  1. Thanks Clyde :) Yes OH is super handy, he's a boilermaker (welder) by trade so the plan is for him to knock one together for me. I'll probably just buy the frame to go on it. Thanks for the shampoo recommendation too! I will get some
  2. Yes :) Just need the table now and all my grooming needs are satisfied! (Or at least that's what I'll tell my OH for now...)
  3. Bought it :D The guy was great and ran it for us and gave us all the tips etc. He used to have Old English Sheepdogs so it can certainly handle a lot of coat! Can't wait to use it.
  4. Great posts and photos Behluka, thanks! How do CAS go with their hips and elbows out of curiosity? Is hip dysplasia a problem in the breed? I know from experience and living with them, that some giant breeds need to be almost wrapped in cotton wool for their first year or so!
  5. Haha I actually haven't weighed him for ages so can't be sure. He needs some worming tablets in the next week or so, so I'll take him to the vet and weigh him then and report back!
  6. Hmm I was so hellbent on finding a heated hydrobath, I guess it's not a problem if you have access to hot water though. It'll be good perhaps if we don't get hot water plumbed out there straight away, I can persevere with the heater in the mean time.
  7. This bath has a heater, so I only need access to a cold tap...right? You'll need to look at how the bath works. You might find that you have to rinse with cold water or wait for the water to reheat in a single tank. I personally find waiting for the water to heat up annoying and would prefer to use a hot tap. Thanks everyone, it sounds like the hot tap is definitely the way to go. I really appreciate everyone's advice, this is exactly the sort of information I needed not having used one before, so thankyou. Fingers crossed I come home with a new toy today and we'll go from there :)
  8. Thanks for the info on your setup Clyde, this paints me a good picture and sounds ideal. I like to rinse super thoroughly as well so I agree, it would be nice to be able to take your time with it. I'll speak to OH about getting a hot tap set up outside as well.

  10. Thanks for the responses. I definitely see the benefit of having the twin tanks, but I don't think I want to let this one pass for the price they're asking. Going to view it tomorrow and if it seems ok (do I need to see it in operation? Silly question?) then we'll buy it. Will keep an eye out for a second hand twin tank hydrobath if I decide I need to upgrade :)
  11. I think it looks really good going by the pics, but I haven't seen many.
  12. Thankyou that makes sense, I never understood the difference before. Does it take long to empty the water then refill to rinse the dog? The bath is a "hydrobath systems" brand from here in SA. I've tried calling them to see what a new one retails for but the two numbers I can find on the net for their company go elsewhere, so I don't think they are in business anymore. I'm finding it very difficult to find any information on this brand of bath at all, hence my questions here. Seller is asking $1000 negotiable. Any thoughts on that price?
  13. This is the description: "Single tank, sliding door. Heater with adjustable thermostat and davey pump." So I'm happy about the pump. And happy that it has a heater, as I won't need to plumb it to a hot water tap. Can you please explain the difference between a single tank or a twin tank as I really don't know?
  14. I call this one "The bearskin rug"
  15. Thanks guys, I love them both so much :) Baby's first bib:
  16. Hi everyone, was hoping to get some advice on what exactly to look for if I am to go and inspect a second hand hydrobath that I have my eye on. Are there any particularly good brands? Or any brands to stay away from? I understand the pump is important but again, not sure what brand/s I should be looking for. What about wear and tear on the actual bath? Will a few scratches (for example) matter in the long run? The seller has listed it as "In excellent condition" but I know this definition can vary from person to person! I need it to regularly bath my show Saint Bernard, so it needs to be able to hold a very heavy dog! Are they all capable of this or are some more flimsy than others? Many thanks, looking forward to your responses :)
  17. I have no experience with anything like this Jules but just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear of Joey's health issues I hope someone can give you some good advice on what to do next. He's such a dear little dog and I know how much you love all your dogs xxx PS your post looks fine to me, although I'm on my phone if that makes any difference.
  18. My assistance dog needs to be big enough to handle my weight on him sometimes (I can pass out) pull in a harness as sometimes I need help walking. Be obedient enough to pass a public access test which is quite strict and doesn't drool and to be honest I kinda don't like labs, Goldies or poodles (they are lovely dogs just not for me) --Lhok I was going to suggest a Newfie until the no drool point. From the traits you've listed I would say a German Shepherd :) You could also consider a Leonberger, very loving and biddable, BIG and strong, and no drool :) German Sheps and Leos are at the top of the list, I'm still going to have a long chat to the new trainer and see if I can't get Treb to work out though. Another thing is that the dog will have to be happy with walks every other day. As some days I just can't do it --Lhok With this added info I'd say a Leo would work really well. But yes hopefully The Treb Man will work out perfectly for you if the trainer thinks it can be done! Good luck :)
  19. A bigger car, with a chauffeur who would also set everything up for me :) Sorry I know you said one thing.
