  1. Thanks for the message Lilypily. As you can see you raised a lot interest in your message. We all need a wake-up call every now and again to bring us back on track again.
  2. Oh that is a hard one as it all depends on what happened. If those who saw the incident were asked what happened there would be many different explanations. I would say the owner of the smaller dog is at fault. Being distracted is not an excuse for the small dog going off and talking to the other dog. The owner of the large dog should have been watching as it appears the owner knows the dog doesn't like dogs in it's space/face. (I hope the large dog was on lead an the handler was watching the dog also.) We all need to constantly watch our dogs no matter where our dogs are. This situation happens constantly no matter where the dogs are. I've found that handlers in class look at the person talking to them. They should be listening but eyes on the dog and what is around all the time.
  3. Hi all I'm wanting to train Jorja (malt/sh) for Freestyle to Music. She will never be able to do HTM as she is worried about being close, so and I don't wish to push her. She's very happy doing any thing that involves us working together. My main concern is what moves are needed for Freestyle as I've only concentrated with HTM with Gambit. The music will be something that has a happy beat and I thought of using a target stick or some prop that she can go around (she loves doing weaves). I look forward to reading your replies Wendy Gambit & Jorja
  4. Thanks Megan & Fuzzy. I shall put into practice both of your ideas depending on where I am
  5. Hi Trialers, How have you changed the way you dog understands that he is supposed to sit in front of you on a recall without his bum being out a little bit to the right or left or either flipping back to the heel position. Any hints will be gratefully received.
  6. Hi, I'm a member of the GODC. What would you like to know
  7. Hi there. I want to thank you all for answering my query regarding our dogs while on Kangaroo Island. We had a wonderful time, saw lots of animals, visited all the tourist spots, the house in American River was perfect and the ice cream at the Honey shop was to die for. No flies, wasn't bitten by mosquitoes wow what a holiday. Thanks once again Wendy and the furry friends
  8. Travelling from Geelong with a few stops along the way to Kangaroo Island on Sunday 23rd Sep. Is there anything we should know that could affect our dogs. On board will be 2 Rotti's, 1 Aussie shepherd, a tiny terrier who doesn't look like he should and a malt shitzu. All have been wormed, vaccinated and flea treatment. The dogs haven't been tested for heart worm but we have a supply of heart worm tablets just in case. Are there ticks on our way over to KI. Should we be checking our dogs daily? Looking forward to reading the replies Any information will be gratefully received. Wendy and Helen and Bastion, Freya, Gambit, Casper & Jorja
  9. I'M SO GLAD I was there to see the routines that led to your success. Especially the look of wonder on your face as you slowly came to realise that Tix had done it.
  10. Gamby Baby gained his third HTM Novice pass and 3rd place at the DWDCV Trial on Sunday 22 Apr 2012. He gained another pass in the afternoon which the judges thought was better than the AM Trial. Go Gamby Baby. Now we need to get it together to be able to compete in Intermediate level. Seeing Linda & her Papillon intermediate level routine on Sunday made me wonder if I can ever make a routine that would come any where near it. Linda and her dog fly around the dance floor making everyone smile seeing this little dog's legs going ten to the dozen. Until I try I'll never know will I.
  11. My Aussie, Gambit (Poruse Diamond Dealer) gained his first RN (Rally Obedience Novice) title on Sunday after gaining two passes on Saturday at the Inaugrural OTEC Rally Obedience Trial and came 3rd on two occasions. What a happy two day trial it was. Now onto Rally Advanced
  12. I also want to Thank ALL the Girls and Boys who spent many hours making the Rally O Trial a huge success. So many winners, so many Titles, not enough ribbons or pass cards but what the heck who thought the inaugeral trial would have so many happy smiling faces. What an exciting two days. Even better when there were a number of 100/100 scores. The scores were so high over the 4 trials. The judges each had very different courses. Some were so tight, some were nice and easy and some were "What the". Strange though that the "What the" course was the one that helped a number of people get passes making their introduction to Rally O very pleasurable. Geelong was well represented by Janelle and her 2 Goldens, Libby and her 2 Borders, Helen and her Brittany Spaniel, Barbara & her Aussie & BC, Helen and her 2 Rotties (Helen was the first to be judged on the Saturday), Rebecca & her Lab, Leonie & her English Springer, Helen & her Staffi, myself & my Aussie. Making it a total of 9 RN (Rally Obedience Novice) out of 13 dogs entered. Those who didn't get a title definately did so much better on Sunday gaining a couple of passes each. A special thanks to the Judges. Thanks to you all for being willing to come on board and make Rally an exciting new sport. Without you we wouldn't have been able to gain our Titles. A special Thanks to Heather for agreeing to judge the two mock trials held in Geelong. My Aussie Gambit (Poruse Diamond Dealer CD TD FDCH HTMS RN) Baby has now introduced me to Obedience, Agility, Flyball, Herding, Tracking, Dancing With Dogs, and now Rally Obedience.
