QUESTIONS 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) Own a Mini smooth. 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? Germany for hunting 4. What is the average lifespan? 15 or 16. Mine will be 20 next year. 5. What is the general temperament/personality? Mine is very affable. She is happy to snuggle with the cat. She is not snappy or yappy (preconceived idea of a lot of non Dachsy people. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? She wanders around the houseyard these days but used to enjoy a daily walk and activity. 9. How much grooming is required? Minimal on a smooth 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? Can only speak from owner perspective, but ours loves cuddling with anyone. (Bit of a tart!)

4. What is the average lifespan? We have had two live to 16 and 15 years.

We are always sad when the oldies pass... Blinky was different... I still fill her food bowl.... crap... it's sad...

Blinky went to bed on Monday night and quietly slipped away at 10pm. She was almost 20 years old. Blinky came to us when she was evicted from a nursing home. She was a feisty piece of work but had started to slow down in the week before she passed away. Underneath all her grump and grizzle was a dear little soul who loved her cuddles. She is now reunited with Sasha and Lucy. RIP old chooky

Daisy went to sleep on March 15. She was an adorable old girl who loved watching the sheep, probably remembering her working days. Daisy was happiest lying in the sun and looking after puppies... she'd had a few litters in her time. She had also been a hardworking sheep dog, who lost a leg doing her job... she was getting her mob off the road and a car cleaned her up... Rest easy old girl... Daisy... now chasing sheep again...
