Goodbye, Tango..

I just wanted to let everybody know that Tango had to be put to sleep last Tuesday. She woke up (last) Monday morning unable to walk (we thought she had slipped a disc or two - in which case, she would've had surgery). We took her for some tests, and the specialist said that she either had a tumor on her spinal cord (but wouldn't know without opening her up), or her discs were degenerating. He's 98% sure it was the latter. We could have still done surgery, but he said there was no possible way she'd ever be able to walk again. Anybody who knows Tango or has met her would agree with me when I say, that living in a wheel chair for the remainder of her life would not have been at all fair and would most definitely not have been the right decision for her. She deserved better and would have been miserable in a wheel chair. Seeing her in such discomfort and confusion was awful. The most terrible thing I've ever been through. I haven't cried this much in forever - Tango meant the world to me.

I'm doing better today compared to the rest of the week, though I'm still angry/sad that this had to happen to Tango. She was such a good girl. It's hard to think that this time last Sunday was the last time I'd ever throw the ball for her again. Bed time is without a doubt the most difficult part of my day. People keep telling me that "she knew it was her time to go", and I shouldn't feel bad (though I understand they don't mean anything bad by it). She really didn't have any idea though. She looked terrified and confused, with a face that said "help me, I don't know what's happening".

Here are her last two pictures, before she got progressively worse:

You were always such a beautiful girl and my favourite DOL dog. It doesn't seem fair that you left your mum at such a young age.

I really feel for you Toller 08 and can understand some of what you're feeling. Most of us have had that "special" friend and when they go it's devastating.

Just remember that you gave her a fantastic life. I hope you start to heal soon. ;) :D Give your other dogs a hug from me too. :) ;) :mad

RIP Tango.

My sincere sympathies.

Having just lost a dog to gangrene in her feet I know exactly what you are going through. They are still bright and happy within themselves but they have to be able to walk – they have to have quality of life. Just be comforted by the fact that she is ok now. She is not suffering or frightened and Toller you did help her by doing the right thing. As hard as it is, you did it for her.

Cherish her memory

Was this also a photo of Tango?

If so, what a happy life she had!!!

I am glad you let her go when you did.

We should never measure quantity, just quality.

Know you have done the right thing. No more pain.

Sincere sympathies, R.I.P. Tango.

Thanks everyone. She really was a great girl, and it's even harder to deal with because it was very unexpected and she was only just over 4.

Laker, yes, that's another picture of her. She lived to run and play and just make the best out of everyday. She loved to have fun!

Toller 08,

Mate, a dog who has known that degree of happiness was indeed a happy dog.

You gave her a great life. To us it seems too short, to her it was a great life....a hoot.... a grand, fun-filled adventure........

just look at that face......

Well done for releasing her when you did, a smile like that should never be made sad or pained.

Im so sorry for your loss, its such a hard decision to make let alone for one so young. She was obviously a very happy and very loved member of the family and all though only slight comfort, take heart in the fact that you will meet her again at the bridge and until then she is in good company.

You have done well. You have put her need above yours. She is free of pain and discomfort. She had a wonderful life.

I congratulate you for loving your dog enough to let her go.
