  1. Hi Luvsablue, I will see you down there as I am finally able to trial again after 8 weeks of not being able to do anything with my boy at all after he decided that it wasn't bad enough that he did his groin muscle, he corked his thigh. So look out for us as we will be rusty ones in UDX with you. I am also hoping to catch up with some old trialers who live there....... you might know them (Barbara and Geoff Broughton)
  2. I have seen many times dogs breaking thier stays in CCD (and in the old days Encouragement) and novice groups with some dogs standing over another dog (even to the point of going down the line to do so) to inviting the dog next to them to play. It only takes a second for a problem to occur, but ages to fix when it has happened to your dog. I am speaking from experience here too.. Back in August this year I was sitting in my friends car and seen a lot of dogs do zoomies past the car and thought to myself what a stupid person has let their dogs off for a run while there is a trial on. Found out later that it was the CCD group sit stays. Handlers was going every where to get their dogs. It was lucky that no dogs was aggro in that group.
  3. It has to make sense to you and Gambit. Remember that it has to sound the same all the time, and don't ask, plead, beg or growl your command, tell him what you want him to do. Remember KISS.. and signal is to be very clear to him of what you want. Have fun.. and let us know how you are getting on
  4. Any word for a sendaway is ok as long as it is in english and not swearing. I know quite a few that say square, other words that I have heard being used are In Out Place Mark Away go Mat If Gambit is dropping in the box, have you gone to far too quickly? As Ness said the only time that you must use the word Stay in UD is for the food refusal
  5. Good luck to all those DOL members who are coming to trial at Werribee tomorrow.. And may there be passes galore..
  6. LOL I would tell you if I knew! You should see some of my woods! There is a reason why I have training sets and competition sets... seeing as we aren't ready to compete yet the competition sets are still in mint condition until she learns to stop destroying the articles!!! why do they need wood, poor dogs total confusion no confusion with my dog, she chews all the articles even the leathers have teeth marks! It doesn't stop her bringing them back though! Have you thrown the article a long way from you and made it a game (this can be done after she has worked the pile and brought back the right one as the throw could be the game for her) ? Or when she has the right article, have you called her to you to get a quicker responce to come and get her reward? Just some ideas for you to think about
  7. ISH!! She brings the correct one back all the time now, I can't remember the last time she brought the wrong one back. She just picks up random articles still and then puts them down and eventually brings the right one back. I find that the more often I practise this (say once every day or two) she does it less but if it's been a while (say a week) she will do more of the picking up and putting down thing. I anticipate that if I just keep practising it she will eventually stop picking up articles while she is searching and only pick up the right one once... otherwise we're going to get a lot of substantials when we start trialling!!! Sorry Seita for not responding sooner.. Sound like you're on the right track for her. Every dog is different and have different requirements and this goes for how many training sessions that you need to do. But do make sure that you do make a big fuss when she does the right thing. Even if you only do one article it is better than doing all three and getting no where.
  8. Hi Seita, Just thougt that I'd ask how your scent discremination going? Have you worked through the issues?
  9. I hope too that every one puts their entries in for Werribee's trial. It is going to a fantastic day. Entries close very soon..
  10. Come on ppl enter Werribee's trial, you know that you want to. It is a great trial, and there is plenty of parking.. I will be there too, just might not have a dog that is all.
  11. Hey while we are on the subject of dog training in the Western Subs of Melbourne, does any one know anything about Dog Training in Yarraville? Like who runs it what their methods are and what they teach? Over the last few months I have been told there is a club there but can't find any info on it. I too, personally wouldn't go back to Altona ODC unless they changed their training methods alot. And there is few other reasons too, which I won't go into on here. Werribee is a much better club (I have been there for a very long time, and still enjoy it) and have meet some wonderful people there too, like Melody and RachelleBuck for starters If a Saturday Club doesn't suit you, you can look at Northern or Hobson's Bay Community DC in Port Melbourne that train on a Sunday Morning.
  12. About time that you added your brag. Congrats RachelleBuck and Kelli. I knew that Kelli could do it right back when I first seen her.. And tell your Dad Congrats from me too.
