  1. Re above it depends on the carer. Part of the job of a rescue group is to mentor and develop their carers. If after coming on several home checks with an experienced carer, a carer is comfortable doing this themselves and I can see they are up to the task then I am all for it. Of course there are those carers that are not comfortable with or capable of doing this objectively. That's fine too. Everyone has different comfort levels and capabilites. Carers should never be left on their own and be thrown into something they are not comfortable or experienced enough to deal with but empowering experienced carers to take on new things at their comfort level helps them and an organisation grow - every organisation needs succession planning. New carers are the experienced carers of tomorrow. As advised Kirstin I am more than happy to assist. You have my contact details. Cheers.
  2. All prices have gone up in Canberra in all the southside practices I use - however it is inevitable - the cost of everything is going up everywhere. PS Malcolm McKnown sold Tug Vet Hospital some time ago but he still works there and this practice is one of the main vets I use. They are still just as brilliant as ever.
  3. Thanks everyone. Hi Alison, Yes I had actually thought of that also at the time. We actually used that name temporarily while we all put in suggestions and we voted on our favourite but ironically it was actually voted as most popular and kept (actually wasn't my first choice but it was the most popular). Several other names that we came up with actually had aronyms or names similar or even identical (in the case of a couple of acronyms) to groups already in existance even using completely different words ....and we didn't think that was right. Its the best we could do in limited time. At least the name is not close to anyones and there is no other rescue group I am aware of abbreviated to AAR. Cheers.
  4. Thank you and no we don't have a facebook page yet......priority will be our own website first. We will get there though eventually though with everything. It all takes time. Cheers.
  5. Hi all, Just a quick information post to advise that a new rescue group has formed in Canberra. It is called ACT Animal Rescue (AAR) - we are currently up on petrescue and hope to have our own website in the New Year. Just in case anyone is wondering who we are - I am the rescue co-ordinator for the group (and as most know me, have been in rescue for almost a decade) and all the dozen or so foster carers I have been managing and supporting for the past several years are on board with me. Our animals are fostered in home environments, fully vetworked, assessed for temperament prior to rehoming and appropriately matched to homes. A two week trial is offered and we endeavour to help any of our former fosters to the best of our abilities. So nothing has changed except the group name myself and my carers are rescuing under. We look forward to continuing to help animals in need and working with other groups as always to achieve our common goals of minimising destruction of healthy rehomable animals. Andrea. AAR.
  6. I picked most of this up about 2 weeks ago - I think someone else came out and got stuff before me but this is what I collected and is available: 2 x small-medium cane kidney shaped dog baskets 2 x small-medium plastic kidney shaped dog beds/baskets 2 x PP20 plastic crates - both shut but spring not working but can be manually locked 1 x PP40 plastic crate - again shuts but spring not working but can be manually locked *One of these crates also is missing a carry handle A plastic bag with some coats, collars and possibly leads (used) in there 1 x large black metal crate on wheels (looks like a big cage/crate - this is the only thing I am keeping If you would like any of this stuff - please contact Chris T as usual. It will all be passed onto her for distrubtion to the various rescue groups who need or want it. Thanks Alison.
  7. Things were very very slow for me at first but at least enquiries have picked up a little (touch wood). I've had some major issues to sort out with my profile/listing of late but I must say the PR team have been very helpful and quick to communicate and recitfy issues for me asap. Thumbs up to them all, especially Vickie.
  8. My heart goes out to that poor lady. Having your dog mauled before your eyes is not something anyone will ever forget or recover from in a hurry. As for the current direction of the thread....really again?..........I have large dogs. Yes they have potential to cause more damage if they were to attack another dog but so what. That's like saying if I own a V8 I'm more likely to cause an accident than if I own a mini. If I'm a safe driver, am capable of handling a higher powered car and follow the road rules I could as just as easily be knocked in front of a bus by a morris while driving my V8. Good owners who socialise, exercise, train and contain their pets don't cause dog fights. Idiots own dogs of all sizes.
  9. Through fear of being flamed dare I say this term.....my thoughts.....pei x "jug"....seriously don't like using the word but have seen a few "jugs" around lately.... ETA looks like it in first photo - not so much in second though.
  10. Hi Alison, I can pop over on the weekend and am not that far away - I would particularly be interested in any crates as some of mine are starting to become a little worse for wear. Some extra collars wouldn't go astray either. Yes I would clean them myself anyway before they are used as then I can guarantee they have all been done the same. If you pm me your address/number I'll try and make a time Saturday or Sunday that suits us both. Cheers.
  11. Me too. I did a test email to myself and the other primary rescuer in our group. We both got our emails too but something is afoot.... my spam filters are regularly checked and junk mail boxes - nothing in there and there would also be something in the messages section of the PR site anyway if that was the case... A steady stream of emails and then...............one email enquiry since 14/10/12.......apart from the ones I sent as a test - one email in over two weeks? There is clearly something wrong....whether the usability of the site is the problem or there is a glitch somewhere....something is having a major impact on our email enquiries also...... Phone enquiries are now at barely a few a week for me now as opposed to a few/day previously if not more but at least they are still coming I guess.. Its a worry though.

