  1. chicken wire laid flat and securely pegged, with holes cut for plants, cover in mulch- works perfectly
  2. The couch wins for the most part- especially OH's spot! But beds and the pile of washing in the laundry wins out too! Gilberts favourite spot is curled up on the couch on top of the pile of cushions- super cute!
  3. I thought norocarp and carprophen were similar to/ the same as rimadyl? Sorry to everyone who has lost their dogs.
  4. Yes we will have workshops available as well as classes- the workshops start in August.
  5. Great! Thanks for the replies, seems i'm on the right track. Any recs for a Susan Salo DVD that specifically covers grids etc?
  6. I'm sorry Kirty I think some e collar/ containment or zone solutions would work well though.
  7. Thought i might ask how many of you or anyone else you know does much grid training and combinations similar to show jumping style training for your agility dogs? Having done agility a few years ago no one used to talk about it and i always wondered why we didn't base more of our training on show jumping type exercises. (as i come from a horse background) Getting back into agility now and planning to experiment with some grids/ stride adjustment etc so would love to hear any thoughts on this and what you do.
  8. Wow bedazzled.. I actually completely agree with you that an e collar is not right in this situation and think leopuppy has given GREAT advice which i would second. But don't you think this comment is one step too far? "You have just proved the dubious ethics of said collar and users" Thanks for responding to my query Zug Zug- just thought it was something worth considering if this behaviour was a little more out of the ordinary.
  9. Thanks for that Aidan- while i have used both good as gold and brewers yeast in horses i haven't used the combo in dogs- do you mind if i steal your recipe and try it?
  10. I would suggest a behaviourist as well- important to identify exactly whats happening and then go from there.
  11. See if you can observe a puppy class before committing to one. Whereabouts are you located? I'm sure some DOLers could recommend somewhere for you.
  12. Yes i have and found it works for some dogs- for those that it doesn't there is no ill effect, just no change. (in combination with a behaviour modification program)
  13. If you can find a great puppy class, i would definitely go. If you can't- don't and socialise him yourself.
  14. PETstock have them too- i bought one on the weekens as my dogs LOVE them!
  15. Has the anxiety increased again recently? If so, given the dogs age have you ruled out any physiological decline?
  16. Many daycares don't want people going into the doggie area when the dogs are there as it can really upset the dogs in there- raising anxiety levels, noise levels, excitement levels etc. Some have a viewing window so that you can view without disturbing the dogs, others may let you come after opening hours.
  17. There is a rough coat JRT at AAPS in Melbourne who we assessed today and he would make the most AMAZING sports dog- flyball or agility. He is a super friendly, very outgoing, agile and ball driven boy who will be wasted if he doesn't go to a dog sports home. He is not good with cats but had a great time playing with our big test dog- he is not short on confidence!! Needs some training but VERY smart and learns rapidly when worked in drive. His name is Buddy and he is 18 month old- his photo is here http://www.aaps.org.au/dogs/dogs_page_three-b.html
  18. Not strong enough to withstand larger or strong jawed dogs like am staffs, SBT's, Rotts, GSD's etc but i am yet to have tenacious smaller dogs break them. My JRT loves them as does my kelpie x. ETA I like the ones on a rope better than without too : )
  19. I have imported many raccoons tails without issue- i assumed because they were treated, it was okay..
  20. I speak to people every week who tell me there is not enough registered breeders pups to meet demand. Some of these people wait, others do not and yes they do go elsewhere and no, they are not 'bad' owners. Thanks Spikes puppy, i'm glad someone understands where i'm coming from. And OT- i recently met one of your pet homed pups who was absolutely wonderful as is the owner.
  21. I do support registered breeders merijegs?? I see breeding well socialised, healthy, sound, dogs (in body and mind) for the pet market an admirable goal though. I would also challenge whether there are enough registered breeders pups to meet demand- i don't think thats the case.
  22. Definitely have him go to a groomer soon-ish for his first 'puppy groom'. The aloveen smells really great too- even a few days to a week after washing. Welcome to the forum.
