Raw Eggs

I read, after doing some internet searching, that raw eggs can be a problem in diets as the whites bind to biotin (vit B). Is this really an issue?? I use BARF patties for about 50% of the diet and I'm sure they have raw eggs in them.

Any views?

I often give a raw egg as a supplement to a meal, maybe once a week. I am sure they are OK as long as it's not an everyday thing

Mine get a whole egg including shell every couple of days.To my way of thinking the whole egg is balanced,when you take part of it away(shell) you then unbalance it? Just my own theory

I thought it was only a problem when you didn't give the whole egg (eg yoke and white)...

My boys get an egg at least once a week.

Feeding egg white alone can cause issues if you do it a lot (a lot depending on the dog), white and yolk together is fine because the yolk has large amounts of biotin. Shell as well is even better.

Whole raw eggs are fed here at least twice a week if not more. Crush the shell up and add to a meal, or add to a milk meal. Either way a whole raw egg is great for your dog.

When i make a pav, i always give the yokes (6) to my dog - I only make one every 2 months or so - he loves it. We are in the process of switching to a raw meat diet and Im planning on including an egg or two every week

I put dozen or so raw eggs, including the shells, through the food processor with all the other veggies and fruit to make up the batches of the pugs BARF slops.

This is correct, and this is why you can safely feed cooked eggs, raw yolks only or raw entire eggs. Do not feed raw whites alone on going.

The yolk will counteract the biotin depleting problems that the raw white can cause.

And as others have said the shell is great also.

Egg yolk tho healthy, is quite fattening, so keep them to a limit if the dog has a weight issue.

Mine usually have 1-3 eggs per week each.
