  1. Hi It was disappointing that the comp had to be cancelled today but the rain never let up all day I'm glad it was for the safety of all concerned, not just the furry friends, the human beans but the ground as well as it would never have recovered. It was good to see some old friends and catch up on what has been happening over the years. Scotty, Annabell and Gambit never got out of the car while I was there. I made up for it when I got home as we did some tricks together. Boy do they love doing tricks. Gambit is just starting to go backwards through my legs. the hardest part has been to get him to stand still long enough for me to set him standing in front of me. Bett luck at your next comp
  2. I'll be there helping out when I'm needed. I'll be bringing Mr Scotty FD AD who is one of the first BDAG Flyball Dogs, TCH Miss Annabell FDX who wouldn't do any more flyballing after she gained her Tracking Championship title and Gambit who is too busy doing other things. Have you heard what the weather is going to be, Not very nice, make sure you bring your wellington boots
  3. Yeah, I'm so over the moon. Gambit worked well at Geelong Obed Dog Club's promotion day. For him to get 30/40 for his heeling means that I have been doing the right thing by building up his confidence at GODC. A special Thanks to all who have helped me during my teething time He bombed out on the Recall but that was neither here nor there, it depends on how I say "GO" as to wether he will come. :p It is always the handler isn't it. Anyway, Yahooooooooooo, Go Gambit , Go Gambit :p Go Gambit ;) I'm so happy, I'm so happy, I'm so happy
  4. Hey Hey Hey Congratulations Leopuppy04 Nadac is so much fun, not just for the handlers but it is so much easier on the dogs.
  5. The Tracking Club of Victoria web page has links to some great tracking books
  6. Congratulations molasseslass on your pups passing their TQT As you said, on to the real trials now. Have you decided which trial you are going to enter next? Who do you train with? Once you get over seeing a bare paddock stretch out in front of yuou on your first ever TQT is very scary, after that it's a breeze
  7. [He went to the local obedience club for some socialisation this morning, met lots of different dogs and people and had a ball. He loves his new friend Gamby (a little bit too much) He is such a delightful puppy, so alert, been in this world before and had no trouble with any dog or human being. You fall in love with him as soon as he looks at you. The person who Keeps him or takes him home will be happy for many years having that little fellow in their home. He does love Gambit a little bit too much and Gambit loves him back. Gambit is a sucker for puppies. Congratulatins to all who gained a pass or Title.
  8. I was most impressed with your delightful little Yellow who is so pretty. It was a great weekend wasn't it? The girls in the group were so keen to learn all about tracking. I hope to see all of them at a tracking trial one day. Oh by the way DOL group, there was one tree in particular that got watered frequently on Saturday and Sunday morning :p :p
  9. I know exactly what you are talking about Wagalot. Each time Gambit does that then I try another training idea. I haven't seen either of you for ages, how's things?
  10. to you and Leo as well as Congratulations, now on to the fun stuff. ;) ;)
  11. Congratulations, it is a very good feeling when gaining a title.
  12. Are you a member of an obedience club? if not, ring the clubs in and around your area and ask them if they do tracking training. Check out the links on the TCV web page, they are a great help. Go to the library and see if they have some tracking books. I'm sorry the person you contacted didn't give you any help. That is not normally the response when talking to people about tracking. Check out the calendar on the TCV web page and go along to the Tracking Trial. Contact the Trial Secretary and ask if you can go along to see what happens at the trial. I did that when I was interested in tracking. My introduction to tracking was a wonderful experience. the day was taken up with watching the dogs do their thing, asking questions of people nearby, listening to people talking about tracking etc.
  13. Congratulations It is a wonderful feeling when your dog puts it all together in the ring.
  14. Yes well, brother's, sisters and mother's in the rings near by plus Roy, Yilditz and me makes it very hard for the dogs of the Poruse clan. (I'm sure I put similar wording in a message a while ago) Gambit had a visit from his brother, after we had finished our Novice Trial. The Judge was giving me some hints on what to do and was taking too long as well as standing too close to the next ring. Tank & Gambit said "Hello, lets get up to some mischief?" They did for a few seconds then came back onto the planet and remembered what they were supposed to be doing. His sister, Charlie got up in the downs and walked about 1/2 way across the ring. The judge got her to drop and Gambit was watching her, then she decided to crawl, Gambit was in the 3 minute drop and I was praying that the 3 mins would turn into 30 seconds as Gambit was very interested in what his sister was doing, then my judge said Return, Oh what a relief. What a joy it is to see the Poruse clan getting so excited at seeing one another. The look on the peoples faces when Tank ran over to Gambit was so funny, I'm sure they all thought that a fight is about to start. They saw two very happy dogs greeting each other. My judged said "Don't let them play" but he was too late the dogs had already retured to where they were supposed to be. Oh the joys of Trialing :cooldance:
  15. Hey Clover I saw you at the Ballaarat Trial and I can't wait to read what you are going to add to this forum. Gambit's day was a disaster. Too many things that he did wrong today to event think about adding them here. Only to say that he wasn't at Ballarat today, heaven knows where he was. Sivaro did you make it on the day?
