  1. Why just the single speed and have you tried the wahl steel combs on cockers? Clipper blades were designed 30 plus years ago to only work at 2100 spm(stokes per minute) That is the speed they work properly at, f you over revv them they are only cutting on the tips, and then need resharpening more often, more revvs doesn't mean you are cutting quicker, all you are doing is making the blade hotter quickly, and a hot blade is not a good blade. It is like a lawn mower revving it's guts out trying to cut grass, it chews it up, instead of throwing it out the side, and away from the tynes.
  2. Hi winewood,if your Osters motor still goes but gets hot, send it to me,most likely the other guy couldn't get it apart, they are fragile at the age,and he most likely never had the parts for it,we do.I only charge $15 for the service only if I get it going, nothing if I don't. But if it doesn't go at all, these days I would go for the Wahl SS, buy it from Clipperworld, because they will look after you if you have any problems. Other sellers you will have fun with, which you don't need. Andis clippers are expensive to start with, and are a very good clipper till they start to play-up, then you are at the mercy of the distributor(KraMar) KraMar which don't like to part with their parts for the Andis clipper, plus the parts are expensive. Oster clippers these days are very disappointing, the reason they get hot is they still have brass bush bearings in the motor(old technology), brass bush bearings went out with the world war 2. The reason I say Wahl SS to buy, is that the motor doesn't work to hard, as in the KM 2 they work twice as hard, and will only last half the time. All clippers on the market these days nearly every 12 months if the clipper is worked daily, the cord breaks where it goes into the clipper which is easy to fix. Wahl parts are a good price, they are easy to repair and don't cost a lot to maintain. Please get back with questions,nicestman77.
  3. Does anyone know of a experienced petgroomer on the south coast(Batemans Bay NSW) who wants to do grooming in a well established petshop, will be your own business & the rent is FREE. Use of all equipment there free as well. Sea Change guys(Groomers) Contact me for details. A great opportunity for a youngen to start-up a new venture.
  4. Yes, I do agree the Andis Pro 2 is a good clipper, but once the top case starts to wear inside where the slides are for the off & on switch, and the high & low speed starts to wear, you have problems, and it get worse, but when new, yes they are fine, but a bit pricey for what the clipper has to do for this particular person.
  5. Hi there jibba these days I would go for the Wahl SS, the KM2 do tend to rev a little to high on the second speed for my liking, but there again everyone to themselves. I am an old fuss-pot. Clipperworld is the place to buy clippers these days, I wouldn't go anywhere else, they have a quick responce if you have any problems. Dont even think about Osters, the motors still have brass bush bearings in the motors(old technology), that is why they get hot, and Oster don't intend to change their ways. The parts are expensive for Oster clippers, Wahl clipper parts are a ok price.

  7. I bought new clippers - they didnt really have detailed instructions LOL (well what I would have liked to have read). By reading the guide I figure oil blades before use, after 10 mins of use and let blade cool down and at the end of grooming - is this correct? Is there anything else I should be doing? If the blades are too oily will they not cut? My number 30 blade wouldnt cut again after I oiled it and let it cool earlier (it had been working fine before that). How much oil do I put on the blade? I have Wahl KM2 and am using a metal snap on comb with #10 blade on the body, a #30 on face, chest and feet and finishing the feet with a toe blade. Both dogs have survived my first attempt (and they dont look awful - which is a bonus LOL). My male wouldnt really let me do his face and my female isnt too good with her feet but I did the best I could. Hi Shells, go to this site for oiling info. http://clipperbladesharpening.webs.com/bladeclipperhints.htm Also a blade getting hot depends in the ambient temp of the day as well. Another thing to concider is, are your blades being sharpened with a hollow grind plate or a flat-bed plate, your sharpener can answer that question for you, a hollow grind plate is the way to go(modern technology). The tension on your blades by using a hollow grind plate is lighter than a flat-bed plate(sharpening machine), in other words your clipper lasts