Gus is definitely looking great Steph! Sounds like I need to weigh Nixon so I can chime in. last time he was 27kgs? But that was a few weeks ago now. He's certainly very strong. He's 8.5months now, so I figure he should be getting close to his adult height, but I still feel like he's got some more growing in him, so I guess we'll wait and see. Cassie, your pics always make me want Sumo snuggles - he just looks so damn adorable!! That's great that he's recovered nicely too! -

Nixon wasn't very into his food either at first. I used to feed in multiple shifts to make sure he ate enough... It's very different now! :) -

OMG Nova looks so handsome in his bow tie!! We actually didn't get any trick or treaters last night, which is kinda annoying... what to do with the candy now...?! :) -
I realise that - just thought I'd post my experience because my pup adapted very quickly to having no canine teeth at all - even if he did then eventually get his adult tooth replacements. I don't think missing one adult canine tooth would be a big problem - dogs seem to adapt so quickly - particularly given ChequeredBlackDog's pup is still fairly young. I definitely know it's a much bigger deal to remove an adult tooth.
-
My pup had all his baby canine teeth removed, after breaking the top two on different occasions. He probably was only without any canines for 1-2 months before his adult teeth came in, but he adjusted fine. He struggled to pick things up for a couple of days, but after that had no trouble. If your pup would still have all his other canines, he would probably manage better than you'd think! I think they use the upper ones more for picking stuff up anyway. Also, if the removal happened during desexing, I don't think the additional cost would be too much - maybe another $100? The biggest costs are the anaesthetic and fluids etc, and your pup would be getting them anyway.

That's great Nova let you trim his nails! Nixon allows me to do the back ones if he's distracted, but isn't keen on the front. He isn't too bad with the pad fur though. He actually let me clean his ears properly yesterday, which was a small miracle! Have your sorted out your flatmate and the potential dog-sitting disaster yet?! Steph, can you post up the proofs? they sound extremely cute!! -

Thanks Lisa, I figured we were still a year or two away from experiencing his calm side! Maybe his breeder really did manage to pick out a 'placid one' for us after all... You'll have to give Nova a wash so we can see him in all his glory!! :) -

We've had a house full of guests the last few days, including my 3 yr old nephew who is perfect face licking height for Nixon, but I feel like we've completely turned a corner with Nixon. He's been so calm and patient, and hasn't tried to jump on the kids at all. The worst he's done is very gently sniff near my nephew's face, and he keeps trying to go to the kids' bedroom to check on them (and have a cuddle I have no doubt). I really feel like he's a different dog from a few weeks ago! He's been so placid and snuggly, and is even doing what he's told (after having a think about it first of course...) I'm almost a bit worried he's not feeling well... :) -

Nova is looking beautiful!! His coat is looking lovely - you can see the colours so much better now. You're going to have fun teaching him to stay off the new couch :) -

Hank is looking so grown up!!! Love the tags too - very nice -
The rest need to be cleaned anyway. He had breath that could kill, so that is the main reason he went in today. I would rather take action now than have problems for him further down the track. Fair enough, thanks for explaining. I've only had to deal with broken pup teeth so far. Disappointing that his diet isn't maintaining his teeth the way you'd hoped!

If they're loose, wouldn't they just fall out on their own eventually? Why did the vet say they needed to come out? Unless there are signs of infection, surely it would be an unnecessary anaesthetic?

What Shampoo Do You Use And Why?

I'm not sure about Fido's black shampoo but I was using my standards black shampoo on my brown toy and it started staining her coat. Thanks for that, I'll just go a for a more normal shampoo then. The store I buy food from stocks Fido's so I might try the oatmeal one. -

I've been trying to find some fodder for my argument, and this journal article seems to support the cause, if it helps anyone else out: http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0055937 -

I'm pretty sure Nixon had his first encounter with a young lady dog about to have a season at the dog park yesterday. He was certainly glued to her behind for a solid 15 mins (despite being repeatedly dragged away by me!) Having said that, he didn't try to hump her at all. Later that night he was showing some 'excited behaviour', but still didn't get to the point of actually humping anything, and now my husband thinks we should desex him soon... I don't think his behaviour is a problem at all! He settled down fine afterwards. There will be discussions... I'm trying to hold out for at least 12 months. -

Do you guys reckon Fido's black gloss would be ok on a brown dog? if not I'll just go for one of their more generic ones I think. -
Glad things have firmed up Hanodie!! I'm a huge fan of probiotics now :) Particularly with pups when they can be so sensitive to any changes. As well as eating the most disgusting things when you're not looking!!
