  1. It takes my Cavaliers a bit longer than the big dogs. Probably 20 - to 30 minutes? Though Lacey can stretch hers out for nearly an hour sometimes
  2. That should be okay for them I used to put a bit of broccolli in my veggie mix.
  3. Yes it's Pookinuk I buy from too. I've been very happy with them
  4. Yes mine pretty much inhale their food - that may be the trick
  5. Oh dear did she have some around her mouth too in the hair? My girls have sardines regularly but once the smell goes after they finish all is well - not that I try for a kiss just after tea ;)
  6. Yes the main ingredient is listed first. I won't feed Innova for the reason you said. I've bought Artemis online and had it delivered from Victoria to NSW cheaper than buying Eagle Pack locally
  7. Yes the smallest one would be too small. I just took my tape measure and those dimensions match one of my crates. It is one of my smaller ones that would not give a big Cavalier much room to get comfy. None of mine are big so it's a handy size that I often use in the car but if you want to use the crate for extended periods of time once your dog is grown a slightly larger one may be better? No way would a boxer or border collie get in that crate
  8. Hi Maree, He found out the howl gets attention quickly so he's going to use it to his advantage You can try to extinguish the behaviour by totally ignoring him when he howls. The trouble is being that loud I guess there are times you can't ignore him? You could try something loud and sharp to distract and stop the behaviour and then ask him for something appropriate and reward for it. Such as .... He's in the other room and has started howling. Make a short sharp sound such as dropping a tin with coins in it (just an example). If it's loud enough to get through his howling he will probably stop momentarily and just as he is quiet you could call him to you and ask him to sit or something like that and reward. You do need to get the timing spot on. You could also use a water spray - a squirt in his face would stop most. Of course that is if he is near you. Asking in the training thread will probably get you lots of good ideas. I've never had a howling Cavalier
  9. Hi Kendall, Cavaliers are not supposed to have 'buggy' eyes but I've seen them too and it does take away from the gentle expression. Buying from a good breeder and parents with good eyes should get rid of that worry for you. The lozenge is just luck of the draw
  10. I find a pin brush good for getting through big coats and ears. I have a lovely Mason and Pearson natural bristle and nylon. I'd never have spent that on myself If you come across a comb with rotating teeth they are good for ears. The teeth are a little more spaced so you can use that and then a normal metal comb.
  11. Thanks and they can eat spaghetti without any stains! Gotta love wholecolours!
  12. Yes a photo would be a good idea. I was wondering about spagetti too My old blenheim girl was nice and white till the day she died and it had been a very long time since she'd been in the show ring. What conditions has he been kept in?
  13. No they are not a smelly dog My girls have a bath every two or three weeks if we are not showing and they sleep on my bed.
  14. That sounds rather unusual for a puppy. I wonder if she may have an infection? She's not weeing in her bed and then lying in it is she? Have a sniff of her bedding.
  15. Matthew talk to the breeder and make sure you keep the pup on the diet he's used to until he settles in with you. It's a big upheavel for a baby pup changing homes and they can easily get an upset tummy. After a week or so you can start to gradually change his food over.
  16. Matthew you'll probably get various answers to the best age to desex. Some people think it's better to wait until they are a bit older. I usually recommend 6 months old to puppy buyers. And the cost will vary a lot by the size of your dog and the vet. Just reread that and it sounds like the size of your vet matters I mean vets will vary with their prices.
  17. her papers say cavalier king charles Blenheim Well she is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Why did you think she is a cocker? Is your other dog a cocker or a Cavalier?
  18. When you look at the papers from the breeder what breed does it say? Cocker Spaniel or Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?
  19. No it is not normal for a pup to have blood in their stools after worming. Is it a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or a Cocker Spaniel you have?
  20. They sound a good price. Whereabouts are you located?
  21. I had a pup do that for a while. I don't know why but I didn't appreciate it! She also ate poo for a while but did grow out of it.
  22. I gave each of my girls a small whiting for tea tonight. Two of them ate them with no worries, another wouldn't touch hers until I ripped it apart a bit (that was gross - fish guts everywhere!) and then the youngest just did not want hers even after I mangled it a bit. She's previously eaten fresh sardines and white bait quite happily.

    Double Trouble

In your opinion! I'm sure with some breeds it is definitely not a good idea to have siblings together. I have sold two Cavalier pups together two or three times and it has worked very well. They are company for each other ;) I have one of the pairs here staying with me at the moment. They are three years old and I have them to stay quite regularly. They are very well balanced, happy, loved dogs. Never having owned a pug I have no idea if it's a good idea or not and I'm not going to comment.
  24. Get yourself a cheap rubber mitt from the junk shop. You can use it on the dog - they rather enjoy it and they are also great for getting the hair out of carpet. If you give her a good go over with it everyday that should cut down a bit on the hair all over the house.
