  1. We spray all around the house and patio areas with Coopex about twice a year , you buy it in a sachet in Bunnings and mix with water . When son does poo patrol he has to hose down the grass and if there is anything on paved areas from foster pups that gets sprayed with lavender kitchen cleaning spray then thoroughly hosed off . Can you get venus fly trap plants here ?
  2. Maybe so, but a child should NEVER be left unattended with even the best of conditioned dogs. You just DON'T do it. Exactly Liz .......just had a call this morning from someone enquiring about one of our staffyx pups which is up for adoption and what they are like with children .Turns out they just had their 4 year old kelpie x pts for biting their not quite 1 year old baby ...........she was letting the baby pat the dog on the head whilst eating to teach the dog to be good around food
  3. They have had their vaccinations .......that is about the only good thing the owner did for them . Thankyou for all the information , you have been a great help
  4. Fair enough. CEA is nice and expensive to DNA test for. How much roughly is the DNA test .......we have had one done on a pound pup before but it was to determine what breed he wasn't so he could be released . That was 140 plus 70 dollars for express post at a Uni in Melbourne .
  5. If you are taking the pups I would definitely DNA test for CL ($55) and have an eye test for CEA. CL is a devasting disease as the symptons don't show till about 14 months and then the dog slowly goes mad and are usually euthanised before 3. CEA in BCs is not usually s bad as in othe affected breeds but you could lead youself open to problems if you rehome the dogs and they are affected especially as the risk is more than normal because of the inbreeding. Would an eye test at 5months show the CEA anyway? I don't know about BCs but to pick it up in Aussies it generally is done much earlier. A DNA test for CEA would be better surely? I have an Aussie here who is DNA affected but it wasn't picked up on her puppy eye check. A DNA test would be better but I was thinking of the cost. A physical eye exam should pick up aany problems if it was a bad case that would affect the dogs life surely. ETA If it is a mild case then it wouldn't cause a lot of problems in a pet dog and I am assuming these pups will be desexed before rehoming. Yes absolutely , they will all be desexed , chipped and vacced as is our policy ........ all pups are done before going to new homes . We have a wonderful vet and will discuss all the tests with him ! The pups are actually gorgeous ..... the 2 females are black and white and you would have a hard time distinguishing them from a purebred and the male is red and white .
  6. Thankyou everyone , don't know about mums breeding but she seems to be a very mellow even tempered girl ......but this is her 4th litter back to back The original father is apparently the next door registered breeders Cavalier ( they are on 5 acre blocks ) . We are taking the dad and the 3 pups ......dad is lovely even though she has kept him on a chain because the bitch is in season again ......but she is still wandering around the property and owner won't hand her over too ( says she is going to a friend )......it is a huge mess
  7. Thankyou Laneka ........I'm not a breeder and have had lots of conflicting advice ........these are surrendered rescue dogs . The mum is a purebred border collie and the father is a 12 month old bc x cavalier pup from the bitches last litter
  8. Can anyone please advise on the implications for the pups from this mating please .......they are 5 months old and seem healthy and of good temperament even though they haven't had a good start to life .
