  1. We already kind of do this with our rescues .......we go on as main contact at time of chipping .....then new owners are added but we stay on the chip papers for life so that we can always collect any of our adopted dogs if the owner doesn't show up or want to pay the fine . We had a hell of a time with the chipping companies at first but managed to come to an agreement . It really wouldn't be a hard thing to implement .
  2. I would love to be able talk further about this .......but just quickly from my own experience manning the phone for our rescue and dealing with the pounds and surrenders ......the staffy/bull breed crosses would be no 1 type dog found in the council pounds . Out of the 9 purebred dogs that we have available for adoption atm 5 are from registered breeders . Three were surrendered by their owners directly and two came in via the vets where they had been taken in for euthanasia.Three of the other four came from pounds so we don't know where they originated from. Just curious to know, do these 5 come with papers to prove they are registered & if so, is any effort made to contact the breeder whose name is on the papers & also what breeds are they????? sorry for all the questions, but I can't get my head around people calling dogs "purebred" unless they can see the actual ANKC registration papers of the dogs I think it is mainly due to people calling dogs "purebred" that give the genuine purebreds a bad name. To me a dog is not "purebred" unless it is registered with the State body of the ANKC & if it is not registered then it should not be called "purebred" unless maybe it has been genetically tested, which I very much doubt. Yes they do Sheena , that's why I said the others were unknown as they came from the pound or the the one poodle was already in its 3rd home before it came to us and owner wasn't sure where he originated from . Okay 2 female 3 year old Pharoah Hounds surrendered by owner .....came with papers .......there is no way I would inform the breeder of these girls due to already rehoming 2 of her dogs and condition they were in straight from her to cut a long story short . Male 7 year old Golden Retriever ...surrendered by owner after trying to book into vet for pts as he was scared of thunder and fireworks . Vet called and she was happy to hand him over to us . I rang the breeder as he was on breeders terms and saw from paperwork she had run him on for the first 3 years , hip scored etc .......no she didn't want him back .Issue was fixed by having him as an inside dog ;) Female 4 year old GSD ......surrendered with papers ........have rung this breeder previously and they haven't wanted to take their own back .......she was the 2226 the pup they bred according to her tattoo. 11 month old Samoyed .....breeder known ..was returned due to undescended testes and needing another op so was booked in for pts .....surrendered after vet put her through to us ........issues fixed and now up for adoption. Other four were 15 month old Husky , 2 year old Malamute , female GSD and a 6 year old poodle.

  4. Yes me too.........infact I would like to see a law here that ALL cats and dogs should be vaccinated and microchipped before being advertised for sale or incur a hefty fine .......it may put some people off if they have to pay out before they can make money from sale of pups and kittens .
  5. Agree Laffi ........then no sooner you get bubs off to sleep together ......the dogs start barking
  6. I tend to agree. I also agree with the fostering two pups idea ASAP , while she is still fairly active and organised . That way she will get an idea of what two are like together I was thinking she may still have morning sickness and puppies tend to poo alot , so may cause a rethink .....sometimes telling a friend they shouldn't do something makes them more determined to do just that . If the younger pups don't put her off , I can always follow up with a pair of delinquent 6+ months giant/large breed crosses :D
  7. Do you think you could talk her into fostering two pups for us Ncarter ........ probably the easiest way for her to get a small taste of what it would be like Alternatively she could come to my place to practice walking two babies in a twin pram with two large breed dogs ...........if she makes it around the block I'll be impressed
  8. Not sure how true it is but there is talk of 14 dogs being baited and killed in Gosnells ........It is on a Perth based rescue page
  9. Yes .....exactly ......then it's business as usual ;) Infact we know some that pretend to be complying with rangers orders but actually use this as an opportunity to offload their breeding stock that are of no further use to them onto local rescues and the pound
  10. She sure does. Date listed 03/10/2011 Expiry date 02/12/2011 Go figure If she is like a well known dodgy bybreeder over here , they move alot of their pups to another property when they know they are being raided or given time to downsize and just sell them from there under the friend or relations name
  11. Unfortunately this has been proven to be wrong in many breeds over the years. Sadly there's so many idiots out there who are only interested in the latest craze, don't provide a good home for the dog, and toss it out when the new fashion comes along. This is one of the reasons why puppy farmers flourish - they cater to a market and change breeds as soon as the market changes. I agree Sandra .......even know of cat breeders who seem to change their breed(s) for what is the latest musthave and offloading their old "breeding stock"
