  1. I'll give the lime a bit more time. We've had a ton of rain in the past week though, should I sprinkle some more? I am getting another 1L bottle of permoxin and I'm going to mix it into a weak strength and throw it into the carpet cleaner.
  2. Thanks guys, will try some internal methods. I can't spray an insecticide (I just don't like using insecticides indiscriminately) outside but did sprinkle lime around.
  3. I've limed outside. I've used frontline plus, advantage (I think its called) and permoxin. The permoxin worked on Axle when he was here but the other two didn't. I've had to spray Giz EVERYDAY for the past 3 days with permoxin, fully coat him in it. I can't keep doing him everyday. Anyone have any other ideas for what might work?
  4. Giz will even bury chicken frames. I might try the hot water trick.
  5. Yep all bones, chicken frames, lamb shanks, chicken necks. I am sure he is hungry as if I feed him normal food after he has buried it then he gulps that food down (sometimes, he is a really weird eater) yet ALWAYS buries a bone. I think I might have to lock him in the laundry to eat it or in a crate, if I let him eat it inside then he buries it in my pillow or under the sofa or some other stupid spot
  6. Giz has taken to burying his bones... Then digging them up a week later and I just saw maggots in one so threw it away! How do you guys tackle this issue? Feed the bones indoors?
  7. I'll be interested in anything going on in QLD in the future. Is there any lists I can go on to get alerted of future QLD stuff?
  8. WEIA, umm, no idea - http://www.widebay.tafe.qld.gov.au/courses...og_handler.html Maroochy council got back to me. Must be housed as a dangerous dog (I also must declare him as a dangerous dog). Requirements are: 1) The enclosure must not be built or situated in a way that requires a member of the public to go into the enclosure to gain access to the house. 2) The area enclosed must be at least ten square meters. 3) walls of enclosure must be 6ft. 4) firm and strong materials and child proof so kiddies can't get hands and feet into it. 5) must have a gate. My issue is that they said I must comply to ALL dangerous dog laws, one of which is a muzzle in public. If a patrol dog needs a muzzle then that defeats the purpose of having one so need to seek clarification on this.
  9. Hmmm. Perhaps the majority of these dogs have been abused though? It seems to me that quote from Beth Bradley is more about people letting their dogs get away with things because they have (or have not) been abused. I suspect this dog I am fostering was abused (wary of females, cowers if my belt is not on, runs and hides or cowers in the corner if I have any kind of rope - if I have misdiagnosed then feel free to let me know what it could be) but I certainly won't let it get away with poor behaviour. The thing is until I see a behaviourist I am NOT going to try and fix the things I outlined above. Without professional input I could make things worse, if that makes me a do-gooder then I am happy to be one
  10. You're brave Tony, last time I said this I was attacked.
  11. How about you build a better fence rather than subject your dog to such cruel conditions 24/7? Or an even better idea, if you can't adequately contain your dog you rehome her? You don't seem to care too much about her wellbeing? If you did you'd improve the fencing.
  12. Just thought I'd let everyone know that I am getting either the 30d or the 40d (but probably the 30d) now. Tess convinced me to ;) Won't be getting it for Christmas though, probably later next year.
  13. Yay! I am starting to understand. First Time Puppy Owner, it depends, different supps have different percentages of DHA and EPA, for example, the omega 3 supp from nz health from Hoki contains 250/150 in a 1000mg capsule and the recommended dose appears to be 180/120 so that's a bit more than recommended, where as the mussel ones if you use 2 capsules you get 180/120 which is the recommended dose. Given that using sustainable materials for me is a strong factor then I am more likely to go with the more expensive Green Lipped Mussels (well, I have yet to shop around for cheaper pricing.) You need to look at what percentage of the capsule/supplement is actually DHA or EPA. Now I need to find a good GLA supplement. So no adding oils to barf, I'll just leave them on the counter then.
  14. Green Lipped Mussel. Do a bit of research on it.
  15. I am having trouble understanding this. Is the DHA and the EPA the main things in fish oil that we want? Fish oil only has Omega 3 doesn't it, I've read we want some Omega 6 as well? What does DHA do and what does EPA do? Everything I find refers to what it does to the human body, is this the same for dogs? All I can find is it makes the coat shiny, which one makes the coat pretty? EPA or DHA? How much (in mg) of each is an ideal quantity to add to BARF? Will it evaporate or anything like that? How do I determine if a dog needs it? Can you administer too much? I create my own balls of 220g so would one capsule be sufficient per "ball" of BARF? The omega 3 mix from nz health store contains 25% DHA and 15% EPA, each is 1000mg so 250mg of DHA and 150mg of EPA. 300 of those capsules for $112 NZ (so around $100 AUS?) It comes from Hoki but I need to find out if Hoki is sustainable. The green lip mussel mix from the same store has 18%/12% (from memory, and DHA/EPA respectively) but each capsule is only 500mg so only contains 90mg of DHA and 60mg of EPA, 450 capsules for $135 (on sale now). Green Lipped is 100% sustainable so I know I am causing little environmental damage to the marine environment with this option. So how much is really required? From memory Peibe mentioned 180/120 as the standard measure but is that how much we should aim to supplement? My foster dogs coat is a bit dull, I know either EPA or DHA will help this but I want to know how much is needed and which one is needed.
  16. Tess, whatever. If its above my budget I can save - not really capped at anything other than I'm not getting one of those $6000 cameras Possum, yah, I won't go through them now. Reason I am pro canon is because thats what the PI guy told me to get - the instructor was talking to me and said get a Canon DSLR. Ripley, I don't understand the differences between the 350d and 400d. Do these differences equate to any real difference for a complete beginner?
  17. I assume we learn about the legal side of it in the course. Well, I'd bloody hope that we do! Our security instructor has a friend who owns a PI company that is always looking for people - they mainly handle insurance crap.
  18. To be honest, I have no idea. Will find out now though. I can't find any numbers like the one you gave buuuuuut. Green lipped mussel extract (pure) has 19% DHA and 15% EPA and 15% palmitic acid (nfi what that is.) Fish oil has 12% DHA and 18% EPA. So fish oil has more EPA but a lot less DHA? I don't really know much about this stuff But being a kiwi green lipped mussels are used a lot.
  19. I make mine myself. I'll be getting some PVC soon and cutting the tube in half so I can freeze it into rolls. Usually I make it and just freeze it in 220g balls.
  20. I was under the impression that green lip mussel extract is a better for joints than fish oils? Not many Australian vets would know much about the mussel extract though, it has a natural anti-inflammatory which helps arthritis.
  21. Wow. Okay, maybe scratch the underwater idea then I won't be able to afford that for a long time!
  22. Hey guys, I am looking at picking up a 400d, not a crazy photographer man but want a DSLR. What type of lens am I wanting just for general photos? In the future I'll be wanting a lens good for taking photos of people from a distance (I'll be doing a PI course and might pick up some odd work in PI every now and then)... Will the 400d cater to this? What kind of lens is suited to this. If you want to recommend a different Camera then it must have an underwater housing available for it as I also want to take some photos underwater! Is this a good kit? A good price? http://www.insanemobile.com/product.php?productid=2445 Any advice would be ace. Cheers, Michael.
  23. I know the 5 day course is crap But it is set to address the requirements for the dog handling licence so it'll be compulsory eventually anyway.
  24. Nah, I won't be like that. I won't take it out unless I trust it and the trainer says we're good enough I am trying to find out which companies around here help train the dogs and which companies actually require man-dog teams to undergo training. I don't want to be involved in a shitty company.
