Awww how is he this morning?
-
You mean like this? My pups discovered the nasturtiums!
-
Where do you put the plug?
-
Sorry Elle you probably don't want to hear this but buying a pup from a pet shop is not a good idea at all
-
A friend bred a dual sired litter not long ago. She used two of her dogs so had natural matings. She got pups from both.

Where I used to work we had a gorgeous little Shih Tzu come in and I was amazed when she was taken upstairs to the vet for sedation. She was the sweetest little dog until anyone tried to groom her and then she was all teeth and rage !
-
She is having a vaccination in a week & a half or so - do you think the vet would show us then? I'm sure they will

Yes that nail on the side is the dew claw and yes you do need to cut it. If your pup eats dry food you can always stuff the kong with that to make her meal last a little longer. You can put just about anything in a kong

I wish, everyone we spoke to about cavs said "You have to watch they dont over eat becuase they just love their food" I want my cavalier to love food and look just a little fat :D I see so many Cavaliers looking more than just a little fat. I'd much rather a trim, taut and terrific one And they all need different amounts - even within the same breed. Three of my girls eat a small handful of dry and a couple of necks but another needs two biggish handfuls plus the necks and she is still lean.
-
If she is in good condition and has a good coat it sounds like she is getting everything she needs. I'd be inclined to just tough it out with her. You've had her vet checked so know all is okay. Just give her a few chicken necks and toss in a little dry and if she eats it, good. The trouble is the more you worry about it the chances are the problem will worsen.
-
What is her condition like? Chicken necks are good - she can have lots of them
-
Just an idea but could you get the vet to check her throat? I've known of a few young Cavaliers who were very poor eaters who turned out to have tonsilitis. Once they were treated they ate You could also try giving her Periactin before meals to stimulate her appetite. I guess you've probably tried all sorts of food? How old is she?
-
Thanks I did ask her if she'd kept the tick but she hadn't. I've asked her to look at them online so hopefully she will.

Okay I have had no experience with ticks so thought I'd come and ask some advice please! I've lived here (Penrith, Western Sydney) for about 30 years and never had a tick on a dog. My grass is short, no garden in the backyard and the dogs haven't been out this week. I was minding a dog for someone and she came here on Monday. She was picked up this morning and her owner has just rung to let me know she had a tick on her. She didn't take her to the vet - her daughter removed the tick - apparently her daughter's dog has had ticks a couple of times and she was sure it was a tick. Is it possible that the tick came with her on Monday? She said it was blackish and looked like a wart? Her daughter had to dig it out as it was embedded. Would that have been a paralysis tick? I did say that I thought paralysis ticks were lighter in colour and she said it may have been so not real clear on that.....

No I didn't! Isn't that lovely :p

That does seem very light for a pup that age. Definitely needs more than one meal a day. I just checked my last weights of the pups and Jesse weighed 1.5 at only 4 weeks old. He's a big boy though :p To be honest if that pups weight is correct I'd be rather concerned. Has she been vet checked recently?

Cavaliers are not elbow scored and PRA is not much of a problem in the breed. Cataracts are much more likely. Very few breeders hip score. If the parents were heart tested by a cardio she would have had paperwork to show you. There would also have been certificates for the eyes. Sorry but I doubt her parents have been tested. The best you can do for her is love her. -

All you need to do to list your pups to sell is to be a registered breeder and pay your money. There are lots of unethical breeders about, both on this site and many others. Yes it's good people going to registered breeders but there are breeders and there are breeders..... The only way to pick the good ones it to learn as much as you can about the breed and ask lots of questions. Unfortunately since Cavaliers are cute there are lots of breeders in it for the wrong reasons -
Oh how cute it he? Just a word of warning though that is a good idea not to have him on the lounge in case he jumps off. Fine if he's with you and you can stop him leaping of course!

So does this mean the message of finding a reputable breeder is not even getting through to DOL members? -
I hope she'll be okay. Horrid creatures are ticks
