  1. I have a friend who is about to start FIFO work, 2 weeks on 1 week off. He has a 2-3 year old flat coat. The first thing I asked when I found out he was about to start this kind of work was "What about Vince?" He's going to stay with his mother when he's out at work. Yes for FIFO workers money can be part of the decision making process but for him, his work here in his hometown is dropping off at this time of year and obviously he has to work to support himself. As for selling to a FIFO worker (or military now that that's been bought into the topic) I would if they had leave in order to settle the pup for several weeks, and there was an arrangement for the pup to be looked after by a family member/partner. Would not consider it if they planned to send the dog to the kennel while they were at work.
  2. I like to know. That way if a judge happens to treat my dog in a rough manner, I won't enter under them again. It has happened a couple of times to my dogs and I will not enter again under a certain few judges.
  3. The majority of clubs in the NT allow you to direct deposit into the club's bank account. They provide the BSB and account number in the schedule, and they ask that you print out the receipt of transfer and send it in the envelope with your entries. This is a great idea and I wish clubs elsewhere would embrace it. Makes life so much easier for those without cheque books. The one club up in Darwin that didn't have direct deposit was the only reason I got a cheque book! That might be something I will suggest our clubs start doing. Not everyone wants to pay the extra fees for Ozentries. HOWEVER that will fall down if the mailed entries never arrive for some reason, yet you will have already paid. Sets a bit of a dangerous precedent? I have only had that happen once. I was close enough to home to be able to print off a bank statement with proof of the transfer to the club and bring it to show them. I know shows in the southern states include SSAEs to confirm receipt of entry. If you don't get the envelope back, you could call the show sec to confirm that they didn't arrive, and could arrive at the show with new entry forms and proof of payment in hand? Trying to cover all bases here.

  5. So, I'm not coming anymore! But entering one of my dogs to be shown there.
  6. It was a young boy, not a girl who was bitten at the show. The news showed photos of the boy with Ridgies, so they may have been the family dogs? They didn't say whether they were or not on the news though.
  7. It was Saturday and a Ridgeback as reported on the news. Since it was the second attack in the council area in a short amount of time, they are apparently looking at enforcing tougher rules. Might be hard since the dog show is an event (yes, on council grounds) but it could have happened no matter where the event was staged, and it's likely the dog doesn't actually live in the council area!
  8. Papillon Specialty show: BISS - Ch Sandrinas Fashion Assassin. RUBISS was another Sandrina's dog (was not told the name)
  9. I have folders for all my dog's show things so nothing gets lost.
  10. Wow, those IG puppies look quite big next to Mum! What are their weights?
  11. Results link is in the OP, you have to download the PDF I am afraid. Thanks!
  12. This reminds me, I was eating lunch at work this week and someone pointed to the long white hair that was poking out of my container. "Oh, just dog hair" I say, plucking it out and keep on eating. "Ewww isn't that yuck?" "Nope, I own 4 dogs, you get used to it and I know how clean they are!"
  13. Ours are allowed everywhere. The benefits of a fully tiled house. I'm torn if I move to a house with carpet. I think I'd prefer them to keep off it but that could cause issues with them no longer living the life they've been accustomed to, eg, sleeping in my bedroom.
  14. Don't get a papillon if: You don't want a dog that sheds You can't be bothered grooming. It's not as much as most people expect but it still requires effort You want to molly-coddle it and have it think it rules the roost You don't want a yappy alert dog You don't watch where you're going in the house and you step on/sit on him/her You have children who don't understand how fragile they can be You don't want a dog on an equal intellectual level to you ;)
  15. I've been floated the idea of taking a trip interstate sometime in July, not sure if it's early or late July though. :/ Hoping it's early so I don't miss the Darwin portion of the show circuit!
  16. For regions with a smaller showing population not to be penalised for lack of numbers (eg, with Rising Star)
  17. I was told today that my boy Blaze was the first Neuter Champion papillon in Australia. Go Blazey!
  18. Yes, you guys raise a good point with how the owner's behaviour can influence the dog's behaviour. "Oh, last time this happened my mum/dad fussed over me and gave me cuddles and treats because I did (behaviour) so I will do it again to produce the same result"
  19. The nature vs nurture debate. I guess it may be difficult to tell whether it's genetic, or whether a pup you've run on is learning the behaviour of the dam? I was lucky my litter last year was born in the wet season, storms every other day/night and even a cyclone! So they had no choice but to get used to those sounds and the pups I've run on are really good with it now.
  20. Yea, I just had a look at the Brown Trout Akita calendar and the dogs used look pretty awful. I agree with the Brown Trout calendars. I've had a few papillon ones over the years and a lot of the models aren't what I would call great specimens. Some oversized and with coarse heads. For 2012 Mum had a calendar made up from Officeworks with pictures of my own dogs on it that she gave me for Christmas, so I always like what I see. ;)