  13. Sorry to hear that Charlotte isn't doing so well LucyCharzie and Melody. Hey leave the boy alone, he just loves to keep you guessing. And don't forget that you will home ground advantage.. And here is hoping that we get alot of entries for Werribee's trial
  14. Hi Seita, how is the scent discremination going? I know that I am in UDX, but gee it would of been nice for my boy to actually bring back the judges scented cloth (which he indicated a couple of times) and not the one next to it...
  15. Hi Seita, As time goes on she will get better with it.. What ever you do, do not growl at this learning stage.. ignore it, cause when she is more confident in what she is doing she will stop grabbing every one. (this only my opinion other might have a different view on it) Have fun in UD, I sometime wish that I was back doing UD instead of UDX.... grrrrrrrrr multiple retrieves is my noghtmare... I can't point straight to something that I can't see, so why should my boy go straight... Thanks Kallistar, That was my thinking too that as she gets more confident at it she will do less of the grabbing. I don't tell dogs off when they are learning so I had no intention of using an actual correction but I was wondering if there was a way to discourage it.... ... now that I think about it when I was training her to encourage her to actually use her nose rather than just retrieve it was suggested to use random other items amoungst the articles to make it harder to simply grab something. Maybe I could go back to adding some cans and stuff to the pile of articles and see if that makes her use her nose more and then phase them out... Feel free to give me some opinions!! :D Hi Sieta, If you throw the article, does she go and retrieve it? If you throw a "hot" (scented) article not far from a cold article does she find it and bring it back confidently? Don't make things too hard for her otherwise she will pack her bags and leave home LOL. Once she is retrieving your Hot items with confedience then maybe add few things for distractions. Also JMO don't do the seekback and then the Scent descrim exercises.. scent work can be taxing for a "green" dog BABY STEPS..

  17. It was very much a shock when I found out last night that Lee had gone as we was suppose to meet up today. It is hard to believe that only the day before I seen her and now she's gone. Was able to give her Mum a hug this am. Take care Lee
  18. Yeah but the dog is on a non qualifying score anyway...... but over here we must have three dogs in the group exercise whether on a pass or not...
  19. So what happens if only 1 dog is on a pass in that class? Does the judge who chooses this optiion ask for a couple of stand ins'?
  20. I agree here. I was sitting on a wonderful pass one day and the dog next to me got up and growled at my golden. Has taken me over a year to get him almost steady in stays again. After that I never put him in stays if he wasn't on a pass. I didn't think it was fair to the other dogs if he broke and came running to me. I agree with you both. It takes alot to get your dog back doing stays comfortably after a bad experience. Unfortunally not every one thinks to do this. Stays can be my worst nightmare, as you never know if the other dogs are ok. And lately I have seen way too many dogs breaking their stays in CCD and CD.
  21. Do you need any thing else to raffle? Or anything else? And yes I will be there..
  22. The only advice that I can give you regarding Group Stays is to make sure that your dog understands the exercise really well and is confident to stay where you leave him/her On the weekend, we watched the CCD Group stays there was a massive group break in the stays.. only two dogs stayed in the class of approx 10 ( it brought back memories of my bitch becoming nervous in stays as it happened to us several times). It also happened again in the p.m trial. Have fun and enjoy the experience
  23. I get people to this all the time.. but you also need ear muffs so that the " human dog" can't hear you otherwise they will follow your commands. It is a real eye opener for alot of people I also get the person being the dog to hold the end the lead as people can't use an arm to guide the person as much. Works a treat too (until I fall down laughing at some of the behaviour that is offered by pretend dog as the drops and sits can be quite funny to watch at times)
  24. Just want to wish everyone good luck for Wangaratt'a Obedience Trial tomorrow (and Agility on Sunday). Unfortunatally I can't make it this year due to circumstances beyond my control. Please make sure that you post your brags/stories of how you went. especially you S/W Ok. Cheers
  25. Yeah I used to use ask Tux if he was "Ready" to work and he always answered me... and it has also backfired on me as one particular judge that Tux (and I both) liked when he asked are your Ready, Tux would always answer him And then continue to work for him.... I didn't need to be in the ring at all... Only now if Tux is a bit flat in the ring do I ask him is he ready... and then watch the sparks fly
