  1. Just found it, it's Vitamin B7. The interesting thing is that the links to the dietary requirements of dogs that I can find don't list it as an essential nutrient. Since that study refers to a roblem in humans maybe it is not such an issue for dogs
  2. Hey Eden does Biotin go by another name? Do you know which (number) B vitamin it is?
  3. raw eggs, sardines are good too. My dogs only get dry and an egg three or four days a week and always look great.
  4. I changed mine to a morning meal after they were pooping in the bathroom(where they sleep) at night, since I've changed them to eating in the morning it has solved that problem too and they have lots of energy during the day.
  5. Bashin them up probably defeats the purpose too, don't worry if she won't swallow them and eat the whole thing straight away, it's chewing on it that is good for her teeth. Does he enjoy his night time dinner? My dogs get fed in the morning but not at night. Maybe you could just give him his evening meal in the morning instead
  6. to answer your other question, no dogs can't eat sultanas. Just a thought but maybe he doesn't want to eat breakfast cos he's not hungry. My dogs only get one meal a day and are quite happy, one day a week they don't get fed at all or only get a very small meal.
  7. I used to use supercoat but found it didn't agree with my two, they were always dull and had stomach upsets. They are so much better now that we have changed.
  8. Oh should add that mum's dog only gets this as a garnish on top of her food, which is made up of homemade doggis hamburgers and vegies.
  9. my mum uses it for her dog and Milly is certainly healthy and happy
  10. sorry I haven't actually used the pedigree brand before I just thought that was what you were trying to stick to. When I want to put weight on my two I use Coprice working dog, I've got to be careful tho cause Beau packs on the kilos if he is on it too long.
  11. what about pedigree working dog, it's designed for high energy adult dogs so might be more appropriate
  12. well a sock is made out of ribbing and being fairly thin the dog will still get the effect of the prongs even though they are covered. My theory was to put faux fur on the outsied and connect it on the inside with ribbing so that the dog still gets the effect of the prongs but it looks a bit prettier than a sock :D
  13. To the untrained eye prong collars can look a bit cruel, the idea of the sock is to cover up the 'prongs' so that they can't be seen :D
  14. that's fine it'll just look like a furry martingale the way I'll make :D
  15. nah I'd rather a have a funky fur collar on my boy when he gets his, I guess ribbing on the prong side would be the best bet?
  16. I'll post some piccies if I can get them to work
  17. Well I have had an offer of one size collar (probably the most popular size I would guess) to measure up. Will let you know how I go, I might make some with faux fur on the outside, they'd look pretty funky
  18. maybe I should start making covers for them, anyone in Vic have one they would allowme to measure. PM me if you're willing, happy to come to you
  19. I wish Beau's were pearly white, he gets the same bones, etc as Sascha to keep them clean but they still get mucky. I think he's just one of those dogs that will always be prone to nasty teeth.
  20. just wait until she is due for a teeth clean ;) Beau will probably have his off in about 4 months time when I get his done. Seems a shame to put them under anaesthetic and not hva esomething else useful done
  21. my vet suggested doin them at the same time as he next cleans Beau's teeth, he said it cost $20-$30 extra per claw depending on whether they are attached by bone or just tendon.
  22. I have heard that they work extremely well I'm not sure about the legalities in WA, I know they are sadly illegal here in Vic but I certainly have considered buying one interstate and taking my chances. Most people on this forum seem to be in favour of prong collars so I don't think you'll have a debate on your hands to worry about ;)
  23. I'm critical of their coats but mainly because I feel that if they look dull on the outside then it probably means they aren't getting the right nutrition. My two don't get shampooed, we have a dam on the property and they swim (like fish!) almost daily. The dam is quite silty and it leaves their fur nice an soft and shiny.
  24. If it makes you feel better we were at Werribee zoo for their twilight music program and a toddler dropped his pants and proceeded to pee on the front of the stage (Alex was actually in his way but I managed to grab him before he got peed on ) I can guarantee that everyone looked but it wasn't malicious staring, his poor mother was sooo embarrassed but everyone just laughed it off as a training accident, they happen to everyone so don't worry ;)
