  1. $70! Elise where are you in Perth? I will give you my vet's details. A normal consult with him is $42.
  2. Sounds very similiar to a story my vet told me. This stupid woman had a Pei that weighed 44kg A Pei's ideal weight is 18-25kg. The pooch unfortunately passed away Stupid woman did not learn. I recently saw her two current Pei. Both also very overweight. She saw my boy Raf who is a little supermodel at 21kg (I actually can't keep weight on him) and said to her two "see that's how youre supposed to look", like it was her dog's fault!!! I mean WTF? Some people just shouldn't be allowed to have pets
  3. How old is your dog and how are the bowel motions?
  4. No I can't look at him the same! My mind boggles wondering what other feral things he's eaten and I've been none the wiser! Oi peibe that's cheeky it was definitely my brothers! There is only one man in life and he's only 1 foot tall. Seemingly tho he likes boys better than girls anyhow, but for the wrong reasons!
  5. Most do but sometimes they or your other resident dog cleanes it up before you see it I might just like to add there are some very well mannered entire boys out there - ie Rafael - who is not inclined to leave deposits behind. I thank my lucky stars And there are no other animals in my house, unless my brother counts? Umm, maybe he cleans up his own Well this is down right sick but I'll say it anyway. If you have a weak stomach do not continue reading! Last week Rafael passed a condom I'm not kidding, whole and intact. Evidently Raf was cleaning up after my brother when I wasn't looking! Needless to say the door to my brother's room is now kept firmly closed and is strictly off limits to puppies! I can't wait til Raf gets over the need to put anything and everything in his mouth. Last week I busted him trying to eat 5cm long frog
  6. Hi Calliech Great post! My boy Rafael has quite bad atopic dermatis - diagnosed thru intradermal skin testing, with extreme reactions to all insects and almost every weed, tree and grass pollen. He amazingly has a brilliant coat and skin and touch wood, has never lost fur or had any sores or hot spots. I honestly don't understand how given his atopic dermatis is very bad. He is bathed weekly with Malaseb but I will look into the Hexal wash. I do believe the Malaseb slightly irritates him. And by the way, your photo is just beautiful!

  8. These topics are great for a morning giggle!
  9. Thanks peibe Yep Raf is doing much better. There is no comparision to the pup who 6 weeks ago didn't have the energy to get off his bed. Energy levels are back to normal - either balistic mode or off
  10. everyone for the replies, its much appreciated. Judging by the responses it looks like 2-3 times a day is the average regardless of the diet.
  11. Thanks guys for the replies so far. What are your dogs eating? I was wondering if dogs on a raw diet or kibble based diet went more often?
  12. Hi all Raf and I have been working on his Colitis issues since the end of June - I can't believe its nearly been 4 months :D Anyways, touching lots of wood, his bowel motions finally seem to be stabilising. My question is when things get back to 'normal', how often should he be going Number 2? He was previously on a raw diet and going twice a day - morning & night. He is now on straight kibble - z/d ultra and seems to be averaging one bowel motion a day. While things are much better, I am still not at the stage where we look at reintroducing foods though, hopefully within a few weeks, we might be able to. I realise that every dog is different and diet will of course affect their motions so what's 'normal' for your dog?
  13. :D Fortunately no leakage issues to speak of with Raf!
  14. I got the fright of my life one morning when still half asleep I flopped my arm off the side of my bed to pat Raf who sleeps next to me. He was sleeping on his back and I accidently patted two little lumps. Scared the crap out of me! I don't think my head has ever come off the pillow so fast! I certainly hadnt felt those bits before He now wakes up most mornings with lumps. I didnt know boy doggies and humans had that in common :D
  15. Raf is not a papered Pei and therefore has no health guarantee. His mother is a papered pedigree from a breeder in Perth (Southern River I believe?). His father is a non papered Pei (healthy and active 8 year old when the litter was conceived). Flaming me now for not buying a papered pup won’t help Raf or me so please refrain if you feel so inclined. Our vet is Stephen Reid at Ascot. He has been seeing Raf since he was 12 weeks so he his very familiar with our history. I also know two of Raf’s brothers see Dr Reid so I will ask after them too. Shy of waiting to see Dr Reid on Friday I’m not really sure what to do aside from the status quo. Appreciate the offers of help peibe and applepei. If I have a Pei question I will aim them your way.
  16. Thanks Inspector Rex. When you say 'internal medicine specialist' exactly what sort of specialist are you talking?
  17. Ok has been awhile since we had an update and we were tracking ok til today when Raf’s bowel motions went considerably down hill. For the last 5.5 days he’s been on turkey and rice with some homeopathics, digestive enzymes, probiotics and aloe vera juice. His last bowel motion before today was Sunday which had shape, was somewhat firm and a reddish/mustard colour. This morning his motion was mustard in colour, quite soft and had little shape. This afternoon I came home to a poo that basically was a little bit of diaorehha and 2/3 jelly. Raf was very distressed poor thing. As was I to find him in such a state. I was definitely not expecting his motions to worsen rather than improve. Especially in the space of a few hours. Since this past weekend Raf has also had consistently watery eyes essentially all day (except during sleep) and has been scratching them quite regularly. I have been bathing his eyes several times a day with warm salty water but it seems to have had no effect. His eyes are also now puffy, I would assume from the scratching. His energy levels are also quite low as compared to normal. He is well hydrated and has been drinking/weeing as per normal. I am going back to my vet on Friday (he won’t be on til then). I haven’t been back to see him since the initial colitis diagnosis where he gave me a course of Metrogyl. As a newbie to the whole colitis issue I take it its time to ask for a faecal test and possibly more? Any advice greatly appreciated. I am one very worried and upset mum right now
  18. He'll be fine and it'll wear off. My boy had two for allergic reactions 3 days apart. Took a good fortnight til his system was right again.
  19. Yep a great weekend indeed! Very informative and very motivating. Started the drive training tonight with Rafa and he loved it! Nearly lost my finger on two occasions and he was whining at some points from frustration which I interpreted as a good sign. Can't wait to see what the following weeks bring
  20. Well no phone call as yet so lets hope we're ok. I'm in Joondalup so Rockingham is ages away for us.
  21. Didn't Steve also say to bring along their favourite toy? Or was I reading that in another thread? And Meriment, Norman is DEVINE!
  22. Dan & Ness are your dogs really called Merrick and Rosso? Pardon me now if I crack up everytime I hear you say their names ETA - they are great names by the way!!
