  1. Dogmad it just got worse! Apparently she's not desexed and was running free with at least five other dogs, she may or may not be pregnant too
  2. OK well I just heard back from her, she's asked all their carers and they don't have anyone that can take it at the moment, they don't know it's temperament or anything at this stage so would probably be best to go to care at least in the short term to be properly assessed. One of the AWL ladies here I believe has actually seen the dogs so I'll PM you her number and she will be able to give you a bit more idea. I may be able to help with transport depending on where it needs to go if you guys end up taking it.
  3. Thanks Dogmad, I'll have to get in touch with her and see where they are in the whole process, I believe there is mental illness involved and the house was pretty appauling so they are treading carefully to make sure they get them out and safe
  4. Just wondering whether there is anyone for whippet rescue and whether they do private surrenders? The AWL ladies here are trying to extricate a number of dogs from some pretty horrid conditions but they are struggling with not having enough foster carers. Just trying to see whether I could do anything to assist them to place even one of them. I'm not sure what the others are but one of them is a whippet so I thought breed rescue may be willing to help?
  5. I agree, seems odd that they don't know when it would have happened.
  6. My neighbours have my number already, these are people who we have in the past stood out the front with and had a drink, kids play together, etc. We have a good neighbour relationship which is why it's so puzzling he wouldn't just approach me! At any rate it looks like a solution has been sorted.
  7. Yes, any time then was when I got my kelpie as they are the same age so he was raised with the kelpie pup and then my older two children were raised with the basset pup. The only one who hasn't had to live with a puppy while they were a baby is my youngest daughter, apparently I'm a sucker for punishment LOL
  8. He told my son that he yells at them but doesn't kick/hurt them. He was however sitting next to the neighbour that the information originally came from so I'm not sure if he would have admitted it any way. Regardless I don't need more problems. He knows now that we know SOMETHING was going on, even if it was just yelling so hopefully locks on the gates and things will settle down.
  9. From the Schipperke breed standard: probably explains why the Schipperke jumped in to my head! Maybe she has a little fox terrier or something in her, at her size she might be all kelpie but her little pixie face and smaller size makes me wonder whether maybe she's 1/4 foxy or something like that.
  10. I don't feed marrow bones, they only get lamb flaps and similar. It's a like a green patch at the base of her tooth.
  11. Not that I know of, it looks like it's gone bad right near the gum line so maybe it wasn't obvious when the vet looked. I did say then that I'd think about getting her teeth cleaned soon and now I wish I'd done it earlier The vet said they were OK but needed to be done fairly soon so they aren't atrocious or anything.
  12. She's 5, but she's a basset and with her long snout she tends to not chew on the side very well, it's one of the teeth about half way back.
  13. Yep, I'm going to Bunnings tomorrow to get padlocks, the only one I had here doesn't fit through the loop in the latch. Luckily Bunnings is literally across the road from work so it's an easy detour.
  14. Funny, when I looked at her the first thing I thought of apart from kelpie was a Schipperke, not very common though so probably not LOL
  15. I'm not stupid, I didn't tell my son! My old neighbour walked up to me in the supermarket while I was pushing a trolley with my children and said it. I also never said I 100% believed it, which is part of the reason I didn't want to confront him without evidence.
  16. Oh great, it gets better! My son is next door and who turns out to be over there but the neighbour who is accused of kicking the dog, so(despite me telling him to keep his mouth shut) he goes on about how someone said he kicks the dog
  17. The vet looked at Josie's teeth only about a month ago but I noticed she hasn't been as enthusiastic about her meals so I had a look tonight and one of her side teeth look awful I'm guessing it may have to be removed but it's going to be a tight squeeze as I'm paying off a few big bills at the moment. Can anyone give me an idea of how much I would need to budget for a tooth removal and to get the rest cleaned since she's there anyway? I'm going to talk to my mum and see if she'll lend me the money as I'd rather not have to put it on the credit card if I can help it
  18. The neighbour has told me the dogs are no longer barking and I made sure she knew just to come straight over if it started up again, she's been very good Sascha was upset the other day because I took Josie out for the day and she was whining a bit and she came over when we got home to check if she was OK(I actually thought she'd love a day to herself but apparently not!). Josie probably would just crouch down and cower while she was kicked, sascha would run. It's the neighbour over the road, funnily enough his dog howls in the garage all day if he's not home I'm going to see if my husband can advise me of how I could set up a camera, it's quite close to the garage door so I could maybe sit the computer in the garage and run a corded camera out from there.
  19. Possibly, but I would think a padlock would be just as effective, I don't see him climbing my colourbond fences to get in.
  20. I'm not sure, the only people who have seen it for sure are the new neighbours and they've only lived here about a month so I don't know if they'd feel comfortable making enemies this early in the piece! All the other neighbours are good mates with this bloke so I'd very much be singling myself out.
  21. An ex-neighbour of mine ran in to me at the shops today and told me that my new neighbours informed her that the man across the road comes over during the day if the dog barks when I'm at work and 'boots her around' My poor girl flinched when someone tried to pat her the other day and I thought it was odd but I never expected this! My new next door neighbour told me recently that she had been barking and we took steps straight away to rectify it(a problem caused by a different ex-neighbours dog running the fence line barking which set her off barking) and it seems to have settled, my nice next door neighbour tells me she's stopped. I can't believe someone would think it was OK to trespass on someones property and hurt their animals rather than being a grown up and just knocking on the door! before anyone suggests it I can't confront him, I live alone with small children and can't afford any trouble, my first step will be to padlock my gates, I have told my husband though that if I hear about it happening again I'll be reporting him to the police.
  22. Probably because they are just like my dogs, who'd just go "hmmm, a big yard with nothing in it but a dumb uninteresting witches hat, I'll just lie on my back in the sun"
  23. It just causes upset RSA(he's on the spectrum), the soap bar will hopefully just be accepted as something different as opposed to me trying to control the way he uses the current thing.
  24. Wow Blackjaq, that's pretty disturbing, I wouldn't even let my dog play with me like that let alone a small child! We looked after someone's dobe for a while once, she was a lovely dog but hadn't been trained adequately and she played in a very similar way to that one, in play one day she nipped at my brother in laws calf and left a huge bruise, that day she went back to from whence she came, our son was about 12 months at the time and I wasn't prepared to risk it.
  25. My oldest son is getting to an age where he is starting to take a bit more responsibility for the dogs and one thing he does is bathe them BUT he uses TONNES of shampoo. I've tried a number of ways to stop this issue but for reasons that aren't really relevant here it's difficult. Soooo... I was wondering if there are any bar type soaps that are decent for dogs that people could reccomend? Good for white coats would be a bonus but isn't an absolute requirement.