longer, and works less harder(hot), and so do your blades last longer. Clipper blades only should get warm if tensioned correctly. If you want to get value out of your blades, always use a hollow grind machine for your sharpening, there are not to many hollow grind machines in Australia that are fully automatic(no human error), there are in fact a lot of copies, but they are not quite right, and the groomers pay dearly for the bad machines, clipper blades if sharpened on a hollow grind machine, and the blades are treated like a instrument, will actually get sharper, because they actually rub/bed-in more so(mesh), only dirt, and water wreck blades, but do follow the info on oiling your blades, no need to buy blade wash, use low-odor kero from Bunnings, and a dash of engine oil it is the same, and much cheaper, the blade wash you buy has a perfume in it though, you only use blade wash if you are cutting coats that have dirt in the coat, the kero cleans/flush's the dirt out of the blades, and the oil helps with stopping the blade from rusting, never ever let anyone boil your blades, if you do you may as well throw them away, blades are made from carbon steel, and you know what happens if you grind the door of your car, and leave it out in the rain, it rusts quickly, because one day you will not be able to sharpen your blades, and achieve a straight edge on the cutting edge, because of the rust in between the teeth(tynes). You can tell if your blade are being boiled, you will see they have black steel on them. Blades that are sharpened on a hollow grind machine only need to machine 0.0002th off a blade face each time they are sharpened, in other words, if you use a hollow grind sharpener you will get heaps & heaps of sharpens out of your blades, all you have to do when a blade is new is the measure the amount of steel on your back blade rail, divide it by 0.0002th and you will see you get heaps of sharpens, but if you use a sharpener that uses his/her hand, well, he/she may push on the front teeth or on the back rail, which is called operator error, and the blade owner pays for it. If you are a large petgroomer/vet always ask the new sharpener for a sample of their sharpening, the good ones will all ways be happy to. We wouldn't hessitate, nicestman77.
  8. Hi hotdoggy,if you decide to post your blades to me,why don't you get a VIP Card on DOL, and then you get a 10% discount as well. If you keep buying new blades instead of getting them resharpened, you are going to the wrong sharpener,a new blade should be abled to be resharpen at least 50 times before it is no good anymore. If I can help you with anything please allow me to. If you ever come down the coast for the day(Moruya Markets) i will do them while you wait,we serve very good coffee, our machine makes all the good noises.(CCCuuuuuSHhhhoo) Post to me is only a day each way,the very day they get to me is the very day they are back in the same day post,if you go to my site it shows you how to post cheaply,Regards,Nicestman77.
  9. that's not very nice or businesslike. Is that how you talk to your clients? Your 'nicest' label is slipping, Man That person is not one of my customers, nore will they be one in the future.I only like nice people around me. I treasure my customers that care about me. The whole thread was about vets as a general comment, about whether they(vets) were/are loading the drugs prices, myself and Poodle only stated a fact that we paid for with our experiences. stomie keep directing comments directly to my person of which you would not know anything about, sometimes some people need a jolt. Also the vet industry is a very difficult to deal with from the suppliers point of view, they act like they are gods from the customer angle. Try getting a goods and services for the vet industry, and when you have had 30 + years experience with them in general you will come to the same conclusion, I have. I only try to make things(cheaper) for them hoping they would pass it on to their customers(yourself) in general, but infact it is not so.They don't, they keep it to themselves. There are good vets, and bad vets, the good ones are out in the paddock delivering calves up to their knees in mud,the bad ones are siting in a warm room in a city bagging others using a keyboard that was made in China. It is the old story.
  10. Animal Clipper Blade Sharpening has not had a price rise since 1980, Other prices always go up, never down, I think it is time to change that. In fact our prices have been going down to help others in the worlds financial problems, I think it is time to think of ourselves now.
