  1. So relieved to hear King has improved. C'mon King get well soon boy. Mum and Kali want you home asap!
  2. Thanks Peibe. Raf is feeling a little sorry for himself, with less energy than normal, but otherwise ok. He is on a chicken diet for now. I was a bit hesitant to introduce rice - he doesnt normally have it and I dont want introduce something else new that could upset his belly again. Perhaps I'll try a little tonight and see how he goes. Poor love. I wish he could talk and tell me what doesnt agree with him.
  3. King is a beautiful boy, what a gorgeous face he has I'm so sorry to hear of his illness. I can't offer you any words of advice but am sending you both positive thoughts for a speedy recovery :D
  4. Yup everything is measured. Raw vege mix, meat, bones and treats - give or take a little but averaging 700 grams a day. Never any weight issues in this corner either :D
  5. Hi everyone Hoping you can help me out. After a few weeks of loose and watery stools, not being 'regular', gurgling tummy, me trying an elimination diet and a big vomit this morning we were at the vet's this evening (armed with our spew and poo - you DOLers taught me well :D ) and Rafael was diagnosed with Colitis. Will be continuing our elimination diet (but far more strict) to get to the bottom of this straight away. He's had the occasional mucous poo but never such a loose consistently and for this period of time. Have had no radical changes to diet of late - he's just turned 1 and had been a BARFer since 16 weeks. There were a couple of new treats I did try him on but stopped them over a week ago - symptoms have continued. He's now on few day course of Metrogyl to settle his belly which is currently a little tender. I might also add he is in perfect health otherwise - fantastic coat, skin, eyes, ears, teeth and gums. I would like to get food allergy testing done. Can someone recommend who to see in Perth? I have been to Diana @ Wholistic Animal for homeopathics - has anyone used her for the testing she does? I'm also not to sure how allergy testing works - I presume they test to certain stimuli but is it ok if I bring my BARF vege mix in for testing too? A ball-park figure for $ I can expect to pay would be great aswell. Thanks in advance peigirl

    Biting Puppy

Hi bikle I’m sure someone with more experience than me will be along in a jiffy but I’ll put my two cents in. My little guy was a nipper too at an early age but grew out of it before too long, I’m sure Douglas will aswell. When he bites tell him ‘no’ in a firm, loud voice and if he continues walk away and ignore him. Your lack of attention should serve as the punishment. On a few occasions I separated us by me going into the laundry and ironing for a 10-15 minute period. I’d shut the door so he couldn’t see me and made a lot of noise pretending I was having a fabulous and exciting time on the other side of the door where he couldn’t see me. A bit of whining resulted which I ignored. 15 minutes when he was quiet I would come out to a mellow, a bit sooky but no nippy puppy. Reverse psychology perhaps? Not sure, but it worked. I also taught my boy ‘kisses’ aka licks. He got lots of praise for giving kisses so he knew the command from an early stage. Then if he was mouthing or bordering nippy I would change his focus and ask for kisses. Now as a big grown up, mature (not!) 1 year old when he gets a little carried away with mouthing during play he will still switch to ‘kisses’ on command. Good luck!
  7. What about this? My boy gets the Omega-3 Liquid from Melrose Health http://www.melrosehealth.com.au/products.php?choice=omegapet. Has a balance of omega 3 and 6's plus Vit E and others. $10.00 a bottle from my health food store and lasts for ages.
  8. Hi bluedomino. A bit hard to tell from your photo but does it look like human pimples? Puppies can get puppy acne which occurs on their bellies and muzzles. Speak to your vet about it. My boy had a very mild case at about the same age which cleared up soon after I started using Malaseb shampoo that my vet suggested. Good luck
  9. Pei Pal I am so sad to hear your story about your girl. Shar Pei fever has actually been on my mind quite a bit today. I had never heard of FSF til this morning when I stumbled across a thread in the rescue forum with a pei who potentially has it http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=67334. I thank my lucky stars my boy (12 months next week) has never displayed any symptoms. So far that is. He also is an only child and my baby. I'm sorry I can't give you any further help on the subject but there are fellow pei lovers who I'm sure can. Peibe, Applepei??
  10. I'm really looking forward to it aswell. Didnt realise you were in WA Bikle, bonus, I get to meet a baby Corgi, yeah
  11. Rachelle that sounds like an anaphylactic reaction you've described which is not good as it means your girl’s airways are closing. My boy has severe allergic, but not anaphylactic reactions to bee/wasp stings which caused him to swell up worse than your girl around his eyes, ears, nose and muzzle. Very, very scary indeed. You would be surprised what they can get into after dark when you would think the ‘wing and sting brigade’ would be back in their nests. Not so. My boy’s worst episode (he had 4 in the space of 10 days) was after he went outside to the toilet around 10pm. The following morning when I woke at 6am he had slits for eyes and had blown up like a balloon. He also needed two injections on each occasion to bring the reaction under reaction under control. When the swelling went down you could see the sting marks on his muzzle – hard to find tho amongst all the wrinkles and fur on a shar pei. My vet gave me some 20mg Predisnolone (sp?) tablets to give him straight away if he has a reaction – they are the equivalent of what’s in the injections but takes about 10-15 mins longer to activate as its ingested. Every time we go out, the tablets come too. You never know when your girl might have another reaction (and how far away your going to be away from your vet when it happens) so I would definitely suggest you have something similar on hand for your girl too.
  12. Wyvernblade, I am so, so sorry for your loss. I have only just come across this thread and kept reading hoping to hear some good news. Now I’m in tears. Goodbye Lane may you rest in peace special boy
  13. Hmmmm last few comments not sounding very positive and I really want this workshop to go ahead! Can someone pls send me course details, dates, costs etc? I have 3 friends with dogs who may be interested. Wondering as well would it be worth putting a poster up at the dog park at Whiteman Park? They were advertising there a few months back for hydrobathing, dont see why a training workshop couldnt be advertised too???
  14. Sorry to hear no news on the diagnosis as yet Melo  Look forward to hearing some positive news from you soon.
  15. Melo I should have also mentioned start with about 100 grams of blueberries and 1/3 to 1/2 cup of natural yogurt. Make sure your berries are defrosted first or they will clog up when you mix them with the yogurt – one of those wand mixers works great. You can certainly increase the quantity of berries too. I really hope this works for you and your girl. I discovered the blueberry remedy quite by accident with my boy and it works everytime :D
  16. Hi Melo I can certainly identify with the ‘bad mum’ syndrome – currently going through that myself with my boy who accidentally ran into part of my brother’s home gym a few days ago while we were playing totally focussed on his toy, not where he was going We are back to our vet this evening for a follow up appt – he has a limp and bruising on his right shoulder/paw. I am devastated that I could have prevented my baby being hurt :D The reason for my post is also in regard to the comment you made regarding pooing. My boy sometimes also has problems passing after eating a lot of bones. You might like to try feeding your girl some blueberries (the frozen ones you get at the supermarket are fine). Defrost them and mix in with some yogurt. Within the next 12-24 you should have a nice, loose (but not runny) blue poo. Best of luck with your xrays as well next week.
  17. Missing link plus is a supplement you might want to consider – it contains glucosamine plus lots of other goodies Cost me about $45 for a 1 pound (454 gram) packet.
  18. Howdy Only just discovered this thread too! Would love to know more details date/price etc. Can someone fill me in?
