming (once you've built up cover in those first few weeks)?
  10. That's so freaky that he escaped Lisa! If he does it again you should set up a camera to solve the mystery... :) We've had a couple of milestones lately. On sunday, Nixon finally destroyed his first shoe... It's taken so long due to extreme vigilance and keeping shoes put away at all times. However, I'd left these thongs in the bathroom as a sort of temptation, so see how he went. When I was in the bathroom with him he ignored them, and was great. Then later, I went for a lie down cos I wasn't feeling well, and I heard him go racing in to steal one and race outside. I figured I didn't have to worry straight away because he's usually more of a hoarder than a destroyer, but I think the hard plastic was too tempting for him. I finally got up to check about 5 mins later and he'd chewed through the strap in 2 places sad. bye bye thongs. And the other milestone, is that we finally had him sleep outside our bedroom all night last night! The last few weeks he's become a midnight roamer, which is not good for anyone's sleep... He gets up, so we get up to let him out, then he doesn't actually go outside - just lies on the doormat for a while. Then he'll often wander around periodically over the next few hours. Has been disturbing for everyone. So, we put his bed immediately outside our bedroom door last night, and shut it. I felt so bad! But, he lay down outside the door. I didn't hear him move even once, and when my husband opened the door this morning he was happily curled up in his bed! yay! No wandering, everyone slept better, all good! I think we will gradually move the bed down the hallway towards the loungeroom, and hopefully that will be a long term solution for everyone. My husband was originally talking about him sleeping outside, but I'm not keen on that. I think he'd spend the night chasing possums which wouldn't be ideal...
  11. Slightly different situation, but Nixon has had 2 dental surgeries so far, for broken puppy canines. The first he was in a lot of pain, and the 2nd was broken for several weeks and was starting to turn black, so we didn't want to risk infection. Both surgeries he had no trouble with anaesthetic, and recovered very quickly and happily. I'm pretty sure the surgeries were very quick, though I'm not really sure. Would guess about 15mins? I left him at the vets all day both times. One of the nurses told me they usually do dental last because they're a lot messier, so at my vet they do them in the arvo.
  12. Maybe I'll get flamed, but I've had a lot of success using a halti on our boy. He was the same - just super excited and wanting to check out everything. It was reaching the point where he was getting too strong for me to control, so against my better judgement I tried a halti. You still have to be consistent with your rules and rewards, and he can still pull a little, but he is 100% more manageable, and walks are so much more enjoyable for us both. He also seems more focused on me and responds better to commands when he's wearing it. It's made a big difference for us, and I hope that as our training continues, we will reach a point where we will be able to walk him on a flat collar again. Having said that - he still doesn't like wearing it much, and will still attempt a nosedive every now and again :) I'd suggest walking on roads or pavements until he get used to it!
  13. He is adorable!!! I'll bet you're counting down the days, hours, mins etc :) Not long now!
  14. Sounds like a good idea! They take 2-3 weeks to become effective, so might be an idea to start asap.
  15. We usually just take it off for swimming then put it straight on again
  16. I think they stay effective, but can be harmful to fish etc
  17. We've been using the scalibor collar since April and haven't seen a single tick on our pup... Our vet has seen several paralysis tick cases recently, so we're definitely in a tick area.
  18. That kennel looks great rangermad! We actually bought one of the cozypets one - I wanted something really sturdy, because we don't actually have any other shelter for Nixon in the yard (other than trees). I have no idea if he actually uses it or not, but I usually give him a kong in there every day, so at least he knows it's his and can go in there if he needs to. Though from what I've seen he'd probably rather wander around in the rain... Griffin is looking gorgeous by the way! And he's quite big too! I agree Gus is looking gorgeous Steph - such a handsome (if worrisome!) boy :)
  19. Nixon was getting taunted by a magpie on sunday - he was trying to run up the fence to get it (literally), and he'd get 3/4 of the way up then thump back to earth, and the magpie would just rotate between fence posts and the top of the clothes line to egg him on. He's also managing to keep our yard fairly clear of brush turkeys which is great! Though a turkey still managed to destroy my veggie garden when Nixon was inside one weekend. That's one birdur I'd be pretty ok with I reckon!
  20. That is such a great idea Roova! I too don't understand why price is such a big secret. If you already know you can't afford the pup it saves wasting the breeder's time and embarrassment for yourself when you have to refuse a pup after already sharing your life story...
  21. Good luck with the new trainer! Hopefully you have a more positive experience this time. Plus it sounds like you've made a lot of progress with Treb on your own too, which will help.
  22. I think you need to use advantix every two weeks, but it's safe from 7 weeks of age
  23. I definitely agree the collar needs to come off before swimming, but it seems like as long as it goes straight back on again once they're dry then the dog should still have tick protection?
