  1. Volunteer Photographer wanted for RSPCA Somersby. This would suit someone used to handling animals of different types and sizes, wanting to learn photography or just find another way of helping animals find their homes.

I am moving for a new job after new year but happy to help in the meantime.

Somersby shelter is an easy trip down the freeway from Hornsby on the Central Coast and has friendly caring staff who are embracing rescue co-operation. I would love a new volunteer who could possibly continue to support this.

please share with anyone who may possibly be interested. Happy to answer any questions as I have been doing the somersby pics for about 5 years now.

A COUNCIL on Queensland's Sunshine Coast says it will continue pursuing irresponsible dog owners after prosecuting a woman over an attack by her german shepherd.

NSW woman Janet Todd Walker was fined $15,000 and convicted of grievous bodily harm after her dog Benny mauled the leg of an 82-year-old man at Caloundra in August.

She is the first person to be convicted of grievous bodily harm over a dog mauling in Queensland.

The Caloundra Magistrates Court heard the animal had previously been declared dangerous in Ms Walker's home town and she had been ordered to use a muzzle on the dog in public.

"This 82-year-old man was out for a stroll, minding his own business, when the dog attacked him and mauled his calf," Sunshine Coast regional council's Sheryl Krome said.

The dog was surrendered to council and euthanased.

Ms Krome encouraged residents to report attacks and said there had been 20 prosecutions so far in 2014.

"It's time dog owners took responsibility of managing and controlling their animals so innocent people and pets are protected."

Magistrate Stephanie Tonkin said on Tuesday the owner had an obligation to protect the public and had clearly failed, as she knew the dog was dangerous.

The fine was a deterrent to the rest of the community and showed the irresponsible behaviour of the owner was unacceptable, Ms Tonkin said.

contact the shelter for details but tbh if you are really looking I would take a chance and turn up at the shelter when at opening time in the morning.

  4. It could have been kennel cough that was picked up in the waiting room at the vets. Any dog in heart failure is prone to deterioration especially when unwell with a virus etc. Heart failure and the buildup of fluid in the lungs can cause coughing which may or may not be associated with a potential case of KC. IMHO you can't just blame the vaccine.

  5. Good thinking KC. smile.gif

I saw this and was about to respond that we have ruled out Kennel Cough

She hasn't thrown up this evening, but even a little sip has her rasping. :(

poor babe. If you are going to see the vet in the morning I would fast her from now. Sounds like she could be aspirating. maybe offer her water in the form of small bits of ice to chew if needed.