    Toasty

Just saw this. Really sorry KKDD. I know how much you loved your little dacchys. They certainly were characters - both of them. I am not really a believer in all wings and angels either but if you really can be reunited with all those you have loved and lost, I know they will both be waiting for you somewhere patiently to find them... Your dacchys were a part of your life for so long - may you think of your Toasty on cold nights and hopefully over time smile remembering him fondly and all his silly antics that made him the sweet little shadow he was. Take care.
  13. Hollie has two families wanting to adopt her. A hard decision had to be made today given they were both suitable and equally wonderful even after a home check yesterday. She has been a star and real crowd drawer at our stalls over the last two weekends.....She is such a sweetheart - we will all be sad to see her go but we wish her all the best in her new home.
  14. Yes it was lovely to see everyone - a good opportunity to get the word out about your group (even though I have never rehomed a dog to Wagga LOL), drop off some stuff and generally catch up and thank all the local groups and rangers who we work with week in and week out to save animals out that way. Not a fan of the dust, but I thought the crowds were reasonable given it was a shelter open day, not a show and the weather was nice. Got to see all the animals and have a snag or two. Can't beat that. Anyway it was great seeing everyone, even if it was a very long day with the drive. PS SMART was not there....they were at another event but would have liked to have come.
  15. That is not correct - the "Date Rehomed" in the "Manage Rehome Listings" page is actually not the rehomed date but the date the animal was listed. For example - I just moved a dog to the rehomed section today - literally a few hours ago - she was initially listed Feb-April this year sometime (then relisted and then rehomed again) - she should be one of the first dogs showing up on the rehomed page but she isn't - she is many many pages along under her list date. The title is misleading and incorrect. The trawling from A to Z or Z to A approach is painful. At least there is a search by name feature now which solves the A-Z problem I found earlier. That's a major improvement.
  16. Gypsy is now staying with her owner after some extra effort/adjustment. Hopefully it continues to go well. Thanks to all who tried to help them both. Happy ending.
  17. Yes I am finding this painstaking too - working out who can be bumped and who can't. I have to edit every profile to see when I can bump it. Before it just had the date of last bump and you could work it out quickly that way. Real PITA. Also have an issue with all rehomed animals being able to be sorted either alphabetically or by list date - not rehomed date . Alphabetically is a bonus if you want to reinstate an "A" name dog, not so much so if you want to reinstate a "Z" name dog. Similarly - list date is useless for a dog just on trial that has come back if he has been in care for many months - you will have to search for its list date over many pages to find it and reinstate it, not page 1 or 2 if recently on trial/rehomed like previously. There appears to be no way to fast move pages rather than clicking on page 1, then 2 etc etc.
  18. And another one - those same adorable melt your heart eyes....
  19. Thanks Emma and Simone again - great to see another lot safe again - well done ladies and WAR!
  20. A long awaited update for Hollie for those interested - she has just arrived in Canberra over the weekend to foster care here now after a final checkup last week. Her recovery is going well so far and only has a slight limp in the back leg which should reduce considerably to normal movement over the next few weeks. She has pins in her leg, which will remain unless they cause any discomfort later in life. A special thank you to Cheryl and her friend out at Griffith who looked after Hollie during her critical recovery period. Thumbs up to you both. She is now is living the hard life with a wonderful foster carer I have here also until she finds her forever home.....
  21. Thanks Emma. Simone has pmed me. Simone I have pmed you back. Cheers.:)
  22. And kitten season has begun!........... Have just been alerted to two mother cats dumped heavily pregnant in Griffith that have just given birth each to a litter. There were also 5 orphaned baby kittens found under a house recently nearby also apparently by a dog (I pressume someone checked whether there was a mum around for a while first) that one of the mums is also nursing (as well as her own brood). 1 mum is tabby & white and the other is a torti. There are 7 tabby kittens & 7 ginger & white. Obviously each mum and her brood need a rescue spot (including the five additional bubs with one mum). They are currently in temp care only in Griffith and can get to Wagga (and onwards to Yass/Canberra or any other direction via other transport paths) if someone can help. If you can help, please let me know asap. These mumma cats and kittens are safe with WAR. However there is now another mum and kittens needing help that has been dumped in Griffith: "The kittens are about 3 to 4 weeks, and apparently very pretty - they are smokey grey & white & ginger & white. The mum is a smokey grey torti"They all sound stunning. Have asked for numbers. IF you can help, let me know asap please ....they can be gotten to Wagga and onwards as needed
  23. Like anything new sites have their teething problems and most of us have worked through a lot of issues now and had quick feedback. The aging for years and months has my been my biggest problem still too but I sent that info directly on to the petrescue people and the how to bump without having to go into each individual listing to work out if I can bump it. Once these are sorted it will be good. Also not many options for mixed breed dogs (which of course most of mine are - muttly). Only option I could find was "cross breed" or "tan" and then the word "mix" to add on the end. Thumbs up for the ability to add more photos - that's great - although they are generally now quite small unless you individually open them. My best constructive criticism unless I've missed it is a feature to sort animals rehomed by rehomed date as they used to be (all I can see is to sort by listed date and alphabetical order) - for recent dogs on trial that may need to be reactivated that could have been in care for months it is a pain to sort through alphabetically or try and scroll to find them if they were listed 6 months earlier.
