Just curious but what brands and types do you all give your dogs?

I give both my girls Wagner Glucosamine Chondroitin with MSM Powder every night. I mix it into their food with a little water.

Just interested to hear

I also use this powder whenever I run out of Flexicose. It seems to work quite well.

Aside from that I have trialed Diesel on various human brands of glucosamine, joint guard & sashas blend but the above 2 seem to work best for his issues. :cheer:

I was discussing Glucosamine with my vet recently who said latest research shows that it does nothing. The trials were on people and there were no differences between those actually taking Gluc. and those given placebos.

I know people who swear by it though.

I started using Glucosime myself recently to see if it helps joint recovery from exercise - I had not thought about it as a supplement for the dog though.

Its tough to be totally sure a supplement is working, and a trial may not be definitive. Was the trial over a long enough period? Were doses high enough? How was the effectiveness measured? Are there other studies that oppose these findings?

From what I read there is a general consensus it does help. If only the dogs could speak to provide detailed feedback.

It helped my previous dog when she was young and had arthritis (got it at 10 months old). It worked wonders on her for a while.

Some people say they give tablet form what exactly is the difference other than the obvious.

A vet specialist told me once to forget the sasha blend etc and go down to local discount pharmacy and get the bulk tablets there and give (for my dog) 1/3 of the dose listed for human.

Said it was exactly the same thing at half the price of pet marketing products. Especially small animal.

Even see it with products we give the horses that are also suitable for dog... get the horse product it is cheaper.

I've been giving my 7 and a 1/2 year old pug Sasha's Blend for the last few months.

He developed a limp in his front leg and shows signs of tenderness in both elbows. Now I am pretty sure this has been caused by jumping off things such as the couch.

I am pretty sure it has made a difference but who really knows. Before I started giving it he would limp every time he got up. Now he will do so every once and a while. If only I could teach the little bugger that he has to use the step to get off the couch and not jump.
