  1. Further update on my trial with the Avon stuff. I had to bath him this morning as he was biting chunks out of himself. It looked like the Skins so Soft was irritating him. The redness has gone down and he is not nibbling so much. I wonder if it is worth buying some Alpha Keri to try on the ratbag.

maybe some fragrance in the Avon One was the culprit.I guess if you buy some Alpha Keri oil to try at least you can use it on yourself as well

  2. I just did a bit of a search on the net and it seems that the problem might be limited to raw fish. ???. I don't know. I also read some concern about raw eggs! might start another post.

found this little bit of info so looks like it is really raw fish that can cause the deficiancy

Raw fish contains an enzyme that breaks down Vitamin B2, so feeding too much raw fish to your dog, can result in a vitamin deficiency. The simple and safe way to feed fish to your dog, is to cook it first, as the cooking process deactivates this enzyme and also reduces the risk of any parasitic infections being passed onto your pet from the raw fish.

  3. I just read this on a vet website:

Dogs and cats can be fed whole, raw fish (if they are interested) as long as it is fresh and not a poisonous variety of fish. However, only feed fish once a week, including tinned tuna (for human consumption) as overfeeding with fish can result in thiamine (Vitamin B1) deficiency. Commercial pet foods made with fish have thiamine added to prevent this.

So it says tinned fish only once a week. I need to cut down then as I would give them tinned fish maybe once or twice a week. Has anyone heard of this?

    Thanks

I sometimes buy the larger tins of tuna and divide up between the 2 shepherds over 2-3 nights so just wonder how much fish equals a 'feed"

  4. Interesting........ I have an itchy boy and I also have Avon Skin so Soft in the bathroom - guess who will be a guinea pig thia arvo  I have not heard of using Keri Oil, but I will try anything. Thanks for the info.

 well at least he will smell nice if it dosen't happen to work anyway as that Avon one smells lovely

My girl seems to be quite peaceful this afternoon after her bath earlier although I did give her an antihistimane tablet as well

Let us know how you find the Avon one with the itchies

  5. One of my gsd's has become itchy recently so today I bathed her in Malaseb ad than gave her a rinse in Alpha Keri Oil as I have read it's quiet good for itchy dogs(apparently the Avon Skin So Soft is suitable as well)

I had previously not been able to find the cause of her scratching but when I was blow drying her I discovered she has an area on her back towards her tail that is red and blotchy where she scratches.I have also given her an antihistimane as well

Anyone else used the Oil before and had any results?i'd actually had it sitiing in the bathroom cupboard from when the kids used to get excema and when I saw it I remembered reading about using it for rinsing itchy dogs in so deceided I had nothing to loose

  6. Not much use on the S90 but I just upgraded my Cannon IXUS to the Cannon Powershot SX200 IS(RRP $649)that I picked up for $513 at Domayne by getting them to match a price I'd found and am very happy with it.

Much the same reasoning that you have, wanted a better camera but was not ready for an SLR or the bulkiness of them

    Good luck with your choice.

  7. For some reason one of my gsd's is stinking after her last bath really quickly. She is normally a dog who gets that doggy odour a lot more quicker than my other gsd but this time it was pratically the next day and it's horrid

I have deceided to bath her tomorrow with some malaseb just incase she has a yeast infection flairing up although I don't it is(no scratching etc) and was just thinking I had read previously about rinsing with vinegar after a bath to reduce smell and just wondered what amount I would use in a hydrobath and if you just leave on or rinse off?

Or what about adding Baking soda? How would you do that, add to shampoo or as a rinse

  8. I've just started using liquid Chlorophyll for one of my dogs that has stinky breath and generally gets a doggy odour much quicker than my other gsd.It apparently is also good for making there poo's smell less

If you google it for dogs it has great reviews

  9. OK well tell me why its the exact same bag I see at my local feed store (identical ingredient listing etc) and he told me its BestCare ??

I don't trust anything without a name on it, they could put anything into a generic white bag, sorry :cheer: Until it gets a brand on it it's suss

I don't believe Bestcare is actually a brand anyway, thought it was a company that maunfacturers pet products?

I have used a pet food previously that was manufactured the same way(not the same product thought I don't think ,It was called Be-natural) in a plain white plastic bag and has a label stuck on it with ingredients, feeding guide etc. It was also marketed for the Japanese market and I never thought it was anything but legit, just a way to cut down pricing on fancy packaging.Obviously the overseas market are not as concerned as we are with pretty colours on packets :(

Sounds like these products are marketed for the overseas market so it's a shame that they are not beter known in there own country of manufacturing

  10. Hiya!

I was just cleaning out my cupboards and came across an unopened Avantix 4ml dose for a pooch over 25kg. I used this on my Golden Retriever in 08/09. Having now moved to Victoria I no longer require this and would like to pass it along to someone who would like it since Tick Season is upon most of us. No catches or anything, just PM me your postal address and I will post it off for you, I just hate wastage and would rather have someone use it than to throw it out.

If I am in the wrong place just let me know and I will repost!

    Cheers! :)

if still available I would love it
