  1. How long has he cried for when you have left him in the evening?
  2. Is Harri entire? Gilbert gave me the biggest fright today- we were at a workshop today and all of the dogs were in a drop with the training equipment. I went to help someone to the car, turned around and couldn't see Gilbert anywhere!! After the heart attack, i realised he was behind the training box- he is the only dog small enough to not be seen in this spot!!!! Thanks poochmad Looking forward to seeing what his breeder thinks tomorrow!
  3. I wouldn't feel comfortable asking a few of those questions and like others, they could probably tell me almost anything and i would not know any different. I think puppy buyers should enquire about things most relevant for them- health would be for everyone but it diversifies after that- showing, performance, sociability, activity levels etc.

  5. What S+T said :D Plus its so important to get background information before suggesting anything and usually i don't have time to chat for the 20 minutes or so that would take!
  6. Thanks Clover! I remember looking at your signature when we were waiting for a puppy because i thought Harri was gorgeous! And now i have my own cute scruffer to admire!
  7. What weisnjac said!! And on another note, i would like to get a T shirt that says- "Yes, i have 5 dogs. No i am not some kind of freak. Yes i have a nice clean house. No my backyard is not a mud patch. And yes, funnily enough- people DO visit us, even with our 5 dogs.."
  8. He is a great little man. Going to see his breeder next Monday- she hasn't seen him for ages so should be fun!
  9. Thought some may like to see some updated photos of th Gilbert man!
  10. Thank you Bella Donna and silentchild- that would be fantastic! Thanks Mita- i was worried it was a bit long but if you get through reading it, it certainly gives everyone a way to get involved. We have just had an awesome raffle prize donated- a weeked for two at Best Friend Holiday retreat!!!
  11. Anything more than a quick, appropriate growl and snap would be stopped in this house. We run 5 dogs, all of breeds who are not known for excellent sociability with other dogs. They all get along brilliantly and i won't let weak leadership from us change this! ETA Was just talking to OH about it and he agrees letting dogs engage in a fight exposes you as a weak leader and would never be done here!
  12. What Erny said. I don't agree with the 'punish the lower dog' as a standard thing either.
  13. We have more terrific workplaces with elves as well as some very generous donations so far for our raffle. We still need more elves to take the concept to their workplaces, schools and community groups- please let us know if you can help.
  14. No a normal group environment is generally not the best starting point for reactive dogs and their owners/ handlers learning new skills. Private training first and then group training when they're ready is generally the best way to start. I would talk to your trainer very specifically about exercises that you can do to reduce the amount of regression you will get when the dog is rehomed. If you don't recognise what will happen when a dog is rehomed its harder to prepare for it, and there are some things you can do to ensure new owners don't go right back to the beginning after all the work you are putting in.
  15. Are you fostering these dogs with a rescue group? Is the rescue group aware of this behaviour? Is the trainer qualified and experienced with aggression? No matter how much work you do with them and how good they are, you must understand that they will likely regress to varying degrees in new homes so great care needs to be taken with their rehoming.
  16. Mine is both-leather base, microfibre cushions to sit on and over sized throw cushions that you can move around into any arrangement which means the dogs can have one end without leaning/ lying on back cushions. Best couch i have ever had!
  17. Chewie- i have 3 bitches and 2 dogs and 'touch wood' no issues. Of course they can live harmoniously together too. Some may disagree (flame suit on) but i also think the bitch on bitch issue is more prevalent in certain breeds as well.
  18. Although the dogs did not live together, i have witnessed a bitch try to kill another dog- the other dog was mine. We were lucky that both myself and my husband were there- otherwise she would have succeeded. There was a male dog there as well (littermate to the bitch) and while he punctured our dog a few times- the bitch was certainly the one that wanted to kill our bitch.
  19. The short answer is yes, it is possible. But it takes alot of time, experience, hard work and skills with BOTH people and dogs- some people develop these quicker than others.