  11. I just did, thanks to one of them. A long time coming, since 1980.
  12. I go back a long way with heaps of vets, I have built more vets surgeries clients lists than you know, boy! have I ever. They all nearlly turn-out the same,I think it is in the blood.I dont mind not doing vets blades they send them with puss/gunk all over them,I am a sharpener not a cleaner, vets should be ashamed, please dont use my services, maybe you had better buy your own sharpening machine, or go where you pay more so you will be able to justify your services prices. Boom Boom. This is what I mean... if that's how you really feel about vets, then why do you want their business and encourage it with a discount? I suppose Stormie it is the same with Vets and clients. Many posts from vets/vet nurses complain about clients, but what do you do? Only work for the clients you like. Probably not a good business model. Most people complain about banks but we all use them. Of course. We have some difficult clients but I think 90% of them are great. I get that vets need nicestman's services and I'm sure he gives them the same service as his other clients, despite his opinion of vets. My question to him was based on what I have highlighted, and a genuine question if he doesn't like vets as much as he's said, then why does he go out of his way to offer them a discount? I'm not having a go, I'm asking a genuine question. It wasn't a genuine question, it was stupid question,I am the sort of guy I give everything to anyone, but now if it has vet on the end of the title things have changed, vets are so hard to deal with, very hard to get paid, and they want it cheap. I never change my mind. The free ride is over.

  16. Raz it's for your own good. I've had students like you; not only do they want you to spoon feed them but want you to chew it as well. It looks like I will get the bread next time Raz is cooking. Anyway Raz/Poodle I have to go to work, a truck load of work just turned up, I will stick my nose in later.Be kind to each other. Seeing you're so anti-vets (think you used the words pet hate?), why do you try to get their business? To make money perhaps? eta: and do you offer vets a discount?! What about your other clients? Surely that's not very fair to them!! So are you overcharging everyone else? Or undercharging vets? My question was to you, nicestman77. Regarding your business. Do you offer discounts on your clipper blade sharpening services to vet clinics? To whom was that comment directed at? Poodle? Nicestman77? Hi stormie I am glad you asked that question. The answer is, in fact I do offer vets a very good discount, because their blades are normally only #40's which are smaller than other type of blades, and don't use as much wear on the sharpening plate as larger type blade do, I adjust it appropiatly, and the more blades you send the cheaper is the price per blade, vets usually send at least 6>15 blades each time. You see I am the fly in the ointment jar in the sharpening industry, I was the second person in Australia that started clipper blade sharpening just behind Kramar back in the 1978, BBI Sydney came next, so did Charlie, the rest came after us many years later, my prices are the lowest around (1980 prices), other sharpeners charge anything from $10>$14 plus GST, $10 is a good price! my prices are below that, the reason my prices are lower is I sharpen with a fully automatic machine, and it is full proof, you only have to do it once, these days if you don't sharpen smarter it is time to get out of the industry, and they would dearlly love me to up my prices, so they can up their prices, but I won't, well, not yet. I make them look like they are ripping you guys off, well infact they are not, it takes them a lot longer to sharpen your blades, and when they do that, they are wearing your blades out prematurely, by keep trying to get it right, they only work on a 75% success rate, I only take 000.2th of a " of each surface, and the blade is crisp/hollow ground, and will last for ages 100%. The other sharpeners use machines I sold 20 years ago, and I won't use them again. If you want advise about a sharpener ask them if the have a fully automatic machine first. There are not to many in Australia. I also offer all my customers a similar same deal if they join my website, if they wish, that allows me the privilege to be able to send them a newsletter each month legally, and I pay for the privilege to do so. Thank you for your kindness. Colin is well know in the industry and was a competitor of mine a few years ago. Although we have not met, Colin and his wife Jenny have a reputation for doing charitable work, and to this I commend them. I have heard stories of him sharpening blades and repairing clippers for needy customers at no charge. He's not rich from what he says, but I gather it is a life style he enjoys. I fact my wife got a OAM for her effort.1996. Poodle, we should have a 400% price rise on our sharpening for vets then watch them squeal.

  21. Or Two Chai as someone on here once wrote. You're good value, Man. Poodie back to my question - what brand of eye ointment? I want to see if my vet has as high a mark up. I think all the vets on this thread are not guity of over charging, they are at home on their computers, it's the ones who are NOT on this thread that are on the Gold Coast/Hayman Island are resonsible for the over charging. It's obvious.
  22. Two-shay,If thats is how you spell it ??????
  23. You didnt turn up to pay for it so we ate our profit. Twas good. I didn't think you would let profit come between us
  24. Good on them. They're running a business, not a charity. I'll just keep repeating this phrase. I'm seriously not understanding why some of you have a problem with good business practices. How'd the bread turn=out,I got the jam.
