  1. Hi all, been away from the ring a long time and wanted to know if training was still on, when and who was running it? Is there anyone around Maitland/Dungog area doing it of a day or anyone interested in getting the youngsters out somewhere for a couple of dry runs?!
  2. As another who has studied the law I disagree completely with Bronsonw. I would strongly recommend a discussion with the legal professionals recommended but with a support person. It can be confronting to hear the options available, view of dogs as property & potential outcomes. I am very sorry that you have had to experience such negligence with such devistating results.

  7. May 29, 2009 AKC AND DOG OWNERS WIN RULING GRANTING A TRIAL TO CHALLENGE CONSTITUTIONALITY OF DENVER BREED BAN New York, NY- The American Kennel Club® is pleased to announce that United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit has ruled in favor of plaintiffs Sonya Dias, Hillary Engel, and Sheryl White in their appeal challenging the constitutionality of the Denver breed ban. This ruling reverses the United States District Court of Colorado's 2007 dismissal of the suit. The Denver ordinance bans ownership or possession of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier and/or any dog with a majority of physical traits of one or more of these breeds within the City and County of Denver. Since 2005, as a result of this ordinance, more than 1,000 dogs within the city limits have been euthanized. In July 2008, the AKC® joined Karen R. Breslin of the Progressive Law Center, LLC of Lakewood, Colorado, and retained the Washington D.C. office of Kaye Scholer LLP to represent dog-owning plaintiffs Dias, Engel and White in their appeal in which they asserted that the Denver ordinance banning pit bulls within the city limits is unconstitutional. The original lawsuit stated the owners were forced to move out of Denver with their dogs because of the ban which they asserted was a violation of, among other things, their constitutional rights. "The AKC has always opposed breed bans on the basis that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. We support reasonable, enforceable, non-discriminatory laws to govern the ownership of dogs," said Margaret Poindexter, General Counsel for the AKC. "We also have serious concerns about AKC breed standards being used by law enforcement to identify dangerous dogs. Breed standards are intended to serve as the written ideal of a dog which breeders can aspire to, not a benchmark for defining dangerous dogs." In fact, the Tenth Circuit Court's decision quotes the AKC breed standard for the Staffordshire Bull Terrier: "with its affections for its friends, and children in particular, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, [the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is] a foremost all-purpose dog." The AKC supports laws that: establish a fair process by which specific dogs are identified as "dangerous" based on stated, measurable actions; impose appropriate penalties on irresponsible owners; and establish a well-defined method for dealing with dogs proven to be dangerous. If necessary, dogs proven to be "dangerous" may need to be humanely destroyed but the AKC strongly opposes any legislation that determines a dog to be "dangerous" based on specific breeds or phenotypic classes of dogs.
  8. I actually scan the xrays then return them to the vet. I then have a great copy on the computer and he retains the originals.
  9. Thanks all, Have been offered a copy to purchase and have done so!
  10. Thanks for the idea of the Library! I will probably buy a copy - just was hoping to have a look at it before I did.....
  11. Hello, I am hoping someone may have a copy of this book they may be willing to part with - even just temporarily? Will take great care of it and cover all postage and packaging both ways. Or if you have one you may like to sell please let me know. Cheers Megs

  13. Hello, I live in Newcastle and can fully recommend a boarding facility at Lochinvar. It is about 4 minutes of the New England highway from Maitland. I know its not exactly on the major F3 & pacific highway to Port Stephens but if you made the extra 30 minute drive from the end of the F3 you would not be disappointed. The have heated and cooled kennel blocks. Staff that really like the dogs and very very large grassed runs. I have Dobermanns and happily take them just for day boarding in the huge grass runs as the dogs have so much fun & exercise. I can tell the staff give the dogs attention by the way my own dogs respond to them. I have had bad experiences with other kennels but am very confident it this facility. Lochinvar pet motel if you want to google them!
  14. There is a noise device that actives on the dogs barking & emits a high pitch tone that the dogs DONT like... I think inotec (sp) may have the product. There is one for indoor use that I have seen working in kennels but I personally would not leave it on all the time as other loud noises can active it. I would be very tempted to look at on in a kennel situation and use it only when it was needed..... Just an idea.
  15. I'm a new convert to natural feeding and I love the stuff! My dogs have taken to it really well and actually want to eat it as its soaking. I don't feed it every day though. The dogs look great. I originally had my order delivered from the supplier you listed, but have now found a cheaper place. Petstock sells the 15kg refill for $109 (instead of $127) and no delivery fee so just check the prices on the 1kg if you want to try it out. Oh - and members of Dogs NSW gets 10% off that......
  16. Mine all swam the same way to start. I have them in a horse pool on a lunge line and tow them in the water for a bit. They splash with the front legs, then when they go under (the front legs not the dog) because you are moving the dog in the water with the lead, they get the idea of moving as they paddle. After a short while they realise they have back legs to move as well! Now the lead is just to determine how many laps we do!!
  17. I am happy to feed a dollop daily to my dogs, if i have a tub in the fridge. I have big dogs so a big dollop is needed. I would only feed a small dog a spoon full though.
  18. Is the dog desexed and has the vet checked his prostate? Its an easy test that only costs a rubber glove or a fast ultra sound whilst the dog is in the consult room?
  19. I am so so so sorry for your loss of Image. I can truly understand the pain you would be feeling. We are thinking of you. Megan
  20. I can recommend a book called "The art of raising a Puppy" by the monks of New Skete. Very very good and I have friends who have bought copies and they use it as a bible