  16. Disaster at Ballaarat Obed today The AM Trial was not very good, but the afternoon trial was the disaster. 10 points for heeling, 28 for Stand for Exam, followed by X X and then 30 each for the sit down stays making a grand total of 38 + 60 - 98 Oh bother. The judge didn't get one pass for the PM session. I tried to get him hyped up but he just wasn't with it. How did your dogs work today? Was it that the weather was so calm or was it just a lazy day, or was it a full moon last night or is there one tonight, No, it was me again, it's never the dogs fault, it is always the handler :D
  17. Go Leo, Go, Go, Go Gambit is doing Obedience on Saturday at Ballaarat
  18. Hi All Commiserations to those who were sitting on a pass only to have either the handler or dog do something that shouldn't have been done. It happens at every trial and I can remember them very clearly. What I'd like to know is: How come the dogs know that they are sitting on a pass and decide to do something silly in a different exercise each trial until they have been through them all and then decide they will do all the excercises properly each trial? Do they read our body language and understand that we are getting too clever for our own good? Oh well, there's another trial on next weekend, any one going to see how many more exercises their dog might decide to blow on the day?
  19. Hi It was so good over the Easter weekend at KCC Park meeting ShoeMonster and her lovely Staffies. She had a brilliant start to her Obedience Trialing. Go Shoe Monster Go ;) By the way do any of you know the reason why Shoemonster called herself Shoemonster?????? I do, and wow what a story that is
  20. Hey Gambit gave me a great Easter Present by gaining a pass in his 1st ever Novice Trial at KCC Park on Easter Saturday with a score of 182 and 3rd place. Silly me, I was told by the judge to read my rule book because when Gambit gave up the Dumbell after his magnificent Retrieve and I was told to "Return" I got Gambit to do a lovely Flip finish!!!!!! Yes I can hear all of you screaming "You are supposed to return to the dog" ;) Well I know that now and will not make the same mistake again. Normally it is the dog that mucks up on one exercise but I'm afraid Gambit has to put up with me The judge on Easter Sunday was the same one that took all the points off me for talking in the ring even though GAmbit gained his CCD Title. I proudly told him on the sunday morning that Gambit received his first pass, silly me, what is the saying about bragging Oh well on to the next trial at Ballaarat in a few weeks time. Go Gambit Go, Get a grip on things Wendy then Gambit can Go, Go, Go ;) .
  21. Hi Willow You are so lucky to have a dog that is so into tracking. Any dog can track whether it be a pedigree or yours that sounds absolutley lovely, but the secret is in knowing when the dog is tracking and when it is having fun. Search for a tracking Club in your area, I'm sure there would be one. Have a look at the Tracking Club of Victoria's Web Page, they have some great links to tracking help. Tracking is the most bestest thing you can do with your dog. You enter the dog's world as the dog knows what it is smelling, we, as mere mortals just need to hang onto the lead and follow.
  22. Hi Andrea The Tracking Club of Victoria has some good links regarding tracking. Contact the Secretary, Helen den Hartog and she will be able to put you onto the girls and boys who track in Tassie. The Aussie Poruse dogs have been very successful at tracking. My Gambit got his TD last year going straight through. His Mum and siblings are not bad trackers either. Why not join the Tracking Club Yahoo group, you will be warmly welcomed and learn lots. The addresses are as follows: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Oztracking/ and http://www.trackingclubvic.org.au/ Happy Tracking
  23. Way to go Arya and Tess. I know the feeling well Have fun in Open and knock the soxs off the opposition Wendy
  24. Hi It would depend on a lot of things as to how many runs I would put Gambit through. At present I'm only entering him in 1 Jumpers trial on a day. He is not quite ready for agility yet and when he is then I would enter him tunnels and Agility or Jumping and tunnels. He is only three years of age so I don't want to push him too far too quickly. It is up to the handler who is the only person who can decide what is the best for their own dog.
  25. Hi Just want to tell the world that Gambit gained his CCD title at Warrnambool on Sunday 9th March. His score could have been at least 92+ and 1st in the ring instead of 82 and coming 2nd in the ring if I had of kept my mouth shut. The judge told me that I lost just about all the points by myself (Isn't it always the Handler?). Gambit never lost one of them. I had made Gambit too reliable on rewarding him whilst training and now I don't go training at all with food on me. I leave the food in a container outside the training area. When I am happy with what Gambit has done then he can "Ok Go Get It" Same applies to agility. He can have his tug toy after he has done the exercise well. I made a hugh difference to his attitude in the obedience and the agility ring. It has made a difference to me too as I am more relaxed now that he is working as he can. Gambit was attacked when he was young by a dog from behing at his first obedience trial. That along with my attitude in the ring has gone through a number of training methods. It has been a slow process and has paid off big time. Now onto Novice.
