Ok!

I just got Hank vacced and chipped.

And we got home and he had his dinner and no he is crying when he is moved.

And he is just sleeping. He isn't playing like usual.

He looks fine and has no specific sore spots.

I hae called out local 24hour vet.

They said its not normal but the fact he is eating and drinking is good.

Has this happened to anyone else???

Should I just take him to the vet???

This does happen now and again from my experience. They get sore and sick for a few days after a vacc. And the m/chip is a very thick needle. If you have concerns, go back straight away to the vet that did it. Only YOU know if there's something really wrong.

It has happened to me before with 3rd vacc for babies so i don't do it anymore. My two pups were very lethargic, off their food, depressed and sore. Hope your boy gets better soon and it's nothing serious.

I would just leave him for tonight and reassess in the morning. If nothing is swollen or physically abnormal, then it's probably as i mentioned above. I won't do a 3rd vacc now because of this, it's too much for them.

He will probably just be sleepy and sore for a couple of days. It's basically just a vaccine overload. Just for now offer him food and water so he doesn't have to get up. Water is the most important to keep him hydrated.

But as i said, if it seems more than this, then don't hesitate to take him back to your vet.

He has actually just started playing.

He is still sore but he is seeming much more himself.

It just really worried me that he seemed so not Hank.

But since he has perked up I feel a lot better.

He is still sore but a lot perkier.

What kind of dogs do you have?

I heard that sighthounds take this these abit harder than some other dogs...

Ahahaha, persephone, he looks like a sweetheart...

Hank has chilled out now, I think he may have been being a bit precious.

He is still sore, but he is asleep now, after a bit of a play on the couch.

He even started hassling Borris so I feel like he is much himself again.

Redarachnid, I'm in melb too.

Hopefully one day we can come and say hi.

My sister has a couple of aboukir afghans in sydney...

My boys loved them!

Thankyou everyone.

I got a bit hysterical, I have been lucky and this was my first major(or minor) problem

This creates a lot of affection for this board.

Ahahahaha

Thanks again.

Glad he is OK IggiePiggie ;)

Oscar actually handled his vacc really well but he was microchipped by his breeder so I don't know how he went there. He had his annual vaccs a couple of weeks ago but was fine except for a bit of local swelling.

Next time you go in for a vaccination, or anything really, ask your vet:

a) what kind of things you can expect to see as a normal reaction; and

b) what are the signs of an adverse reaction which will need treatment.

I'm really lucky in that my wonderful vet will tell me all these things without asking, but sometimes with routine stuff it just doesn't occur to them that they could save you a lot of stress just by telling you that puppy will be a bit sore and flat for the next day!