  13. Yep, Jorja is a water baby, she has no fear of water at all. She will find anything to cool her down like the photo attached of her after she had a game of ball fetching. For a little white fluffy she is the most outgoing dog I've ever had and a joy to own.
  14. I'm glad I'm not the trial Secretary for the upcoming trial at Easter. It will be a nightmare trying to accomodate everyone who will enter. We might not finish until well into Sunday and Monday morning (Only because I think the entries will be so big) Once the powers that be get over that trial I'm sure they will tweek a number of things to make it easier for themselves and the judges. Are the judges going to be hard on those who have entered in regards to where the dog is in relation to the handlers leg. Are all the judges on the same page with regards to where we stand infront of the station for the changes of directions and for all the other stations. The GODC Mock Trial was another great success. There were 16 entries to be judged. Many of them learnt heaps. The finish station was the best to watch as everyone relaxed and just walked out of the course on the left hand side of the station. Some couldn't even say "Retry" The look on their faces was priceless As usual the 1, 2, 3 steps forward or backwards got a lot of people Hopefully another one can be arranged as it gets closer to the GODC trial in July 2012. I've got to stop wishing my life away as I haven't got that many years left
  15. Antinquin, please if you can go to the person who said to keep the dog locked up. The only way the council will do anything is if they have more than one complaint. You need as many people as you can find to get the rangers off their backsides. I had one that was more worried about finding a cow.
  16. Go to the Vic Dogs Web Page and download the Rules & Regulations. That way you will have all the info needed. I suppose SA should have a copy on their Web Page also
  17. Sarah will be teaching us how to move the dogs backend by using the set box (not the set top box as I call it). At a workshop I went to we were put into a square corner [_]. With the dog on the left side we were to lure the dog backwards around us. It was very hard. After Gambit and I had tried it we were standing near some girls and the next thing Gambit backed around me as though he'd been doing it for ever. Did you ever do the standing in a small square just big enough to stand inside it and moved one foot to the left (pivot) then bought the other foot together, then repeated it around the square. that's a good exercise also especially when doing a pivot move. Hope these things help you
  18. What is the Rally O DVD Canine Coach Melbourne. Is it the one with all the stations and explanations? I'd be interested to know also
  19. I'm happy to say that Geelong Obedience Dog Club are running a Mock Rally Obedience Trial for members on Sunday morning. thanks to the judge for giving up her Sunday morning. Some will be lucky enough to have another go at a RO Trial as well as getting feed back while for many it will be the first time. Walk the course at 9.30, start at 10.15am
  20. Hi TrackSam That name is perfect for you. Yes I love RO also. I've been dabbling in it for many years and have seen many people who can't or won't do Obedience finally walk the courses with smiles on their faces. They can't believe how easy it is to get the dog to do the stations correctly with their dogs tails wagging. For me it has been a truly rewarding experience. A lack of concentration is all it needs for the handler to do a station by missing out on one word. A number of those who did the course last night learnt heaps. Easter is going to be a get together of all Obedience, tracking, agility, herding, etc., etc people that we haven't seen for years. I'm so looking forward to it. I will definately see you there. Have you entered obedience also or just doing Rally. I'm only doing Rally.
  21. Hey Monet n Diva's Mum We are all in the trialing Rally Obedience mode at present as the first Rally O trial to be held in Victoria will be held at KCC Park on 7-8 April in the afternoon. Hope to see you there so you can watch Rally O in progress
  22. A Mock Rally Obedience Trial judged by a RO judge was held on Thursday night at the Geelong Show Grounds run by the Bellarine Dog Activities Group. It turned out to be a great success. The organiser did a magnificant job making sure all the paper work, numbers, catalogues etc as well as the ribbons were done. It was a bit heart stopping for me as a number of the entrants are in my rally classes. I was so nervous for them, then to be last in the ring myself with them all watching was aghhhhhhhh. The girls did very well. A few exercises were done too far away from the signs, some forgot to read the Halt after the finish word, a few tight leads but other than that it was a wonderful chance to see what needs to be practiced before the big RO trial at Easter. The course wasn't too challenging but it did have some of the tricky signs that needed to be read all the way down to the last word before executing them. Thanks to all who entered and made it a very life like trial. PS, Gambit and I did get a pass and came 1st
  23. Tassie the look on your face all day at the trial let all of us know that you had the bestest time while you were there. I was so good to put a face to the name "Tassie". You routines were great and it showed in you receiving the passes for each one of them. I'm sure we'll meet another day in the not too distant future
  24. Hey Tassie, once you're there you'll be pleasantly surprised that most of us are in the same boat. First on though is a bit tough. If your doing Freestyle I'll make you very welcome as I'm the Freestyle Assembly Steward that will look after you. Also, it'll be over before you know it and then you can meet and greet and watch all the upcoming wonderful performances from those who love music and their dog/s