  9. So another sad set of statistics to prove the warnings ;) Child under 4 - tick Dog with underlying health issue - tick Child unsupervised - tick Child with food - tick I hope the poor little girl is OK. I doubt the dog will get a second chance. All the more tragic because its so easily prevented. How on earth does anyone leave a dog outside in 40 degree heat??? Plenty do without more than a normal bowl of water .....then when dog digs down to the retic to find some cool earth to lay in .......yep stupid dog has to go ;)
  10. I believe this incident happened in Nimbin, have any of you been to Nimbin? I do have some very normal friends that lives there but the place is full of very feral people. The kids run around dirty with no shoes and very little supervision. (parents are too stoned) The animals are even worse so I cant see any dog training going on or teaching kids to respect animals. I would be very surprised if it was a pure breed Labrador :D I do hope the little girl is ok I'm not going anywhere near your gross generalisation of Nimbin. Re the bolded part. One question. Why? Purebred labs bite too ............had a call from a guy wanting to surrender a 3 year old bitch this morning for biting his child . What was the trigger for the bite? Food ! It often is. ;) Shite some people are slow learners. The myth that some breeds of dogs are 'dangerous' and others are 'safe' has seen a lot of kids bitten over the years. Sorry that was a bit short ( seems like the world and it's wife wants rid of their dogs today )......basically the dog has hip problems and they have been keeping the weight off her on their vets advice , dog is outdoor only dog and the child was outside playing with some biscuits in her hand ......no adult with her ......given that the temperatures in Perth are hitting 40 degrees daily atm ........I'd say it was only a matter of time ;)

  13. Some harsh penalties need to be served if they catch the little B's that think this is fun . One of our members also is a FESA volunteer in Toodyay .........some little cretin thought it great to light several fires in the area on the 1 year anniversary of the big Toodyay fires ;)
  14. My dogs will still work/train for food Dyzney , just has to be a higher value food than the kibble .......Lola the GSD will also do anything I want for a food ,toy reward or general praise .........the wolfy x can be more stubborn .....not interested in toys but will just about turn himself inside out for cheese, liver treats , polony etc . ETA ......for those that think their dogs would be obese .......I have found the opposite if you start off young ..........they will regulate their intake by themselves . Most dietitions will tell you that the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat several small meals a day and exercise ...........when you eat just one larger meal a day your body tends to go into starvation mode and hold onto every last calorie .
  15. If they were sick enough to need to go to the vet ( unless being run over by a car ) they would have gone off their food way before the vet visit , it would be one of the first things that would tell me they were sick ........... I still know roughly how much they have eaten as I put the biscuit in the bowl in the laundry and see how much has gone throughout the course of the day .
  16. Dog Bless you Frank .......what a lovely man Very cute dog too
  17. I free feed my dogs ( I GSD and a Wolfy x ) in that they have free access to good quality biscuit all day and fresh water . In the morning they have any of the kids left over breakfast cereal etc and sometimes a bone . They get their meat and any dinner leftovers in the evening and will always sit and wait etc . My dogs are not greedy and have never guarded food or bones ......they will happily share all food and eat from the same bowl . I don't like dogs resource guarding food as we have alot of children and foster dogs in our home . It is the way we have always fed our dogs over the past 30 years and works well for us . My dogs are now both over 6 years old and will happily share their food with foster dogs and pups too . They have never been overweight and and are in the house with me and the kids all day without me worrying about them stalking the little ones for food .
  18. My dogs sleep up on the couch .......I got some really big Indira bedspreads from Ikea that tuck in under the cushions and over the back ones ( if that makes sense ) ......more because they are very hairy beasts than the smell ........it is really easy to just whip them off and chuck in the wash when needed .......also help to keep the sofa clean from toddler dirt and drool too
  19. My half sisters mum runs the boarding kennels in Bridgetown and my half sister is with her at the moment.... I could ask them if they are able to as a last resort? That would be wonderful if they could ........if you pm your phone no I will give you a call to discuss .......thankyou
  20. Hi all fellow WA peeps ........I was wondering if anyone here lives near Boyup Brook or Bridgetown .....or if you have any dog savvy friends down that way that may help ............we are needing a homecheck done for a rescued Newfoundland pup
  21. Have lost count of the times I have been told that my pedigree GSD isn't actually a GSD ...".it is one of those Alsations coz it has a long coat "
  22. Have used both here ........my dogs much prefer the RC German Shepherd out of the two ........even though one is a wolfhound x
  23. Exactly ..........he was only a 3 month old pup who had done no wrong except end up with idiot owners who let him roam
  24. $140 plus postage ...........we had a pup in the pound tested .......but is was more to prove to the ranger what he wasn't than what he was ..........worked for us in that respect as he came back 25% staffy , 25% labrador , 25% dobermann and rest unknown breeding .........council was happy with the results so lucky little Bingo didn't get shot and has a loving new home instead
  25. this one looks like it has saluki in it to me as well. Do you know what it has in it? That is one of the dogs from the kangaroodogs website Kirislin ......guy here in WA breeds them and it apparently does have some saluki in it's breeding ..........we also have hunters here breeding Catahoula Leopard dogs and have had litters of their crosses surrendered to us If you look at that black/cream dog now on the website and it's puppy pics ...it is huge !!!!
