Hello everyone

I have a bitch who is half way thru her 3rd season and the past few days she hs gone off her food. She has picked a bit but this morning just left her breakfast. She seems healthy otherwise but I will get a thermometer today to check her temp. I've never had a bitch go off her food when in season. Is this normal?

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Mine did this. Would eat things she really liked but not kibble. She started to eat again when the season finished. Approx 8 weeks later she is not eating again and is nesting. She isn't pregnant so is obviously having some sort of phantom pregnancy/hormone issue.

Hi...Thanks for responses.

I did take temp and it's normal and no funny discharge so I have a feeling she's being fussy and a bit hormonal. She is a Newfie and does feel the heat as it's been very hot here (not that my dogs would know as they hang out in the airconditioned house!) I'm keeping a close eye on her

Thank You and Merry Christmas

My meg is having her 3rd season, and everytime she has a phantom, but this one seems to be more normal than her usual hormonal explosion...Usually we dont even train while she's in season, as she just doesnt cope, or should i say i dont cope, but the one thing she does do is goes off her food around the end of the 3week cycle, but she bloats like nothing else, we have been to the vet before just in case, and he says its all good, its just my special needs girl:-)

My is girl is just ending her 3rd week so its funny that you mention that. Mind you, she had no trouble having 2 chicken sausages this morning!! I think she's feeling hormonal and hot. I've just stopped pushing the morning feed for now and she eats her dinner.

That's what happens!!!

My last food trick is usually BBQ chicken - just to get something into them!!!

If she is eating sausages then she is still eating, just choosey.

Little meals several times a day may work - I feed them whatever they will eat eg. healthy dog treats, sardines, BBQ chicken, raw chicken necks, whatever.... then gradually introduce the normal food back into their diet!

My girl is so fussy! And she will not eat big meals either. She loves cat kibble but only Eagle Pack! Will not touch the Black Hawk cat kibble. I think I will try a heap of smaller meals with her.

Her boobies are going down so hopefully she will start eating better soon. She certainly needs some weight on her. Coat, eyes and energy are all good though.
