Requirements For Dogs On Utes

Not in qld, the only requirements is not on laps or on a motorcycle tank.

Question: How should I carry my animal in my vehicle?

So long as the animal is not in your lap (or sitting on the petrol tank of your

motorcycle) and not affecting your control of the vehicle, there are no rules

prohibiting how you should carry your animal. It is advised however, that you

securely restrain your animal using either a restraint or house the animal in a suitable

cage or container.

From road rules qld transport Q&A

The harness sounds a great idea though.

:rofl: I'm imagining trying to go to the beach with the dogs all sitting on my motorbike's petrol tank..

Going around the roundabouts would be fun, and past the duckies!

I saw a guy on a motorcycle with a golden retriever riding in a side cart complete with doggles and a little helmet on! Looked so funny! But really good.

 I would Tottally do that! My aussie bitch wears doggles in the ute,

If I had a small dog i could possibly have a small sturdy motorbike bag attached to the 2nd seat and have her there, but i doubt it.

Did you get a photo! There's a lady around town who keeps her pug in her motoribke jacket. :)

My next pup is definitely getting taught to ride pillion with me!

I think it would be nigh on impossible to get the malinut to stay put, there is just too much shit he wants to chase, we wouldn't make it up the street lol :(

oops - edit to add: I really think as far as utes go you are better off with a crate - if you want them to be able to stick their heads in the breeze get a nice big wire one... I have seen a harnessed dog get ropes all tangled up causing the clip holding them to come undone, dog went out the back at 100kph, was very very lucky to get away with gravel rash and a lot of bruising!

Don't know the rules but there should be some.

I had the horrifying experience of driving down the very busy Main North Rd here in SA last Thursday. The scruffy white ute next to me in all the traffic had 2 Kelpies loose in the back. One of them was going ballistic. Barking & running from side to side like a lunatic, almost falling over the side. Heavy traffic.

So lunatic driving, yes I have your number plate, be thankful that the police station near there was shut when I pulled in to complain.

If there aren't any laws there should be
