  1. There are alot of " Kangaroo dogs " like your girl being bred in WA Kels .......they are used to hunt pigs , kangaroos , foxes and rabbits . Unfortunately they tend to have large litters and the ones that aren't kept by the hunter or sold often end up in Perth petshops I have a staghound x myself ( was one of 14 )and did alot of research about them . My boy wasn't as leggy as your pup at the same age but is now full grown and 30inches at the shoulder and weighs around 40 kilos ! He is a beautiful dog but his prey drive really kicked in when he was about 2 years old and although very well socialised with lots of foster dogs , kittens etc .....cannot be trusted with anything furry that moves fast ......he can catch and kill a mouse quicker than the cats !! You can look on a site called kangaroodogs which is run by a couple of guys in WA to get an idea of how your pup may turn out . There is a black with cream points and feet dog on there which from memory does have saluki in it's breeding apparently aswell as a couple of other breeds . They are mainly deerhound/wolfhound /greyhound x and turn up regularly in the country pounds we rescue from
  2. it would have to be a shopping trolley with a sofa in it Poor Buddy.....such long, useless legs!!!! I feel bad too!!! We're a bit limited now because of the baby......if the weathers crappy, I can't take her with me, and I can't leave her at home, so we all stay home..... I would ideally like to go for two shorter walks (old dog, and small, easily tired dog) but we settle for a one medium walk a day most days I shouldn't feel too bad ......mine don't get walked every day but they don't really care as long as they are with us lounging around . The useless one won't go out if it is a bit too warm or if it is wet.......I even bought him a big posh drizabone dog coat with sheepskin lining .......no go :D How anyone thought he would make a hunting dog I will never know ........probably why he dumped them all :D
  3. Depends on the dogs really ......... I love long walks on the beach as does the GSD , but my big boy doesnt cope with it so well and does a sit down after half hour . Even when we walk him to school on a cool day ( only 15 mins away ) , he nearly always sits for a rest halfway home
  4. A wildlife carer who is nurse at a local vets is currently handrearing a tiny fox cub that somebodies dog has found . It was only a few days old and she is raising him with other animals ..........what are the chances of him being able to be a pet fox
  5. Thanks Poods. I've received two recommendations for a behaviourist (Kathy Kopellis-McLeod) who I'd previously been warned to stay away from. Confusing, but the warning was only from ONE person and I haven't been able to get in touch with the person to ask details of why she told me to avoid Kathy. There is another lady I'm very interested in seeing (Georgia Karajas), but she hasn't returned my call. There's also Danielle Brueschke north of the river, who has contacted me via the Functional Rewards forum (run by Grisha Stewart), offering her services. She told me to email her, which I did, but hasn't replied yet. I've also sent an email to Honey Gross-Richardson, who I met years ago and is very high up in the GSDAWA. Highly respected, I mean. I'm still trying to get her phone number too, as I'm sure she'd know who to recommend. So in the meantime he's not getting to go out much. When I do take him out, I get my son to act as "scout", looking for anything that looks remotely like it could be a little dog. And I have him on a 20m long line so that he can at least play a bit of Fetch. We also do that in the back yard, with c/t for eye contact. I know of the 1st 3 people you listed Rockdog and suggest you go with someone who knows GSD's and has alot of experience ie Honey Just wish I had some spare cash to help. Can't sell my body, it's well past it's use-by date!
  6. Rockdog .......I would agree with the above and speak to Honey
  7. Adrian is very good but quite expensive unless you are a rescue Have answered this in one of your other threads above asking the same thing Bonnie.
  8. I'm fairly sure clarke rubber sell a single size plastic covered mattress .......or is that too big ? Or maybe try to get a 2nd hand cot mattress ETA......we are talking for the dogs and not the baby right
  9. The kinross vets are very good and reasonably priced too .....they also open on Sundays I have had personal experience with them when my GSD got stung by a bee and ended up looking more like shar pei .....they were the nearest vet to me that was open on a Sunday ......she had 2 injections and they only charged me 88 dollars The lovely lady vet even phoned me later that afternoon to see how she was
  10. Goldie was found hit by a car but very sadly could not be saved by the vet
  11. I think maybe your "friend" likes to pull your strings Loraine ....... the Karratha branch send their dogs down to Perth for their vet work and the money is paid into our account in advance and work to be done confirmed with the vet by us . Feel free to check with the treasurer on 0407980580 as she has just posted out a cheque for $11,000 for last months account to the Ocean Keys Vet (9408 6999 if you would also like to confirm with them )who does the majority of our pups , kittens and bunnies too . South West ( based in Bunbury around 3 hours from Perth )branch have their own account with this particular vet as he is the only one who will desex pups and kittens at a rescue rate in Perth . Would be suprised if you had read their manifesto as far as I know .....they don't have one yet . Have left a message for one of the volunteers down there to contact regarding the pup . I'll pass on your number so she can call you direct to discuss shall I ?
  12. One of our vets in the Nothern suburbs has warned us that there is alot of parvo around at the moment too !
  13. any responsible pound would and or should!!! they live in a regional area in WA and I don't think that pound takes animal welfare very seriously. or however you want to put it. Homer is lovely ......which pound did he come from ............he is a lucky boy as the majority of country pounds here shoot unclaimed dogs
  14. Ummm ....probably about the biggest you can get .........have 6 kids and lots of rescues to feed We can fit a whole cow , several lambs and still have room left over for ice cream
  15. Thanks I heard there was a good pet meat place on South Street. Bit of a mission for me down from Joondalup but hopefully worth it. Hey Peigirl, I am in Joondalup too ........I order 100 kilos of good quality chicken mince direct from Inghams for $65 ............so only 65 cents for a 1 kilo roll if you would like some

    Puppy Pen

Hi Staffymum , your pup looks gorgeous !!! How many pens is that joined together ... 3? Looks brilliant ..... just what we need
  17. Loopy Lola

    Puppy Pen

What a brilliant idea , am going to buy a few for our rescue group , we have pups galore at the moment !!! How about you all post pics of yours all set up ? Do you think they are sturdy enough to support a stainless steel drinking bowl attached to the side ?
  18. So sorry Gemibabe Thinking of you at this sad time Sue , Lola and Buddy xx
  19. I get in the shower with my two and use a big plastic jug to help with the rinsing . Even though they get nice warm water , they still hate being washed Sue
  20. So sorry to hear of Barkleys passing .... he sounds like a great character !! Sending hugs for you and Bondi too Sue
  21. I too have a bull arab x and when he was a young pup eating at least twice the amount he does now. He is 18 months old now , not quite filled out properly , but still weighed 40 plus kilo's at his yearly booster check . I would still be feeding your pup several times a day , better for the large breeds to be having a little and often than one or two big meals . Do you have a butcher near you that makes good quality pet mince ? My local 5 * meats sells a kilo bag of fresh mince for 1 dollar which is excellent for helping to keep weight on my GSD . Can we see some pics of your pup please ? Sue
  22. Aww , he's gorgeous ...... give him a big hug and ear tickle from me Sue
  23. Is it Jai ? I'm so sorry Mel , what a rotten couple of weeks you've had I'm here if you need a stiff shoulder Sleep peacefully old fella .... Sue
  24. Just seen this too , I would insist they do an xray , sounds as though she may have a blockage . My Buddy swallowed one of my daughters socks whole and displayed the same symptoms , luckily he vomited it up just before he was having the op to remove it . If she is still not pooing , vomiting and listless , I would go sooner rather than later . Don't want to alarm you , but if it is a blockage it is better to get it done now . Fingers crossed for Bondi Sue