  12. Loopy Lola is the crazy German Shepherd bitch in my avatar ...........because her pet name is Lola and she's loopy
  13. After trying out alot of these products my fave so far is a cheapie aristopet one called Spice for Fido .......only 10 bucks for a bottle ;)
  14. Australia has less people, but it doesn't mean Australia has less dogs. The demographics and landscape of Australia is vastly different to UK. Australia has a pet dog population + working dog population + stray/semi-stray dog population. Council and local laws would have an impact on reasons dogs are no longer wanted also (I dont know what the UK local laws / council rules are wrt: number of dogs that can be kept; fines; level of difficulty for owners to reclaim their dogs etc) In any case, I was trying to find information on the dog population in Australia, and UK, when I found this hysterical gem (people of Whyalla ... ) http://www.whyallavet.com.au/Environment/population.html Clinic policy: We are committed to providing a high standard of veterinary care to our patients whilst minimizing our impact on the planet. Our aim is to make a difference that lasts well beyond the lifespan of the current generation of staff at the veterinary clinic. Australia has too many dogs, cats and people. There is a crisis of unwanted cats and dogs in Australia and we urge all pet owners to have their cats and dogs desexed. We work with the RSPCA to make a difference and reduce the number bring destroyed. The overpopulation of pets is a mirror of the human population crisis in Australia. For our childrens sake, we must reduce our human population through birth control and reduced immigration. Wow ....so Australia has an overpopulation of people .......that's interesting :D The area in UK I come from Northwest London /Hertfordshire which is a built up area had no limit on the amount of dogs/cats you could keep as long as you didn't have complaints made against you . There was only one council ranger that serviced the local council district and if she found a dog wandering she would usually just take it home !Any unclaimed dogs were taken to Wood Green Shelter and rehomed from there . Not sure how much fines were as I never received one
  15. You would find puppy farms in Ireland and Wales mainly . I think one of the main differences would be that pet shops have been banned from selling puppies and kittens for many years now and in my experience alot of English people buy purebred pups from registered breeders or shelters, dogs are usually mainly inside dogs and are able to go just about anywhere with their owners, so are generally well mannered and socialised .
  16. ;) ;) Go to the top of the class., HM. If that is what they did I am relieved Unfortunately , the footage was very heavily edited HM ........ and didn't actually show all of what we thought would have been. It was also noted by the carer that neither the reporter or cameraman were actually animal lovers ;)
  17. It might be an idea as a rate payer to write/phone the council along with as many other likeminded rate payers there to state that this isn't the sort of thing you want your hard earned money being spent on
  18. Over in WA yes ........some don't even charge or give out paperwork It is the minority that have any type of desexing voucher system .......for instance my local pound you can buy any dog as is for $30 plus rego . I bought a pure GSD pup aged approx 4 months for 45 bucks last week just so she didn't end up in the wrong hands . Rescues here don't pay for dogs they get from pounds either .
  19. Fully agree .......this is just getting ridiculous ........APBT's are two a penny here , not sure why these different sources keep on about importing them ......just look in the quokka or the local pound We have just had a young 3-4 month old girl come from one of the country rangers today .......even though some ar#*hole has attempted to cut off her dew claws with dog knows what ......she is extremely affectionate and just wants to cuddle up !
  20. I have another ......lining crates for pups to piddle on :D
  21. That bloke from the lost dogs home is an idiot! You did very well..... be proud, you represented responsible dog owners very well. I agree Was NOT impressed with the way LDH (I'm assuming) took the APBT looking dog upto the other dogs run so that they could go at eachother through the wire ........wonder whose idea that was
  22. Voted no ..........every single Rotti we've had come through has been a gorgeous natured loving dog , even the ones that have been starved and abused . I hope somebody with an ounce of sense can put a stop to this............German Shepherds will probably be next
  23. From a rescue perspective I would just say alot .......generally at least one what would be classed as pure in the pounds we deal with every week . Rangers mostly list them as staffyx , amstaff x , mastiff x or one particularly lovely red nosed ,green eyed pup a dogue x . There are always adverts in our local quokka for pure red nose pit pups for sale .
  24. Yes Kobe is an 8 year old male chow , he was entire until last Friday and previously lived with a female chow .......they were a breeding pair .He is in foster care with a carer who is home most of the time and usually takes in Malamutes for us .......she has no other dogs there at present .
